I love my timex! I decided to start over with watch collecting focusing on a well BALANCED entry level collection, under $200 watches, including a Seiko, a Citizen, a Timex, a Orient and 1 other covering multiple styles for different dress attire. I want to maintain sensible balanced purchases as I move up in levels of collecting. This Timex Marlin is classy and I love Vintage style. Nice video👍

@@theurbangentry may I also add I am a Vostok cult follower /admirerer/user of both the 17 j manual wind Kom. and 31 j Aphibian models.Love their pre 80s look/non quartz type mechanical workings,non risk of most aged vintage wristwatches,durability,uniqueness /super price/great one year warranty !! My problem with the Timex is the relatively high price in my American working class world.What I would love to see ( i know it is probably delusional ) is a type collaboration/merger of both Timex and Vostok ( as GM and Toyota did together in the late 80s - Y2K years with their Geo model cars), with some of their mechanical models/prototypes .Imagine what that would do to for the companies and admirerers/cult followers/users/collectors of both of them !!Just my 2 cents!!

I really like that they did it in 34mm. You can't really find men's watches of this size, it suits small wrists people like myself. And as a matter of fact, legendary Philippe Dufour watches are 34mm.

Exactly! It is nice that in " big watches era" timex made such classy and small timepiece. For example Orient Bambino looks realy great, but 40mm dress watch ? Meh. Its not dress watch any more. I realy apreciate new marlin's size. If timex will go back to mechanical watches it will be pretty great, i suppose.

Hi, TGV! About ten years ago I was given a Timex by my sister as a trip gift and maybe this was the watch that inspired me into start my watch collection. I have a feeling of gratitude with the brand for making beautiful and good quality watched at very reasonable prices. You know... Now that my old Timex has more little scratches from time of use I started to enjoy wearing it even more. It is now on it's third leather strap because the others were used till their total deterioration.

I think everyone complaining about the Seagull movement has to realize that in this price point, Seagull makes one of the only handwound movements small enough for this watch. This Swiss certainly don't have an equivalent movement in this price range and the Japanese probably don't either. Besides, Seagull can and does produce excellent movements, they just have a WIDE range from shit to tourbillons. It depends what the OEM manufacturer is willing to pay. Obviously the Seagull movements in some of the homage watches like Parnis will be of questionable quality, but thats because those OEMS asked for the cheaper ones for cost saving! The higher end Seagull movements are very nice. It depends what Timex paid for. Besides the Seagull is no doubt better than the original pin lever type movements that the Marlins came with.

@pianofry1138
@pianofry1138 2 жыл бұрын
@@vt4979 you most certainly can. It might be called a ladies watch but they make watches with automatics under 35mm. I'm wanting to get a Cocktail Presage but I don't want the 40mm or the 34mm ladies. If they made a 36-38mm I probably would have pulled the trigger.

I've been getting super into Timex lately. I have an early 70's Timex electric Dynabeat that has less than 30 seconds variance a day. I have the re-issue you did the video on here, and my favorite is my Timex Expedition T49799 Expedition Diver Chronograph. 200 meter WR, ISO shock resistant, blue wave pattern dial with bullseye pattern sub dial, both lume and Indiglo, a uni directional rotating Bezel with lume markers, and a cyclops date window on a stainless steel bracelet that isn't nearly as cheap feeling as I anticipated. All that for $119.99. Also, my wife has about 6 older hand wind Timex's ( including one in a necklace) we picked up on Ebay over the last year. Some of those are pretty cool too.

Really glad to see this! 34mm is only perceived to be "too small" due to the ever growing watch sizes in the last 15 years. It was good enough for the military! The next move by Timex should be mechanical versions of their current designs.

Once again, an amazing review! Your enthusiasm is contagious, and your sincere appreciation for classic designs is inspiring. Timex was my first watch and has a special place in my heart as well, but I do wish they also included a 40 mm option. I feel like that is the standard now, and a size than anyone can pull off successfully.

New to watch collecting and after buying everything with no rhyme or reason, I found out I'm not a real watch collector but a Timex collector. I just love the look of their watches and their vintage reissues from the Q and the Marlin, as they say in the watch world they tick all the boxes. Having said that, I'm not doing this for monetary return, so it's a pure fun hobby and most of my 10 of my 15 watches are all Timex and going forward will probably stick with Timex.

Since educating myself about watches and learning terms I am astounded at the value of some Timex watches. Looking at a timex watch I bought 10 years ago what a value. Day, date, indiglo, hackes silver with white face, nice metal link folding clasp and the battery lasts for years. I didn't pay over $25 for this WR50M. Amazing value and good looking for a work watch and I'm a construction worker!

I accept that you aren't a fan of the dial/numeral type on the reissue Marlin, but I love it. You also expressed hope that they'd add mechanical movements to other watches in their lineup. I recently picked up a MK1 Mechanical. The tiny ladies' ST6 movement fromSeagull is keeping great time (~7spd or 5spd if stored crown-up overnight) and the vintage-style 36mm size, acrylic crystal, and military dial give the watch a wonderful vintage vibe. The reliability of vintage movements have kept me away, but the warranty and extended production run of the Seagull ST6 from the 1970/80s help me feel a little better about spending $85 on the MK1.

Not being "horological" at all, but having owned and worn daily the plastic cased Timex military style watch with the OD nylon band in the '80s, I went looking for one a few years ago (got nostalgic I suppose) - only to find that everything had gone battery powered quartz. I did find a quartz Timex "Camper" that looked like that old watch, but it too is quartz. The fact that Timex is again producing a mechanical watch that you wind is very exciting - at least to me. I just KNOW I will be able to replace my old time piece soon. Hurry up, Timex. Please.

Great video like always. I agree with you about the lack of transparency being a negative. Not so long ago on the UGWG there was a watch everyone was saying they wanted, they would buy. I was honest and said the watch was a NO GO for me. It was that lack of transparency. I couldn’t even find what the case size was. They covered al the little tech gadget but never covered the parts that make it a watch. Keep up the good work. Have a Merry Christmas. I will be back in NYC in mid December myself visiting family.

So which should I buy Vintage or Reissue? I spoke to my watch repairman and he said don't get the vintage one because you can't source parts for it since they were intended to be throw away watches. However, I like the Vintage watch, I am just worried that this 60 year old watch will break down on me in 10-15 years or so and I won't be able to repair it. What a decision =(

Hi TGV Cool reissue. The fact that they’ve chosen that mid-60’s version in fact makes the new one seem older than your vintage piece😝 Regarding the issue of “numeral placement”: Like you I prefer 12-3-6-9, numbers all around, or no numbers at all. In ancient times there have been all kinds of alternatives, though. The numerals on the Timex can seem kind of weird, but one of my vintage Omegas have 1,2,4,5,7,8,10,11. May have been a method of staying original in a time, when the common everyday (-dressy) watches were quite uniform. Never mind, I like the watch all the same... I’ve even seen a vintage Fortis where the numerals and lack of numerals were mixed up in a totally non-logical way, like 12,1,5,7,10 or something like that. Keep up the good work👍

Really enjoyed your video. After watching this, I might pick one up myself. I currently have two of the vintage 60s pieces the ‘66 and my newly acquired ‘60. Both are really well done and for me, having a rather large wrist, it really gives a nostalgia of my fathers era. Being a 90s baby myself and I really adore the old pieces. I absolutely love Timex and the brand. Really iconic and yet affordable. The only thing that got me to stop pulling the trigger is the price point as well as the movement. Great content as always! Look forward to the next one!

They also did the Metropolitan and Scout series both of which are a huge bang for the buck. The Metro to me is the best mixture of a step counter and a time piece. The Scout Expedition is just the best for the money IMO. I like that with the Marlin, no matter what generation that I hand it down to, it will run when wound. Who knows how many generations will enjoy it?

Ahh the submariner of Timex! Always loved that dial on it, I was actually really surprised to see Timex make a mechanical, also ever since I got my first non quartz watch, my friend has been really interested, now he's getting a swatch! Recommended your channel to him

Another great vid TGV. I do hope that Timex continues the transformation that they have set upon. More mechanicals or maybe even an automatic. I was able to try one of these new Marlins on a few weeks ago and it looked so small on my 7.25" wrist. Here's hoping they release a 40mm of it.

That's a very "Spooky" dial - almost holographic. Thanks for the heads up on this watch, I wasn't aware that they were producing this retro kind of watch - I love 60's style . . "Yeah Baby!"

Really enjoyed this video. I am writing this question on my wife’s account. Have you done (or could you make) a video on the acceptable tolerance level for watches in different price ranges, when it comes to keeping time. I realize a $1000 watch should keep better time than a $50 watch, but by how much? Thanks again. Cheers, Ray.

I am very glad Timex released this reissue. I have an original with the same numerical font as the reissue but marked 12, 3, 6, 9. I love it. Actually, it was my first watch when I was young....long time ago. Great review, and as always look forward to seeing your videos. Cheers.

I agree. I picked up a 1966 a couple of months ago and my Timex has the very same 12, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 numbering. Love the vintage but the new reissue is very nicely done.

Great video as always Tristano. I love everything about the new Marlin except for the plastic movement keeper. They should have put metal in there. Btw, I had a good laugh at min16 when you said ''To sum it up'' and I looked at the time and I saw there are another good 10 minutes to go, I said to my self ''Yap, that's TGV for sure'' :))))

I am (re) building my watch collection: two piece only collection; 1 sports watch, 1 dressy watch. Aesthetics are retro vintage inspired, preferably watches designs from the 1960s. My sports watch of choice for my collection is the Oris Divers Sixty-Five in 36mm blue dial on stainless steel bracelet. And in keeping with the theme and aesthetics, the dressy watch that I would choose for my two watch collection is this Timex Marlin 34mm. I don’t really like the stock leather strap of the Marlin, I plan to replace it with a tan vintage style leather strap as it would compliment the champagne sunburst dial. To allow me to have a variety on my Oris diver, I plan to get a tropic strap for it, keeping the vintage aesthetic

Is the movement in the reissue quality or did timex cheap out? Thanks

Woo! Lets see some more Timex mechanicals come out. I'm absolutely in love with some of the designs in their modern watches but I haven't bought any yet, because I just don't need another cheap quartz in the collection. A cheap mechanical though, I can get with that

A mechanical Timex camper reissue would be a dream. I have to show you my vintage timex collection. Timex is probably my favorite brand and I think they are perfect for watch fans my age

I bought a mechanical military Timex, the green plastic one, in 1980 or thereabouts. It lasted half an hour before it stopped. Took it back for a refund. Having said that I've just ordered the new Marlin! My other Timex is a New England ordinance style quartz. No loud ticking and second hand hits the indices spot on.

I am teetering between the marlin and the Navi ocean. Help. I don’t have anything like the marlin but 200 does seem a bit like price gouging to me. I am torn because growing up I had several timex and it would be great to support them again. Any advice?

Awesome into TVG, have become a huge fan of you channel I recent months. Also a huge Mad Men fan too! Based on your previous review I tracked down a Timex Navi Harbour and got it for 37 quid (yes!) on eBay. Thanks for the heads up! Best wishes.
