Yes, wearing a slip under the slip skirt is essential for helping it drape in an elegant way. Otherwise, too often these skirts (because of inferior fabric) look like underwear. Not very chic, imo.

This may be controversial, but knowing that even a slim and fit woman like you is self-conscious of her lumps and bumps and worries about celulities is kind of a relief. I started wearing shapewear for that reason not so long ago and it is amazing how it helps to smooth the lines of my body. I also use slips and petticoats for that purpose (bonus: extra warmth). Our grandmothers knew what they were doing! We could argue that our bodies are pretty no matter their shape, but I still need that boost of confidence and as I grow older and more mature, I take more care of my feelings and think less about how I should feel. So thanks for you honesty and your tips!

Awe thank you! Yes, they certainly knew what they were doing🥹 A few years ago my grandmother called me in to help her with something as she was having a coughing attack induced by lung cancer…I flew into her her room and although she was in her 80’s and very sick she had matching underwear on, a gorgeous slip and rollers in her hair. I was humbled by her effort! In terms of lumps, I think it’s normal for many of us. I’ve never not has cellulite😂 but as I get older I also have loss of skin elasticity so I feel confident wearing tights or shapewear! 🤗 and you’re right, there is extra warmth!

I may be the only person who does not like slip skirts. They are very hard to style and to make look good on the best shaped bodies. They look ok if the wearer is super thin IMO.

@ZibaLennox after you discussed fit, I'm going to steam it and makes sure it's a perfect fit or I'll return it and look some more. Its a Rachel Zoe navy blue with a slit, a tiny bit of gathering, and a touch of black lace trim. The slit will reveal a break between my footwear and the skirt, but I can wear black stockings with black footwear to downplay that. I like it a lot and navy will work well for me. I love the tips on here about wearing a slip underneath too. You can feel a bit naked.

Ziba. Well done video. Slip skirts I feel are a bit challenging at times because when I wear one, I don't want to look sloppy. Shapewear is a definite must for me because I don't want my stomach to feel like its sticking out. Mix and match is like a given when it comes to women's fashion and it makes it more fun because you don't want to look boring. 5:11-5:20: Your two outfits are the epitome of posh. Love them! If I'm wearing a slip skirt, I would usually wear knee high boots because for me with my height, it's like a natural fashion wise. I was glad to catch this video while I was starting my work shift. I love my silk slip skirts, mostly from Quince, and they’re staples in my wardrobe. I think the bias cut of them is really flattering to our feminine shapes. And, I agree, they’re trans-seasonal, except for maybe the more extreme climates. In winter I always wear mine with tights, tall boots and a petticoat and am nice and warm. I have a maxi gold/brown beautiful slip skirt and I've had it for a month. Your video helped me see it in different ways, shopping my closet. I always wonder if I should buy a long slip to go under it? I will definitely wear shape wear as well. Any tips on dealing with static cling in the winter?

Great question! I hang up satins and silks on a metal hanger in bathroom while I shower to humid them. You can also hang them over an actual humidifier if you have one. There is anti-static spray but hairspray works too (just make sure it’s about a foot away so you don’t stain clothes). If you’re wearing tights or shapewear you can spray those or also rub a fabric sheet on them as well. Finally, leather soles carry less electric charge than rubber soles!

How do you deal with a silky slip skirt like that which starts to stick to your legs because of static cling?

There’s a few things you can do : on summer it helps to moisturize legs. In winter, hang up the skirt on a metal hanger while you shower to be steamed out. Adding moisture takes out the static, so steaming helps too. Metal recharges the garment and anti-static spray (or hairspray) sprayed a foot an away helps. I usually spray in front of me and walk through, finally avoid rubber sole shoes😊

I agree that this latest version of the classic bias-cut skirt often looks terrible because of low quality fabrics and no lining underneath. This silhouette looks better in a matte-finish fabric and properly lined (or worn with a slip along with shape-wear).
