To keep the diesel from spilling all over the place on the rear filter, I use a large zip lock bag (allows you to see what is happening). Put it over the canister when unscrewing the drain / housing letting the diesel spill into the bag. Cut open large cardboard shipping boxes and lay them all over the ground under the truck to absorb small spills. Thanks for the video, it helped me save money.

Bro. I found your channel trying to learn to maintain my first diesel truck. In Dec of 2023, I bought a 2022 Cummins, its first major service was coming up, and the dealer ship was too lazy/greedy to take care of it. So, to keep them outta my pockets as much as possible when the diesel-water filter needed to be changed, I went to the old "KZbin university." Saw your video and saved several hundred bucks. Thanks, Bro.

Great video, my first time changing it myself on a 2021 RAM 2500. Thank you for taking the time to help us out. I do need to find some better ways to keep the diesel from spilling. I don’t like the mess it creates in my driveway. My only suggestion was on the rear filter replacement…push the new filter in place first (it will stay there) and then put the cap on and twist. It’s much harder to put both in at the same time as the filter needs to sit in there properly. Worked great for me 😎

You have no idea how much this helped me. I couldn’t tell from the video what you were doing with the upper filter as well as I could the lower filter. I took my new 2021 ram 2500 to the dealership in which I purchased a $6200 service/extended warranty on it yet when I brought it in for my first service at 7500 miles they wanted to charge me $420 plus tax I assume just to change the fuel filter. I am mediately pitched a fit and had them cancel the service policy where they were going to maintain my truck for seven years or 84 months. They knowingly miss lead or said they forgot to tell me that the fuel filter wasn’t covered so it would’ve been 420+ tax every service in addition to the $6200 plan that I had purchased and I thought that was crappy of them to do with me that way. Thanks for the video and the tips
@IManOPERATOR3 жыл бұрын
Ya I’m sure they “forgot” to mention that to you. It’s definitely way over priced for them to do a 15 min service with $160 ish in filters Happy you found the video to benefit you. Had about 3/8 of a turn so it was a slow drip. Ordered extra online. No on within 2 hours of Charlotte NC had the valve. Went to Gastonia Dodge they had the whole cap with the valve in it, $79.85. So, with the spare cap and the soon to arrive bleeder valves I should be okay. As soon as I saw the first video and how the whole canister flexed and twisted, and the effort put in to make it turn, I figured the I'd be replacing the whole thing. You never said what you used the tube for as well as I didn't see you use the tube for anything in the video ! I have a 2022 2500 and I am getting ready to do my first oil change so I am trying to learn the process as I have have always owned gasoline trucks and done my own oil changes and tune-ups so the whole Cummins diesel engine is all new to me !

Thanks for posting. How many miles do you have on your 2020? The 2020 has proven to be a good year. I ended up trading my 22 Cummins. Now I’m in a Duramax. It’s a good platform. But nothing beats the Cummins torque and exhaust brake.

Great video.. Just a note, get some dielectric grease and coat your O-rings, they will go in smooth and you will get a better "feel" for the torque.. The fuel makes the O-rings make that awful noise and cause them to shudder as you tighten, the grease will stop that... Also if you unplug any electrical plugs, put some of that grease in there too, it will prevent them from corroding and make them easier to unplug as well.. Nice truck BTW....

Definitely I appreciate that information I never really thought about that. Appreciate it

@gregcoughlin46152 жыл бұрын
I think dielectric grease will give you problems in your electrical components, it acts as an insulator, not a conductor. You could restrict the current if you're putting it in your plugs.
@gorgonbazil26522 жыл бұрын
@@gregcoughlin4615 No Sir, Used it on electrical components to protect them from salt water in the Navy for 20 years. It lubricates the connection and also prevents corrosion. There is a reason the Navy ships have lasted since WW1

Changed mine yesterday. Wasn’t difficult to do, but after priming the fuel filters 4x as recommended, the truck started then stalled after 5 seconds. Repeated this process three more times with the same result. Have no idea what the problem is, but I’m fucked if I can’t get it started tomorrow for work.

Did you buy oem filters? I’ve heard some people getting fake oem filters having this issue I would check your rear filter housing first then go back to the front. Long as you hear your pump working. Slight chance of a bad filter,
@azau793 жыл бұрын
Great Video - Where does in O-ring go in the on-engine filter housing? From the video it looked like you pushed it to the bottom of the housing. Thanks!
@IManOPERATOR3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate it, and yes what you saw or think is correct. The o-ring goes on the housing itself, took it off the same way I did for the rear filter housing

I change oil (and oil filter) every 5K miles and 15K on the fuel filters. The secondary filter (under the hood) is always clean. What are your thoughts on only changing the secondary filter at 30K ? I'm on my 4th diesel pickup and have always changed the oil at 5K and fuel filters when suggested by Dodge (Ram). Still have my 2004 2500 and 2019 2500. I'm 74 and have never had anyone else service my vehicles. Saved a wheelbarrow full of $ by doing my own. TT
@IManOPERATOR Жыл бұрын
So in my experience and opinion, you’re changing your oil way to soon and it’s probably not necessary. Don’t get me wrong if anything you’re not hurting anything but I’ve sent in an oil sample on a few rigs before at 10k change and they are well with in limits of the oils structure and lubricity. The fuel filters i get it, I changed them out just not to long ago, rear filter was quite dirty no doubt and the front as usual was still clean in my eyes. I feel it probably wouldn’t harm changing the secondary filter every other change but going 30k I’m not so sure. I will in good time change out the rest Filter with an adapter system for cat filters to have first and secondary filters under the bed even with that. If I remember right they recommended to change the front filter every other fuel filter change. And man no doubt on saving a load of money doing your own maintenance. And me personally I’ve always enjoyed this stuff.

On the rear fuel filter you forgot to mention to put the top on first then tighten the 8mm socket when putting it back on to prevent pressure

I do have a question for you. I was reading that when tightening, you should use a torque wrench and stop at 25lbs. I notice you didn't. can you give some info on this? I just swapped mine out today and tightened until the cup stopped turning. I didn't force it further, just stopped. so, thoughts?
@IManOPERATOR Жыл бұрын
I know it’s 30.5 NM to torque it down. You can do either or, if you’re scared to over tighten or if you think you won’t make it tight enough yes I definitely recommend using a torque wrench, I forgot to give any details in the video about that.

Great how to. Where do you buy your filters the dodge house it unreal high
@IManOPERATOR3 жыл бұрын
Bought them from Amazon, much cheaper then the dealer and also still mopar filters
@JefeDog8 ай бұрын
Great detail, but you skipped over one thing that I'm hoping to learn. When I did this last, the front filter was on very tight, and was so hard for me to break loose. I couldn't use an extension because of the other components directly above the filter. How did you get an extension on there? What length and any angled/swivel adapters?
@IManOPERATOR8 ай бұрын
So the first time around those are hard to break loose. Least mine was a bit too. I changed out my front filter cap to an aluminum one genos has it. Made it much easier to loosen and tread back on. I have learned a stubby socket with no extension also works with a 1/2 ratchet.
