What makes Liverpool such a good team? Brilliant individuals? Team spirit? Great fans and a great coach? Sure! But there’s something else: Throw-ins. In mid 2018, Liverpool still hadn’t won a trophy in three years under Jürgen Klopp. Their stats were generally impressive, but they were the third-worst team in the league at throw-ins. Then a little-known coach called Thomas Gronnemark arrived. So how did he use the most neglected set-piece in football to help Liverpool win last season's Champions League and maybe the Premier League in 2020?
Could Gronnemark help your team? Tell us in the comments...

It is refreshing to see the game from a different perspective: An ironic sundry element of the game which is discarded can produce a better effect, like a serve in tennis, giving one the advantage, realizing the ball is now in one's hands. He can create something from a stagnant situation from the stockpile of strategy and strength in his arms.

This is the good thing about modern English football, because they have so much money they are now hiring experts in every field to improve their teams and English players. England has got rid of the old generation of British coaches who were not intellectual and hated new ideas like Harry Redknapp and Sam Allydyce. Now British educated intellectual people are now moving into football due to money in the game and this is improving the tactics and advancements in English football. Just look at the 2018 World Cup. England was the most effective team during corners and the reason why the FA went to the NBA and NFL teams for research on how to move when the ball is dead. It was the first time in 70 years England was more tactically advanced than the other teams because the money had brought a shift from the old boys network that lead to uneducated former players where getting all the coaching jobs as a retirement plan and protectionism that went with that to where you have just to justify your role because we have experts from a round the world to take your job.

As a former volleyball player, all this always sounded so obvious... Needless to say I served several assists during my (short) amateur football carreer from the throw-ins. And people were looking at me as if I was an alien, while a football throw-in is one of the simplest warm-up exercises for normal volleyball players

Forget the name of the player, but the first time I saw a somersault throw in was by a Newcastle U16 player in the Milk Cup in, Northern Ireland, 1987-88.. I think... He did it for the senior team....

i played cricket, rugby and basketball growing up but football mainly and went on to coach. easiest thing in the world throw ins if you have a hand eye background, the pitch is massive, there are loads of people to throw to, the game stops, throws are more accurate than foot pass, I just couldnt understand why people would throw close to the line to someones head and hope for the best. i used to play sunday league and folks on sideline every week would say great throw in. I just thought it was the dumbest compliment in football, where/what else are u supposed to do?

i hate that noone ever moves or indicates anything at throw ins. one of the most uncomfortable situations in amateur football. and then everyone is like 'aaaah', as if they had done it better

Stoke were more dangerous when the ball was off the pitch and Delap could use his hands that‘s for sure! But not sure about him on the pitch for Liverpool.

Throw-ins are the least utilized aspect of football and I don't know why all managers don't stress it. I guess players since childhood are used to the ball going out of bounds as temporary respite time. However more than any moment of the game, the advantage to restart the game with throw-in on your own terms should be rehearsed as much as taking penalties or free kicks. It's the greatest waste of chance in the game and it offers more to winning than corners and free kicks in my opinion. The opportunity to throw in the ball provides the team a time to out-think, and outsmart your opponent by simply being alert with your teammates. It's the only moment in the game when a player CANNOT be offside !! If i were a manager, my first edict would be to tell my team that whomever is closest to the ball when it goes out, must throw it forward and do it quickly ( retrieve the ball if you can and throw it in less than 5 seconds). Conversely, any player closest to the opponent's goal must sprint away from his defender towards the goal the moment his teammate gets hold of the ball from the ball-boy. More goals should be scored from throw-ins and as fan, it baffles me that there aren't that many.

I agree with almost everything but you also can't be offside when in your own half.
