The only type of “love triangles” I like are the ones where one of the people are a villain and want to drag the object of their affection to their side. Like a somewhat Mario-Peach-Bowser situation.

Oh yes, that is my favorite flavor of love triangle! Especially because it's really the only love triangle that I think particularly... works? From a story telling perspective? Like it's arranged in this video that the love triangle tends to be "two people in love and the other guy". This is true in most cases though like everything it's a bit of a spectrum. Often it is "the couple+other guy" Sometimes you have a love triangle that can be ground down to "oh derpdederp I can't decide who I leik! Derp de derp!" An example of this is an episode of Archie's Weird Mysteries where he's actually called out on leading on both Betty and Veronica and he states that he just can't decide between the two as he likes them virtually equally. This is often kinda annoying. Then there's what I call the "Environmental Love triangle" which usually means "more context is needed to understand this triangle." This can also have "couple+thirdwheel" elements but also overlaps when the triangle is more complicated. For example when I ship Bowser/Peach/Mario I am usually leaning more toward Bowser/Peach+Mario where what makes it a triangle for Peach is that she would choose Bowser if everything was equal, but it's not and Bowser comes with far more negative baggage (both in personality, their political obligations to their kingdoms, their social political obligations, Bowsers past antics, their physical species differences, etc.) Compared to Mario (hero of the kingdom, friendly, non threatening, would be quickly accepted by the people, compatible physiology, etc.) Setting it up as the 1st choice Bowser with too many drawbacks and a comfortable 2nd choice in Mario in which it might not be passionate but it would be easier. Then there's the darker levels of just being dragged down by a villain scenarios :> which I also love... Sorry I got side tracked, Bowser/Peach is my otp and throwing Mario in sometimes when the narrative works for it is a fav :>

To be fair. Tigera spent most of Lion-O’s life tearing him down riding on his back, being the favored son his father wanted, and even tried to kill him! Now the one girl that is there that actually builds him up, and seems to care for him. And it turn out she was actually only interested in his jerk of a brother all along. I’d say Lion-O is allowed a fair amount of salt. Though you’d think that the long outstanding animosity between Lion-O and Tigra would be enough. But no, they had to turn it into a love triangle that seemingly defines Cheetara’s character.

I have always been on Lion-O’s side. He has faults but not like Tygra. Even if Tygra wasn’t gonna be king, he had his father’s favor, was stronger and better at everything than Lion-O and had Cheetara’s love. Tygra’s biggest flaw was that he took too much for granted. Lion-O, for a moment, was willing to accept Tygra and Cheetara’s relationship, but I think what pushed him over was that Cheetara didn’t believe in him or his faith in tech. That showed she wasn’t really his friend. From the ideas for the second season, I promise you, if Lion-O interacted with his future nephew for even 5 seconds, Tygra would get jealous and think his brother was trying to steal his son.

When it comes to a show that does Love Triangles right, the one that always comes to mind is Kim Possible. And that's mainly because that we didn't get a love triangle until the movie "Kim Possible So the Drama." Like for the first three seasons, Ron and Kim show romantic interests in several characters respectively yet what set it apart from so many other shows is that the series didn't focus on the relationship. It was pretty much always "Kim or Ron have a crush on the character, the show reminds the audience of this, they end up going on a date with said crush or get a kiss on the cheek from them, and then the love interest fades into the background with it being revealed that the romance didn't go anywhere." As a result, the show continuously tease Kim and Ron entering a relationship with Ron dealing with jealousy for the first time in the movie since unlike all the other guys Kim has dated, this is the first one Ron has ever felt threatened by due to how well he and Kim click (whereas Kim was actually more jealous whenever Ron was seemingly into someone or just spent time with someone more then her like when he hung out with Felix a lot). The beauty of the love triangle happening in the movie though was that it was temporary instead of being stretched out for an entire season + the love interest being an evil synthetic robot whom Draken used instead of it being an actual person. This all climax into Kim and Ron finally accepting their feelings for each other. Meanwhile in shows like Star vs or Miraculous Ladybug will have the main character date a side character for a long amount of time with the audience knowing that the relationship isn't going to last, so they're just looking at their watch wondering how long they stretch it out before they end it and just make the main pairing hook up. Those kind of love triangles are the worse since they're just wasting time and are always in the forefront whereas Kim and Ron respective romances were more in the background and thus didn't feel like wasting as much time.

The original show was pretty clever with Lion-O. Back in those days, the idea of placing a kid character in the lead/hero role was deemed laughable at best. So the writers made this loop-hole so they can actually write stories about a young hero and have organic "lesson of the day" moments.

I was just stating where the idea probably stuck with the writer. And since we don’t get much of a romance interaction we dodge the grooming issue too so I don’t see the issue unless people somehow think Finn as always 13 and Bubbline as a ship between two semi immorals that just have the mentality of a teenager and a mid 20s woman.

The thing I despise about this love triangle is that all the support that she'd given to Lion-O every single episode up to that point was completely thrown out the window as she immediately takes Tigre's side on everything afterward, contradicting all that she had done up to that point. It's really disrespectful to the audience that her only real identity was to encourage the hero to be better, but to abandon that for a surprise twist to increase drama.

Like when they were ambushed, and everyone thought Lion-O was killed? During the whole episode, the other (adults) second guessed every decision Lion-O made. Particularly when he chose the direct route up the mountain, rather than find a longer way up undercover. Even though he gave his reason for his decision; they had to reach the summit as quickly as possible. The others had even said as much. When the expected a confrontation finally happened, and (*surprise, surprise*) ' Mr. Perfect' gets knocked on his keister, Lion-O stands ready to fight. Only for Cheetara to say "Nope. My boo-boo kitty might get hurt. So forget you." On a separate, but still thought provoking note, after all the time belittling Lion-O, and second guessing him, Tygra was now the defacto leader... And he spent the *whole* time feeling *sorry* for himself. Guess it's easier being the questioner, than the questioned. Sorry, just had to vent.

Agreed it could have been saved if when Lion O came back he manned up and told Tygra off and put it out there he has never and still even after everything doesn’t look at him as leader. That’s fine but with everything his so called brother has put him through he is still king and he will do what must be done Tygra will always be the son of their father and mother but Lion O should have told him never again will you be my brother or my heir if I have to earn the right to be your king to you then you have to earn the right to be family to me. Lion O then to Cheetara should have said well how good you supported me for the kingdom and pretended to agree with my beliefs well you did your job to well. You were to be my Jaga but my father was able to trust him I can never trust you again as you manipulated not only my feelings but my very goals and beliefs you can’t be part of any of the decision making again and as it stands you aren’t even apart of the priesthood anymore. Having Lion O tell the 2 this after his own journey would have forced them both to actually think about what they’ve done and all would at the same time be on a journey of growth Lion O to become king, Tygra to become a brother, and Cheetara to become a trusted ally and councilor again.

This entire fighting over Chetara fueling their sibling feud could have been switched to fighting over a memento of their mother’s that is also ancient tech. It would add a bit more weight to the family dynamics that Lion-o doesn’t understand why his interests get shut down so often while his dad and brother just don’t want to be reminded of their pain, but never explain why and push the whole kingship angle, further isolating Lion-o. Just show that Chetara and Tigra are a thing at the beginning, with their relationship being the one thing Tigra’s willing to risk not living up to their father’s demanding expectations to pursue. While Chetara is only physically affectionate with children, which she considers Liono to be one alongside Kit and Kat. Lion-o might get a small crush with the whole only person to not outright reject his interests, but would want to see if he can maintain their friendship instead as true companionship is the one thing he never got in the palace. Lion-o and Tigra finally mending their relationship a little would thus be acknowledging that their fighting has always been a cover for talking about their feelings about their mother, one thing forbidden as long as the King was alive. Maybe even with the keepsake having a recording to the effect of “Take care of each other.” Instead of the bullshit not-a-viable-love-triangle. Also note: Studios need to stop with the bad female armor. Plenty of ways to denote characterization without resorting to cleavage showing exactly where to stab, boobplate, and leaving the guts exposed. Only Panthro can pull that off.

This is a much better idea than how the show went about it. My only problem would be the bit about Cheetara only showing affection for kids. She is clearly a physically affectionate person with those she loves both romantically and platonically. It's not her fault Liono saw her friendship as something more without considering her own opinion and feelings on the matter. His inexperience in matters of love and his wants/mistakes in love shouldn't be made her problem as she wasn't actually flirting or teasing him she was just being a friend and herself. It should have been a short three-episode arc where he's convinced himself that she's flirting because that's what he wants to read her actions as. Then he either does something like try to kiss her or does a big confession and she reacts confused and tells him no. Then we should have seen him hurt and learning to grow from a kid who thinks women are something to win, take or are owed to an adult who views love and women more maturely. Growing up romantically by making mistakes, not always getting what you want and learning to heal from a heartbreak is a very important lesson not often addressed. Especially in cartoons that force in love triangles then badly or lazily handle them. Usually, the solution is either the third wheel is a baddy so it doesn't matter if they are rejected in the end or they are immediately paired off/gifted a relationship either with someone else in the group or a sudden addition to the cast as a “don't worry here we fixed it. Happy endings for all!” Maybe could have had an episode where the others comfort him over his first heartbreak (without blame on Cheetara) and they make him realise he was just seeing what he wanted to see. Then have him look back by a montage realisation that he's actually seen her hug, hold hands and expressed physical affection and support with the rest of the group when they need it in past episodes. Realising all the times when he acted jealously or subconsciously ignored how she interacted with others as it didn't fit with what he wanted the situation to be and amitting that the relationship he saw happening was mostly in his head. It would then make any later romances stronger as we know he's grown and matured now.

@@LadyLocket I kind of hate the trope where characters try and force themselves into a relationship with someone who is neither available nor interested though. Especially when it would take up three episodes to do it. I’d rather it be a “b” or “c” plot in the background for longer, say 6-10 episodes and have it slowly build where Lion-o after having to constantly deal with making decisions in the moment for a bunch of episodes gets to take his time figuring out what he actually wants to do. Having a crush on someone doesn’t always have to escalate into attempting to pursue a full blown relationship with them. He knows he likes her, doesn’t like his brother. But the two of them love each other and you can’t love someone who you don’t know. So he tries to get to know her over the course of the show and gradually comes to the conclusion that his crush was rather shallow compared to the bond the two have with each other. Then he can realize that he and her can have a different type of relationship than she has with Tigra and that he doesn’t need his Tigra to lose for him to feel good about his relationship with someone. That’s kind of the core of it that ties back to the mother memento thing. The two of them need to realize it’s not a zero sum game. They can both walk away with something in the end, not having to fight in a winner takes all scenario. And with Cheetara only being physically affectionate with kids. I considered it a given she’d also be affectionate with her boyfriend Tigra, but that it’s a different type of affection with a different amount of depth. And that she likely wouldn’t show it very much at all to Panthro. Whereas the kids she would show more, possibly out of empathy for her own upbringing and the flaws she knows are there. Just an additional way to flesh out her dynamics with the whole of the group to prevent the problem of everyone only having one on one dynamics with the POV character. Also semi related side note. I want Tigra’s guard duties where he met cheetara to actually be a form of legitimizing him rather than a punishment. Having it done in an attempt to say, “We didn’t give our adopted son the captain of the royal guard position from nepotism, he earned that spot through hard work!” Thus a long game plan to make sure Tigra wouldn’t be pushed away from the family which ended up backfiring by feeding into his resentment of his little brother. And also a flashback of their mom taking no shit when some courtier makes a loaded comment about Tigra having stripes and not a mane and her just going “Ah, you’ve admired my son’s stripes have you? I should give you some as well so you will have something in common to speak of.” Before clawing them dude’s cheek, implying that the dude is both of a lower status and shouldn’t dare to speak to or about her first baby boy.

I mean, you come back from your spiritual travel, you met the little girl you knew and suddenly you fall in love with her despite you met her when she could have been your little sister and you never saw her as a romantic interest in the first place? I accept their idea about that, it makes it less concerning but it's still weird in my opinion and if they continued the show they should have discarded the idea of her being his future wife. They shouldn't have put this at all, they can keep the spiritual thing, but not the wife thing, at least I think they should have removed that.

However, upon arriving he finds out that the girl and his brother had decided to hook up in his absence because he had been gone for so long and they thought he wouldn't be coming back.

I have a mixed opinion with love triangles lately, they're entertaining unless it's not being taken that seriously or not affecting the plot, they're NOT when they're making the characters do out of character moments or being the whole trait of them, especially if the same predicting ending all over again. in other words, there are ones that are great, there are ones that just exist and ones that SHOULDN'T exist.

Not sure about the name of the trope, but could you do an episode roasting villain characters that joined the Big Bad to get revenge on the hero when, by all accounts, the big bad was the one who ruined their life? -Pumyra in this show, who died in the rubble and was resurrected by Mum-Ra, blames Liono because he couldn't hear her whisper-volume dying breath halfway across the city. -Red from Motor City, who hates the main guy, Mike Chilton, for bulldozing his home when he still worked for Kane... except that was the day Mike left Kaneco specifically then and there to help everyone in the building evacuate... and Red decided the guy who could bankroll him with gadgets to kill Mike was... Kane. -Hazel from RWBY, who joined Salem because his sister was apparently a huntsman who died, but considering the only things that kill huntsman are Grimm or members of Salems court that implies she was the cause, so while Ozpin probably didn't tell her exactly what she was getting into the literal queen of darkness is definitely the one at fault here. Thos are just the examples off the top of my head but like... it's a thing that weirdly pops up way more than it should? Like my best guess is the writers thought they could give the protag a villain closer to their age to act as a rival, while also trying to toss flaws in the heros backstory to make them more gray, but it always just results in morons with a hate-boner for the wrong guy.

Happens a lot in Tokyo Revengers too. Pen-yah blamed Mikey for not bailing Pah-chin out of prison, but Pah-chin stabbed the leader of Moebius and decided on his own to serve his sentence, Mikey was just respecting his wishes. But Pen-yah then joins the Moebius to get revenge on Mikey? When the Moebius had started the whole thing in the beginning by assaulting a friend of Pah-chin's? How does that make sense? You can maybe count Kazutora too, since he tries to kill Mikey because he blamed him for himself going to juvie. But it was entirely Kazutora's own decision to try to steal a bike for Mikey and accidentally kill someone in the process. Only difference is that the big bad wasn't to blame either.

The Hazel one actually somewhat gets addressed. Not by him directly saying that he was or wasn't aware of the fact that it was mainly Salem's fault his sister is death, but rather by him openly admitting to having tried to kill Salem. He openly admits in one scene that when he first met Salem, he beat her till he couldn't move his arms, it just didn't do anything. And since he was angry at both Salem and Ozpin, she was able to essentially convince him that killing Ozpin would help him feel better in some way, since he couldn't kill her.

As a young man who loved the original, I enjoyed this updated version (much of it, that is.) Completely loved the sibling rivalry aspect. It was almost Shakespearen. I appreciate how you fleshed out this not-love triangle. Lost my sh*t when Cheetara turned to Tigra. I was like "Damn, they shoehorned that in for the sake of cheap drama!" The show was mostly good. I am, however, ashamed to say I didn't watch the last few episodes. I was so disgusted when the writing did a 180, starting somewhere around the Ponzi episode. It's like someone said "the show is too mature. Bring it down to make it Y7 or something. " Too bad too. I liked most of it.

IMAGINE the amount of DRAMA that would ensue if she found out about his identity. Not to say Danny/Sam isn't great, it is, but it was always obvious even from the get go they were gonna end up together. They just work well together. BUT I don't knock the ship Valerie/Danny either. Honestly the fact that he was able to keep it hidden as long as he did was stunning his name is you know not that far removed from Fenton it's like the equivalent of Superman hiding his identity by putting on glasses and suddenly no one knows Clark is Superman even though they literally look alike, and date Lois Lane.

Sam is a good example of when the writer is too stubborn to accept the story should go one way, but are so desperate for a certain relationship to be endgame they fail the execution of the story and the relationship. They set up Danny with Valerie PERFECTLY and never actually gave that kind of relationship development to Sam, we’re just meant to support her because she was in his life first, but that just isn’t enough. I like Sam but when all they wrote her doing was being jealous of Danny’s interest in other females she deemed lesser than her (for not being an alternate, non-feminine “individual” like herself) it just didn’t work, especially when there was multi episode development between Danny and Valerie that showed to the audience WHY they were actually really good together. Sam never got any episodes like that. The narrative potential was also huge, as like you mentioned, Valerie didn’t just hate his ghost self, she had very justified reasons to! That’s perfect drama. I remember weird moments in the show where Sam outright said she only liked Danny for being DIFFERENT (aka having a ghost self) and thusly talking him out of the opportunity to give up his powers and live a normal life as he desired. It was not romantic in the slightest and unintentionally made her seem like an asshole who didn’t even like him for the real reasons a person should. Valerie made Danny grow significantly as a person, it was pretty unique for a show to bring to light what burden falls upon kids when their parents end up in financial ruin, with Danny learning to better his behaviour and realise people can have it worse than him and they deserve a helping hand. In totality it reminds me of the most recent Disney disaster Star vs The forces of Evil became they ruined their show by not following the character development and sticking with the relationships that worked for each character, instead they got obsessed with their One True Ship that they failed to write proper development for but just expected the audience to want to see happen because they were the “original” plan and desire of the author. So many shows fail this way, the writers have their story in their head, how it starts and end, but when their writing of the show has taken the story elsewhere, they don’t adapt, they don’t do what’s best for the story, they just cram in their pre-planned ending even tho it no longer works, because THEY want their ending preference, it’s typically referred to as “Selfish Writing” and is an easy way to absolutely destroy a show.

Okay that thing about Lion o and Wilykit is a pretty weird, it might of made a little more of sense in the original (since Lion O was originally her age but aged to adult thanks to a busted Stasis pod) but even then it would of been more then a bit weird. Unless a reenactment of what happened in the wildstorm comics (where Lino O is trapped in the book of omens for about a decade) was planned then it is really is a strange idea for the reboot's version of Lion O to end up with Wilykit.

You know what I hate about this "love triangle"? The whole time it was just Cheetara using Lion-o's boner to make him behave the way she wanted him to. She wants him to take a leadership role? Hold his hand. She wants him to use the sword? Kiss him on the cheek. Sure, she's doing what she was told to do, guide him on his journey to become a king, but she does so by being manipulative. And then she gets what she wants - she gets to date Lion-o's brother, despite openly flirting with another man in front of him several times to get what she wanted form him! Cheetara is never held accountable for her manipulative behavior, and yet she is the one responsible for further damaging Lion-o's heart and making him feel insecure once again, which leads him to believing the lies of another woman that was just manipulating him for her own agenda. I really like Wilikitty comforting and encouraging him at the end of the season. She didn't do it to get Lion-o to do what she wants, she did it because she was genuinely concerned about him. She doesn't flirt with him, she doesn't give false promises, she just says she will stay by his side and that he has friends he can count on. Wilikitty is the only female in Lion-o's life that treated him with respect and encouraged him to do better for his own sake.

I always thought Fruits Basket did a great job with the love triangle trope. For one thing, each character in the triangle is given time to show who they are as a character, their flaws, their fears, and what they want in life. So as Tohru spends time with both Kyo and Yuki you watch as their relationships improve and they turn into something more special. And you think "oh yeah they're both totally starting to fall for her" and you start expecting that the rest of the story will partly focus on the drama of who Tohru ends up with. But they don't and it's great. And probably the best part of the story is even though Tohru ends up with Kyo in the end, Yuki really stands out in the story in the later half. We get to see him using what he learned from Tohru in the first half of the manga/anime and make new relationships with people like he wanted to from the beginning. Even finding his love own interest who is an interesting foil to his "Perfect Prince" persona as she hates the total idea of perfection due to her own messed up past. But it's also great seeing how well Kyo and Tohru work as a couple. Tohru's selfless nature tends to be idolized by most people who know her, but I really like that Kyo encourages her to communicate what she wants. The show recognizes that being completely selfless all the time isn't a good thing, as it can lead you to getting taken advantage of or becoming trapped in a life you didn't want because you couldn't say no. Unlike Yuki, Kyo can recognize when she's upset and listens to her when she needs someone to talk to. Long story short, go watch or read Fruits Basket if you want to see how a tired trope like the love triangle can be done so refreshingly.

For all that FB did it right, they spelled out in the like the first two minutes that Tohru was going to end up with "the cat", since that's the one she liked and sympathized with and had the worst overall curse to break. In the original anime, thetrio is played platonically, like three friends. Tohru is enamored with Yuki because he is considered so perfect, but it wasn't treated like he was the end goal. Kyo also was played pretty straight in his relationship with Tohru. He felt bad when he did something crappy and tried to fix it.

Yes, Tohru had sympathy for the cat, but that could have just been foreshadowing her becoming his friend and helping him work through stuff emotionally. When she was telling the story about the hat, it was tricky to tell who the boy was at first, but I actually found that to be more viable ammunition in the shipping wars. I was really really hoping it was Kyo but, sadly for me, it wasn't so I was left unsure again. My main point is that both boys had moments with her that could point to them getting together and a few parts that suggested they wouldn't, particularly in the first season. Yuki giving her a ribbon, Kyo's rooftop chats, gardening at Yuki's secret base, Kyo's reaction to transforming on front of her, just *all* of the head resting on Tohru's shoulder. The evidence was up in the air! So much fule for everyone's fires. So, I will admit, the hat story trumped the cat story for me for a while and I thought Kyo might be left behind. But it came back around which I am very happy about 😁 I'm glad Yuki wasn't left broken hearted or something and he came to the conclusion he wasn't romantically attracted to her by himself. And it helps that Tohru was completely clueless to either boys' feelings for her until they'd sorted them out themselves. That was refreshing

@@jessicaable5095 You seen any romantic triangle aniem before and it was really, REALLY clear that her talking about the cat first thing in the first chapter/episode made it dead certain he was the only choice, no matter how well they made it seem like an even match later. Same way in Ranma thatUkyo never had a chance, even thoiugh she was arguably the better choice. Or how in Tenchi its never even plausibly anyone but Ryoko and she was the first one to meet Tenchi in every iteration of the franchise. Same with Orange Road or Maison Ikkoku or Love Hina or Nana... the one introduced first is ALWAYS the final choice. If there's a proper love triangle with any doubts they have to be introduced at the *exact* same time and that's a rare trick. Fruits Basket TRIES to sneak around that by introducing Yuki first and giving him most of the opening chapter... but there'd already been a lengthy discussion about the Cat before that, both in the anime and the manga. Narratively it was already too late... especially since Kyo is the first character we meet that showcases the transformation gimmick of the series and is the first character to be outright "special", even if the others follow quickly behind in showing their animal forms. But yes, Fruits Basket did a better job of balancing it than most, but still gave the game away at the very start. The rest was just drama to make a show out of.

So, here is the thing: After the episode with Tygras and Cheetaras backstory aired I actually started to speculate that the Cheetara in the present day is a different person from the one from the flashback. She behaved completly different, and the way she interacted with both Lion-O and Tygra made the impression to me she activly tried to worsen the rivalry between the brothers with the way she treated them each. Adding to this was this weird "cult" they also introduced in the same episode which young Cheetara joins, making me believe they were some form of secret society controlling the populace of third earth in the shadows with people like Cheetara acting as their agents. Using Tygras past (in this case his first crush) and the screwed family-dynamic of Lion-Os family would've made a lot of sense, and I was hoping we'd get a big twist at the end of season alluding to that (which would also then have allowed Cheetara to finally get spotlight episodes and a character of her own)

@Bla Bla I didn't want the comment too long and left out what happened, but maybe that was a wrong move on my part. While the fact that both of them had a crush on me did make them grow a bit more apart, they still hung out. I mean we were like 12 so it wasn't going to completely ruin it. While in my mind I had decided who I liked more, I didn't want to actually possibly ruin the friendship so I didn't say anything and tried to make them stay friends. They did stay friends when I moved. But then one of them just legitimately turned out to be an asshole. Sure the signs were there when we were younger like it had to be his way or nothing, but we were kids and with age got worse. I moved to another town and that's where I started dating a girl. When I saw him again, I sat next to him on the bus cuz I wanted to catch up with an old friend. But he kept asking me if I would date him and I said no, I was in a relationship, so he asked if I broke up with her, if I would then date him, and he wouldn't take no for an answer and asked me again and again until I said maybe. Like I said, it had to be his way. But that technically isn't relevant in a way, just that it didn't help. Then with the girl I dated, I had actually lived there before when I was 10 and I was friends with her twin and I remember that she would always be mean to me whenever I was with my friend. But due to being depressed at the time, my memory was foggy so when I started hanging out with my friend, since they were twins, she would tag along. She was much nicer to me so I assumed that I was just remembering wrong (heard from others later that she basically bullied me so I was in fact not remembering wrong). She got into art and we finally had something to talk about so I got to know her better. She then confessed to me that she had feelings for me and I didn't know how to say no. The relationship was toxic but I didn't notice it cuz it was small things over 2 years. For a 12 to 14 year old, she was really good at gaslighting. Eventually I noticed that no one in the friend group would include me in anything, but was sure I was imagining things. Then she brakes up with me on our 2 year anniversary but makes it unclear and says repeatedly that it was a brake. During that time I started to realise I wasn't happy in the relationship and wanted to brake up, but wanted to do it in person since doing it over text is the worst. She finds out from a friend and she, over text, says it was a brake up and it was "obvious" (yeah me asking multiple time if it was a brake up and you saying no, it wasn't, is super obvious you braking up with me). One of the last things she did to me before I cut her out of my life, was lying to one of my "friends" that I had talked behind her back. This was a person I had defended whenever anyone said she was annoying or kind of a bitch because she was my friend, or so I thought. Even the friend group would talk shit about her and I defended her. Sure I didn't like how she treated me, but she was my friend. Well she starts talking about a party she is planning in front of me like I don't exist, and when I asked about it, she said that of course I was invited and that she was planning her birthday that was months from now. With how much they isolated me, I suspected it was a lie but kept on hope. Turns out it was planned for Christmas vacation and then they proceeded to invite my best friend from a few towns over who they barely knew, and they thought I wouldn't find out!?!? That hurt a lot and after that I stopped hanging out with them. Since it was a small town, it was hard to make new friends who liked nerd stuff and it was also my last year there anyway. Luckily after that I have only been in healthy relationships. I learned to say no and not feel as guilty turning someone down. I finally made good friends. I have dated 2 people after her and I am still best friends with them. While that experience hurt, it was a good learning experience. I was a really naive kid. Also I learned to stay away from love triangles. It is not as fun as movies show it to be cuz at least one person gets hurt. In hindsight I could have explained better and when reading what I posted back then, yeah if I didn't know who this person was, I would also maybe suspect they were the problem. It's like they say, if everyone around you seems like an asshole, maybe you are the asshole (not always true, but often is). In this it definitely sounds like everyone around me were awful, but it wasn't. There were really good people around, but I didn't spend as much time with them as I should have and was around the wrong crowd.

The 2011 characters feel completely detached and the love triangle takes center stage. The Original Series was a quirky baddie of the week series but the characters felt like a close knit family and you could group any two together and see a bond of some sort, in the 2011 they thought adding gritty backstories was enough to sustain the audience.

I always got the feeling that cheetara was playing the both of them. Flirting and being sympathetic with lion-o to get him to continue on with the journey or to make him into the leader But also flirting and playing with tigra to keep him under control Even choosing tigra in the end seems like a calculated choice. At that point Lion-o was becoming more of a leader and was following through with learning the mysteries of the past, to save their world. Tigra on the other hand was having issues with his hatred and jealousy. I always got the feeling that if cheetara didn’t choose tigra, he would have just left. But that’s just how I saw it.

My issue with love triangles is that they make everyone involved look bad. The two people fighting come off as incredibly selfish, insecure, and patronizing fighting over 1 person who they just need to get over and the person being fought over comes off as a narcistic egomaniac or a complete doormat who doesn't put their foot down on issues that they are in the center of.

If they're just friends and nothing more, Cheetara *SHOULDN'T* be acting like that towards Lion-O, especially when she didn't tell anyone she's already sort of taken. If Cheetara was acting like that ONLY towards Tygra, and without Lion-O present to witness any of that, that could work. But that's not what happened. Lion-O has valid reasons to believe he has a chance with Cheetara, it's not just an idea in his head.

I never got the impression Cheetara wanted Lion-o in this series, I always though she was just encouraging the rightful ruler as per her orders, and just did it in a suggestive way, that was easy to do to a young man, (who clearly follows sterotypes instead of life experience he doesn't have) manipulative, but not necessarily bad, especially when you face the end of your culture/species! The fact they DID get past it, really made that seem right, and let the show grow, like ya said. It's been 10 years, so I'll chalk it up to head cannon at this point. (The Wilykit reveal hurts, cant save that one unless we see the characters grow together during 20 years of in universe story.... which is laughably not gonna happen, ever, in a toy franchise.

To be honest I clicked on this video because very few people actually talk about it from a breakdown perspective. And I actually loved the series, while yes it was flawed but I think it was trying to provide an "Anime" like Dramatization with the limited selection of characters. It's a Show yes, and it tends to feel quite boxed in when things got personal even with the lore and flashbacks. It just didn't feel that it needed to add tension between Lion-O and Tygra over Cheetara. As far as I remember that yes in the original Lion-O was a bit more Daring , Brash and at times would take on situations without the help of his friends. Where as Tygra would analyze and assess the situation, but would even go against others judgment and would do his own thing. Lion-O and Tygra are similar in personality. Though what makes them different is the path they started that eventually lead to this ego driven contest. But what I didn't like about the 2011 Thundercat's is how they magnified the characters concepts and personality and took certain things from the original out of context. By the end of each episode in the original everyone got along and it ended with a lesson to be learned. Where as the 2011 does that but throughout each episode the negativity outweighs the positivity and that any morals learned in the 2011 version just feels like an after thought and unnatural.

I will also take the time to say THANK YOU for bringing this up!. I love the 2011 thundercats show. While feel the show was all but sabotaged internally from various sources, I always did feel that after episode....13? Where they pulled the big love triangle switch, that the show steadily declined and I couldn't help but feel it's catalyst was this LIE that they gave to you about Lion O and Cheetara (In all transparency I was rooting for them, I was rooting for them since the 80's since they were SUPPOED to get together in the OG cartoon but the series ended before that could be resolved.) I also feel that way about Netflix's voltron, around the last season where they just said "F it, Lance is the love interest with Allura because we have NOTHING FOR LANCE TO DO".

Based on some of the murmurs I've come across on how they were planning on ending the series, I can see how they could have jumped the age gap between Lion-o and Wilykit. Supposedly Lion-o was going to get trapped in the book of omens for a long time. While he was trapped, Tigra was going to become king in his absence and eventually die. If Lion-o was suspended in time everyone would have aged without him, including the Kit and Kat. There's the potential to write a new dynamic there, as effectively everyone he knew would be new people just with some shared memories, but trying to hint at that before that would be incredibly distasteful.

I think that refusing to hint at their relationship before the timeskip would feel cheap and unrewarding, which is why there were apparently 2 timeskips planned if I recall correctly. One at the beginning which just shows the characters have grown up a bit since the first season and the second being plot related (book of omens). The first one would apparently see Lion-O in his mid 20s and Wilykit in her teens (where they could potentially hint their feelings) while after the second timeskip we would see Lion-O in his 30s and Wilykit in her late teens or early 20s, at which point they would finally reveal their feelings for each other and become romantically involved.

I feel like the should have just aged him down to 16, which would have still been character appropriate for his actions. Then boost the twins up to 14, who became street kids at age 12, thus have been doing that for a while but still have a childish mindset. Their following Lion-o would actually have a good reason; they’re now old enough to understand that what they were doing wouldn’t be sustainable but still too young to be willing to go home and own up to their mistakes so choose to follow glory. Have Lion-o admire a functional sibling relationship, and the two of them begin to see him as an ideal hero they can follow. Then there could have been a great exchange of Lion-o letting go of his feels for Cheetara and saying something to the effect of: “I mean your five years older than me. Getting told I’m like a brother hurt, but I get it. I couldn’t imagine Kit as anything other than a sister, and she’s only two years younger than me!” Followed by Kit having a pained expression and quickly hiding it with a smile. Thus showing how hypocritical patronizing that last line out of his mouth really is. As is, for the entire season produced she’s written as a child, and even given another season of the same length that’s a lasting impression to leave on an audience. The difference between their life stages would always be off kilter. It’s be far too hard to suddenly get a time skip where they’re both on the same page priorities wise by the midway point of their arcs. Especially since the audience wouldn’t have access to see that development.

@@alyssafitzgerald83 Lion-O is 16. Proven by the fact that when Grune started training him, he was about 10 or 11. Grune left the kingdom and didn't return until years later, at the the series start. They didn't, or probably couldn't age up the Wily twins because it the show still emulation the 80s show, where they were young kids there. I can understand it sounds off-putting. But it can't be understated that show itself is not about shipping/romance. It's about Lion-o's development as a person and future king. After he failures with Cheetra and Pumra, doesn't instantly turns eyes to Kit. For the following season, Lion-O abandons the juvenile ideas finding a girlfriend and focus on protecting his people, and all the other Thundercats, including Wilykit, go off to live their own lives and/or try to protect the world in their own ways. By the time Lion-O, and by proxy the audience, reunite with WilyKit, she would be different person. She would not be a child, but as her own person, no unlike Cheetra. And again, at this point in Lion-O's life, he would of grown past viewing Kit(or women in general) as a prize or life's goal. He would care more about ending the wars, and would only take a bride after defeating Mumm-ra. And this is not me trying to rationalize things. I'm quoting what was said in the whole interview, whole story. No a sound clip in order to start a flame war.

I had no Idea about the thing with Liono and Kit, i did some research, and apparently what was supposed to happen was that Liono was going to be in a mystical thing for 10yrs putting Kit in her early 20s (physically older than him), and then they would start with the romantic development, i guess they could pull that off they gradually changed his perspective on her before startling the romance stuff, also the consensus on their age gap seems to be arond 4-6yrs which isn't that bad even without age freezing shenanigans

There was quite a bit of reasoning behind the love triangle there... and while there were numerous aspects that were part of a domino effect for later parts of the story, the main reason it was to set up who they really intended to hook Lion-O up with.

I loved this show, but at the same time it pissed me off for several reasons: 1: The MAGNIFICENT LOVE TRIANGLE (*screams in horror*) I can start with Tygra and Cheetara. WORST romance ever written. TWILIGHT did it better… TWILIGHT. This topic is actually so long I could divide it down to 3 or 4 different subtopics, not falling short of this monstrosity. I loved Tygra and Cheetara back at the comics… but I couldn’t let this slide A. The reason why Cheetara chooses Tygra is absurd, to say the least. Just because of a flower, she chose the love of her life (with whom she only had contact for a total of 5 minutes at best, just to never speak with him ever again until the fall of Thundera)?!?! “Oh, but it was the Astrid Day flower, it gave the emotional support Cheetara needed”. How does anyone know if Tygra knew what that flower meant? If he REALLY loved her, why didn’t he come back to give her food and check on her? Why didn’t he go talk to Jaga or his father so they would accept her? No, he killed off what was possibly one of the last few exemplars of a biological rarity of fauna to give it to his crush (any thunderian botanist must have screamed in their graves at that moment), and then disappear completely from her life, even though they pretty much were supposed to have seen each other regularly since he was a prince, hence protected daily by the clerics. Yet they only first contacted each other several years later around the time Thundera was destroyed. How the hell could Cheetara see that as “love” is beyond my logical reasoning. B. Cheetara being deceptive and treacherous: If you already had someone you loved, why straight up lie and flirt with YOUR KING??? I understand that was to protect him and watch him close, and also it serves the “plot”. But then she not only gives him false leads about her true feelings, but also fails miserably in her job as a cleric when Lion-O was in danger in episode 13. When she had to chose between saving the life of her childhood crush (who tried to kill his own brother and king twice at that point by the way) or her KING, who also carries THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON ON THE WORLD, the only one capable of SAVING YOUR WHOLE DAMN SPECIES… POSSIBLY THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD… and also the one she was SUPPOSED TO GUARD WITH HER LIFE because that was the JOB OF HER DREAMS…whose life did she chose? The CRUSH obviously. And to make things worse, she acts as nothing had happened! She risked his life and lied to him after “unintentionally” playing with his feelings. Jaga would be so proud of her… C. Tygra was a BAD boyfriend: So… Tygra. The guy has this beautiful, strong and kind (dumb) woman… who literally tried to sacrifice her own life for him TWICE (in the Sword of Plun-Dar episode too), demonstrating that she can’t live without him (God have mercy of him)… and in the FIRST CHANCE he has… he decides to LEAVE HER to live with a bunch of CAVEMEN he BARELY KNOWS in the middle of a FREEZING HELL??? After EVERYTHING the chick’s done for him??? Like, dude, what the hell is your problem?! Dan Norton came out and said they wanted to tell this amazing “morality tale with lessons”, huh? Well, all i learned here is: “the jerk who isn’t grateful for absolutely nothing gets the chick”. I really hope they would have addressed and fixed most this in the second season. And definitely not pairing Lion-O with. Cheetara, I don’t like this idea. Anyway, Cheetara gives no reasons to love Tygra except the flower, she only called him out ONCE in the entire show… as a character she doesn’t progress IN THE SLIGHTEST after episode 13. Cheetara was reduced to a carnal trophy in a blatant shallow written romance. Absolutely horrible. And Tygra only progresses a bit. In the episode Lion-O dies, where he learns it’s hard to be a leader, and when the Tiger clan dies “still not addressing my previous point though). That aside, nothing. And I’m not surprised he would continue to be the same jerk in season 2. AT LEAST we know they would be on bad terms, indicating something about their relationship might would have been addressed. But if I were the writer, I would have addressed ALL this issues in the second half of the second season (for drama and plot reasons). Still, everything about their relationship in this season was childish, superficial and futile. And an horrible message to both kids and adults who have watched the show. They should better have stayed single until season two (where the show would have gotten a bit more adult) 2- Pumyra: now THIS comes close to the first problem. Pumyra the traitor… She meets Lion-O. Lion-O tries to save her, and both save each other. They start getting closer and closer… really great. I was really enjoying their relationship. WAY better than TygraXCheetara. Until… she betrays the Thundercats because she hates Lion-O. Now, let’s imagine this. Yer an American soldier fighting in Washington, trying to protect the President after an attack to the White House by North Korean assassins. You are hurt in combat, you are almost dead. In your last breaths, you see mr.president flying away in a helicopter. You try to ask for help, but none can listen to you and you die. Well. North Korean scientists bring you back to life. What you gonna do? You gonna KILL the president, who you were supposed to protect, while aiding the SAME PEOPLE WHO KILLED YOU!!! Aren’t you a genius??? Yes, props to PUMYRA FOR THIS GREAT IDEA! The smartest cat alive everyone!!! Seriously, WHAT THE FU**?! Even Ben 10 has better plot than this (and Ben 10 is actually awesome). Hell, I bet even Spy kids had a better writing than this. I honestly can’t blame Lion-O for hooking up with adult Wilykit in season 2 because, apparently, every other woman in this show have lost their damn brains. I mean, after the traumatic death experience, I could understand Pumyra’s view, what it could have done to her emotional state etc… but EVEN after EVERYTHING he’s done for her? He LITERALLY PROVED himself to her in previous episodes. Couldn’t she at least show that she had doubts in her heart??? And what really pissed me off about all of this is not even what happened in season 1, bu what was going to happen in season 2. Just… Just terrible… AT LEAST a redemption ark where she sacrifices herself doing the right thing, please??? Really, this show could have been WAY better. But at least it wasn’t that bad. It had good character design, good worldbuilding, and some episodes were really good. But jeez, who knows how the season 2 would have gone? It would be 2 time skips in 26 episodes. Rushed as hell. Let’s hope this show either doesn’t get revived, or, if it does, the writers actually grow some brain to write about romance and character development

I like that you straight up acknowledge Panthro as the Plot ^.^ Also I can't say I saw the reboot, but in the original series Liono went from being 12 to 20 cause of a suspension capsule malfuntion and they never acted as though it was weird. Since they were only 3 years apart in the 1st season she was 12 he was 15. I'm guessing in the time skip she would be 17 and he'd still be 15 since being in the book of Omens stopped him from aging further.

For how exhausing this trope is I have to mention one love triangle that in my opinion was handled very well. It's from a manga called Gakuen Babysitters (which got an adaptation down the line but I'm only discussing the manga here). It introduces us to Kashima Ryuuichi - the central point of the love triangle - a student who has to take care of his little brother because their parents died in a plane crash. Then you've got two very different girls: Inomata Maria and Ushimaru Yuki. Maria is intelligent, strict and intense while Yuki is shy, nice and friendly. Both of them also developed a crush on Ryuu. The love triangle itself never actually went anywhere but there is a good reason for that. Because Ryuu has responsibilities of taking care of his brother and every other child of Minoromiya's babysitting club he has to prioritise that and getting education. He realized that he's too emotionally immature to be able to handle a romantic relationship in his situation. That and he's generally not interested in girls (don't yell at me that''s what he said). The most interesting part of the triangle is that the girls end up becoming closer to each other because of their shared crush. They always support each other and learn from one another. For one Inomata alwas helps Yuki putting herself out there and overcoming her fears while Yuki helps Inomata develop social skills. And as of now they much prefer each other's company than anything else. And in my opinion their relationship helped them become better characters who are not defined by their romantic interest in the male lead (who, dare I say it, has more going on with his male friend than with either of the girls). Love triangles as a whole are quite confusing and poorly done alongside never feeling like an actual triangle as it does insinuate all three have some sort of connection and their choices corrolate to consequences which can effect them all. One way I saw it is the two pursuers being foils, one does something that attracts the object of their affection, and often they are treated as an object, which negatively impacts the second pursuer but they may do the same, it makes them seem better and tears down the other which has the impact of them actively being apart of it. Still the triangle does not work in the slightest it feels more the one they're attracted to is backed into a corner, if anything I would like to see it never come to a romantic relationship between any of them, a sort of realisation of how poorly they were pursuing the person they are attracted to because it is horrid every time, or the one they're attracted to doesn't go for either, let them have actually agency and make a choice which doesn't hinge on choosing the lesser of two evils and doesn't have to pick up the slack and tell them how they messed up, they did now learn the lesson and realise this is a person not an object to be won Alongside this, on the Lion-o and Kit side of things, it is apparently a case of Lion-o might mentally be 12 himself though depends on what details are carried over from the original series to the 2011 version. In the original when the kingdom was destroyed Lion-o and the twins were sent to third earth in capsules meant to maintain their bodies at their age, all three were 12 when this occurred, the twins were the same but Lion-o for some reason aged, at least physically. It is still utter bull and does not excuse the fact it is wrong, the speculation is that Lion-o is about 16 or so himself which still bad, it really is just a horrid choice even if Lion-o is not an adult Kit being a child and growing up around him gives me a bad taste in my mouth cause it feels like the waiting til she is legal shit to make it seem alright on the surface

Never watched the show (just watched this video because I love this channel XD) One thing I kinda found disturbing is how the elephant? made this prophecy that the main character's brother will betray him by "stealing" his girl... Like.. What the hell? She is a person, she can make her own choices and if she loves another man, then the main character (I don't know his name) has to accept that. Why does the tiger betray his brother? Why is it focused on the two male characters as if she was some kind of object one can "steal". Like, doesn't she have a say in this matter? They never were a couple and she doesn't owe him anything. Sorry for my rambling XD Just something that made me angry (besides the terrible writing fot female characters, but that is just standard at this point..) Maybe I got it all wrong, because I never watched the show, so if someone can enlighten me, just do it XD

The main problem was the elephant was breaking the fourth wall and literally everyone in show and outside it thought she was interested only in Lion o and then revealed she wasn’t. The real problem came when it was revealed she was charged with guiding Lion o to becoming a king jaga and the previous king wanted so she pretended to agree with him and his beliefs only to after she got with his brother for his brothers sake reveal she never agreed with him on anything and their entire relationship( friendship or otherwise) was a lie. They did write her badly because she is a bad person honestly

But in Lion-O’s defence, _she was flirting with him!_ How exactly was he supposed to know she wasn’t into him until he saw her kissing his brother? Cheetarah is just a tease and Tygra is a special kind of asshole himself who resented Lion-O for basically being born. Okay now that wasn’t *all* his fault, that scene when his mother stopped calling him ‘her handsome little prince’ and just “darling” was so freaking sad, and the way Claudius told Tygra was basically “your mom died and you have a brother, _one day you will understand”_ ... Like WTF?! Also that prince bit irked me cos I swear I heard someone call him “Prince Tygra” in the show, sure he’d never be King but why couldn’t he have kept the title of Prince? Meh whatever Tygra’s hurts were Lion-O didn’t deserve his hate, but Tygra and the cheating Cheetah certainly deserve mine 😤😤😤

Tygra blamed Lion-L for things that were never his fault, him losing the throne, their mother dying, all things that happened before Lion-O was born (well the mom died during the birth but still). Cheetarah’s a tease and Tygra’s a tightwad, they deserve each other ... but why TF did anyone think it was a good idea to pair Lion-O with WilyKit?! Yeah-yeah “time-skip to match ages”, it’s still hella cringey!
