So there is going to be a comic adaptation of the Thrawn book (which this video is based on). Meaning there will be actual images to showcase what is talked about in this video, and I won't have to resort to fanart/unrelated images of Thrawn. Once that comic is released, do you guys want me to remake this video and use the comic images instead?

I'm about 4 hours into the audio book. Thrawn killed pilots, killed stormtroopers, and terrified an entire Imperial deployment just to impress them. It's terrifying to think what he would do to someone he actually wanted to destroy.
@mill27127 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm surprised the commander even let him live, let alone take him to Coruscant in front of the emperor instead of a prison. I know it was a matter of survival (As far as the empire knows) but still... That should be the next video on Thrawn on this channel.
@tsarfox34627 жыл бұрын
Yeah that takes some suspension of disbelief. But The book does a decent job of explaining it. The Imperial commander recognized the talent of Thrawn and thought he could gain recognition by introducing a new, capable, alien species to the Emperor. Then Thrawn used his relationship with Anakin and knowledge of the unknown regions to secure a place in the empire. From there Thrawn used his immense talent and capabilities to rise through the imperial ranks.

Thrawn was perhaps the complete opposite of Vader. Vader punished subordinates (basically everyone except Palpatine and Tarkin) with death for the slightest mistakes. He was essentially a petty schoolyard bully. Thrawn also executed his subordinates, but only as a last resort for things like treason or utter failure due to incompetence. On the other hand he rewarded subordinates for success and even for creative thinking, even if the plan didn't work. Using the "all stick" approach doesn't motivate people to do the best because they want to. It terrifies them into conformity, resulting in many only doing what they feel the most comfortable with, stifling creative thinking and initiative.
@OsnosisBones6 жыл бұрын
Corristo89 Vader actually hated the upper echelon specifically because they had superiority complexes, took credit for their subordinates work, and often were born into their role or handed it through coercion. He was extreme with his punishment of then to the point if blatant murder (because he retains anakins temper and dislike of people using power they don't deserve only with his morality dulled due to the dark sides effect on him) but when it came to people legitimately putting in effort, such as the troopers, they treated one another with respect mist the time. Plus there's the whole being in constant agony thing, which I imagine makes it hard for him to calmly address problems.
@ckbs16 жыл бұрын
Vader only did that to the officers due to him empathizing with the troops much more. Probably from his hands on experience with troops during the clone wars and his disdain for their credit being given to the officers. He was well respected by troops in the empire
@tylerm73004 жыл бұрын
That's actually a poor analysis of Vader's behavior. He's extremely strict on officers who gain their positions on connections but respects those who work hard and diligently. Even if you made a slight mistake vader would first take into account how you gained your position.
@Evil0tto4 жыл бұрын
In addition, the "all stick" approach causes subordinates to keep bad news to themselves, fearing the wrath of their superior. Without a clear understanding of a situation the superior will often make poor decisions based on faulty information.
@sirdogs87662 жыл бұрын
I remember one time in the Thrawn Trilogy, I believe it was in Dark Force Rising, but it may have been in another, where Luke gets away from the Chimaera because he pulled a maneuver that wasn't in the Imperial training booklet. The operator for the tractor beam tried something to get Luke but failed. Thrawn ultimately promoted the operator and gave him the assignment to figure out a way to counter the maneuver because Thrawn saw that the operator had quick thinking and a creative mind and Thrawn could use that even though he failed.

Justin Bennett Incorrect. For one, Thrawn is not the type to hold personal grudges or to value revenge. For another, in the book, the former bully in question actually wound up being one of Thrawn's best pilots at the time, and Thrawn utilized him to carry out a crucial mission which resolved a conflict between two local warring parties. The pilot, on the other hand, did hold a grudge, and since he couldn't take it out on his commanding officer, he took it out on then-ensign Eli Vanto (who was soon promoted to Lieutenant Commander, also becoming that pilot's superior officer briefly before being reassigned).

Starscream91 because they know their targets. Thry look for the weak and vulnerable that would not have the courage to tell someone. Most bullies will target you mentally. The slowly destroy you imside but leave you looking perfectly fin on the outside. Plus, most wont even try to look. This leaves a constant satisfaction to the bully that is easily overlooked by others, and theost effective way to destroy a person's life.

Found the cartoon at the end most delightful; and I think that Thrawn's most enviable due to his self-control and his selflessness. It’s hilarious how Thrawn is the biggest allegory for “Bully a nerd in school and he’ll one day be your boss and bully you back.”
@memesouls8653 Жыл бұрын
Nah, Thrawn doesn’t bully back. He’s not petty like someone like Vader who kills anyone who wrongs him. As seen in the novel, Thrawn displays how he could care less about his personal feelings towards his bullies but rather cares more about how to mold them into better individuals/soldiers. He doesn’t seem bullying as and issue for himself, but rather for the empire because that kind of behavior displays a lack of discipline which could end up hurting the order of things. That’s why I love Thrawn, he doesn’t hold a grudge but instead looks at everything in a logical light.

Thrawn is one of the best Star Wars characters, hands down. I find myself rooting for him to win more often than not. 😛

If the spelling is correct he was the first black baseball player to play with whites, this is while segregation was still in effect in the south of the us. He faced plenty of bigotry because of this and was a very talented baseball, this was 50-60+ years ago. Look up the movie called 42. I would consider thrawn more similar to yoda except in tactics and strategy than force knowledge and lightsaber proficiency.
