Thanks for the very down to earth, facts of life video, which I think many need to hear. I think over here in the UK most people live on credit, spend or over spend their monthly income, and sometimes that can be a very high income, but they get used to living like that, and it becomes a lifestyle thing. Great to see you with another video, keep em coming 👍

Really appreciate that!!! Yeah, it seems the way most are living these days. I don't know how they ever hope to retire or to live a life free from debt. Sad...

Your experience mirrors my own. I helped my Dad in his HVAC business since I was a literal child, and then started work washing dishes at like 16 or 17. Never stopped working. I'm 36 and finally feeling financially stable and comfortable with some expendable income. I also met a couple of millionaires in my life and like you said, they all looked like just normal people without any flashy stuff. The people who flash all of these luxury goods are either broke or are worth multi millions. Spending money on luxury goods is the worst financial decision you could make. The only time you buy them is if you can feel zero pain if it got stolen or lost tomorrow. If you can't go out and buy it again tomorrow, don't buy it, because you don't NEED it.

Solid advice. A few years ago I had the watch fever, bought a few high end watches (cash), had my eye on a Patek next. Something told me to slow down, even though I could afford it. Now, with a major career change, I wouldn't even have a setting to wear a Patek anymore (can't really justify a Patek out fishing on the river lol). I'm quite happy with my two expensive watches, and a collection of inexpensive ones i enjoy as well. Point being, your own priorities and situation changes over time. Buying luxury items in a fever (even if you can afford it) may end up feeling like a silly decision down the line. Take your time. There will always be luxury items to buy later on if you still want to.

@@JANTHONYCHANNEL Great video and it hit home. Similar start to your story and hoping it concludes in a very similar way to yours with financial security/freedom. Been working since I was 8 and had a good work ethic instilled in me. Graduated recently within a pretty bad job market but did what we had to do... Similarly friends around my age fresh out of college, I already see making bad financial decisions. I've save the luxury watch purchase once I hit my financial goal this year, maybe even roll it over to purchasing it next year to mark the achievement. BTW how do you like the Eames chair?
@JANTHONYCHANNEL3 ай бұрын
@@iBeTonyy Sounds like you already have it figured out, that's great to hear! You'll be grateful later on when they are struggling, and you can sleep well at night knowing that you can handle whatever comes your way. As for the Eames Chair...good eye. I'm originally from Michigan where that chair and a lot of the mid-century movement originated so I love everything MCM. The chair is great other than I'm a bit too tall for it haha.

Glad you are back, because of videos like this. No nonsense and helpful advice. One thing I'd warn young people about is credit card debt. Credit cards are fantastic if you know how to use them. You can get points back for purchases, and that to me is the main benefit. I've never paid a dollar to credit card interest, but have gained thousands in cash back points. You just have to know how to use them. It's not an account to use as a loan, because the interest rates are INSANE! Never ever carry a balance on a credit card if you can help it.
@JANTHONYCHANNEL3 ай бұрын
Totally agree with you, same! I love the cash back and rewards but treat my card as cash and pay it off every month. Sound advice

Having the financial peace and security to buy a Rolex is what makes it so much better and enjoyable to be the owner of one. People that are not there yet should buy a Hamilton or Seiko and enjoy that while they build a financial foundation
@JANTHONYCHANNEL3 ай бұрын
Well said, it's hard to enjoy something when it's costing you peace of mind elsewhere.
@TriforceRich3 ай бұрын
It's all about balance. Don't be the cheap guy who takes millions of unspent money to the grave, unless you truly get 0 enjoyment out of experiences/material goods, and also don't be the guy who needs to constantly spend, especially beyond their means. I'm more of the mentality of don't be an idiot with your money. Go on vacations but there is no need to spend 1000s of dollars a night on a hotel or constantly buy material goods... My watches aren't investments but I do see them as stores of cash. Personally, I think the dumbest way to burn money is first class flights and unnecessarily expensive hotels. Even a dumb purse has some sort of value but these "experiences" are literally lighting money on fire. I like a nice hotel but I don't need a $2,000 a night villa and my butt can be a bit sore roundtrip, instead of spending a Rolex on a bit of comfort.
@eyeheartsushi22123 ай бұрын
Thank you for bringing some perspective about “experiences”, as people can easily overspend on them.
@JANTHONYCHANNEL3 ай бұрын
Totally fair! Agree that you can't purely live to work and survive. I've made do without a lot of things that others wouldn't want to. Balance is a great way to sum it up. Totally hear you on first class tickets, the difference between premium economy and first class on my last flight to Japan was $23,000....insane.

We just paid off both CC’s and both cars a few weeks ago! First thought….dump a monthly payment into the watch fund!!!!!….Second thought was don’t be an idiot…Call the financial advisor, tell him what we did and ask him now what. It felt better to make that decision versus to start saving for another watch on top of the one I’m currently waiting for the call on ( got the cash for that one thank goodness). The watches are investment’s argument has kind of separated KZbin into separate camps and created Soooooo much drama as I’m sure you’ve seen. Once that money is spent…it’s gone in my opinion.
@JANTHONYCHANNEL3 ай бұрын
Good for you! Congrats on that milestone and moving towards financial freedom. I’m with you, once it’s spent I don’t have expectations of seeing it again. Sounds like you’ve had some life experience.

Buying watches is only a symptom of a much larger social issue. It may have started as a lack of financial education but now it’s just values that are out of whack. What happens when this generation reaches retirement and can no longer work? Another bailout?
@JANTHONYCHANNEL3 ай бұрын
Agreed, entitlement and expecting something from nothing or to be forgiven to making poor decisions won’t end well.
@Spiff18873 ай бұрын
I would take the "pay cash" thing one step further (with the exception of cars): You can only afford to buy something if you can also afford to replace it if you had to the very next day. May be a bit extreme, but you'll never struggle to pay for something you need because of something you wanted.
