This is awesome I'm making mine rn I've begun sanding. If I'm gonna use steel wool do u know of what kind is best, and when and how to use it?
@make432

We usually save steel wool for the final sanding before painting just to clean everything up and usually stick to 000 or 0000 (the more zeroes the smoother the finish)

Nice work, step by step. i bought the stl and try to build the hammer too. all pieces of the handle are already printed. :) i have a question. there are 4 ornaments in each stl files (greebles for side cap 1/2). is it possible for an FDM printer to make the decorations available to print every plate flat on the build plate? currently i would print them with support and slope. the project is fun. im thinking to buy some star wars stuff. :)
@make432
@make432 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The FDM printer might have difficulty printing the detail, but you can give it a try! Good luck, let us know how it goes!
@mckennaodonnell7138
@mckennaodonnell7138 2 жыл бұрын
If you have the Meshmixer application you can split the ornaments up into separate files, which would then allow you to orient them to be flat on the built plate. I know it is extra work to do before printing, but for me it seems like a better pay off with better detail on the front and easier/quicker printing all together

Hey currently building the hammer, did you guys put a clear coat(anything specific) on the parts?
@make432
@make432 Жыл бұрын
We did not, but it would not be the worst choice to add a clear coat over everything if the prop is going to be handled - we recommend Rust-Oleum clear gloss amzn.to/3EJDKFq - we used it on our pokéball build and has help up so far!

One thing to mention the handle is a bit long to print on the Prusa MK3 its taller than the print space. I had to run it on its side and lay it flat. Not sure how that is going to come out but FYI to anyone who is getting this to print.

How did you get all the support material out of the cracks? I printed mine standing up with normal supports (probably should have used tree supports). And there is support material all through the cracks and it is not easy to get out of the cracks. Don't really want to do another 19 hour print.
@make432
