The Stanislavsky method, super basic: 1. Who is the character? 2. What does the character want? 3. What does the character do to achieve the goal? These are 3 basic questions every actor should ask themself at the beginning

*I am a new voice actor* with a burning desire *to take my skill to the next level*. My question is: How do I act in a more realistically *resonant and compelling* way when reading -- that is, in a situation where the script isn't memorized? By the way, I really appreciated this video, it was insightful and informative. While my voice acting realism with memorized scripts is relatively good, there is a problem: *This acting realism does not happen to the same degree when I'm actually reading the script out loud*. It happens when I'm beginning to memorize or have memorized the script. These two modes of acting (memorized versus reading) feel very different in my mind. In fact, I find that when *I've realistically acted a memorized script, and I then try to act it while reading the result is not as good as if I'm not reading. *I've noticed that after I've analyzed the script and eventually memorized it* the more I let go and imaginatively live the story *without reading*, (living the character and feeling his intentions as he interacts with other character(s)), I find that I'm even beginning to feel the characters' sensations bodily (breathing, tension or relaxation etc...) which really helps me act with realistic vocal variations (in my pace, pitch, power, and emotional tone etc...). However, I find it very difficult to achieve the same level of acting while I'm reading the script out loud. So again my question is: How do I act in a realistically resonant way when reading or when the script isn't memorized? My challenge seems to be (and I could be wrong): I have difficulty being fully immersed in or connected to "the theater of my mind" (as I've heard voice actors call it) as I read. As I said, I'm a new voice actor with a burning desire to take my skill to *the next level*, and I would deeply appreciate any feedback you can give. Thanks

We tend to exaggerate some actions,but we can do it realistically how we do on our daily basis,but what if the charecter is doing something we don't do in our lives and know how much acting is realistic?...like example,he is having a panic attack,he is fearing for his life,he is nearly dying?

Hmm, I’d say for traumatic experiences for the character, you’d have to at least experience a panic attack or very serious anxiousness in order to play that part well. It might also help to become that character? Think, and do actions that would seem like what the character would do. Eg, if the character was a very timid person and was faced with death by monster, they might tremble and cover their mouths in order to not make a noise. If they were threatened by a gun and the character was a very brave and “gangster” like person that was experienced with that type of stuff then they might still up, put their hands up, and ask what the other person wants. They were hot headed and strong, they might fight back

What you’re talking about is impediment work. A good way to build this skill is to practicing with recreating a specific pain. For example: everybody has had to deal with a headache so you could practice with revere sting those symptoms. And be super specific about the symptoms a migraine headache is different from a heading headache that came from reading without your glasses. Anyway, start with simple things and then you can play around with creating the behavior while your doing the dishes or buying groceries and then start working with text and incorporate the behavior . One person committed that probably need to actually experience a panic attack to recreate it .... No. All you need is specific details, imagination and practice.

@@alenanela1743 Ya. It's just way easy to say it and dream it than it is to do it. An not for the lack of trying or hard work.. Maybe suddenly being able to save my money or coming across a windfall of some kind that can provide the initial investment needed to reach for that dream. Luck has eluded me for the most part, perhaps I'll be due a little.. There are some amazing classes in NYC I would cut toes off to attend. Need to get their first, but any magic eight ball I shake is reading back.. looks doubtful. I might be able to eventually afford to drive to NY and attend classes on weekends and pay for all the audition sites, and self film tapes at home in hopes of an opportunity. That is, of course, assuming I end up having any talent at all in the art of acting, which I will never know, unless I get in that classroom and try! Sorry for the long reply, just thinking out loud. Thanks for the advise. I've been saying that same thing to myself for years.

I had a hard time with this. I remember, there was this one commercial shoot I did. They asked me to act "surprised". It was that kind of shoot where they were giving me what they wanted to see once the shot was set-up, you know. So, the camera was inches from my face and all of the sudden I needed to be surprised. For some reason I just, couldn't. I couldn't bring myself to "be" surprised. I had never felt a wall like that, not even with crying on cue.
@Studio24inc2 жыл бұрын
They gave you a "result" direction, which isn't necessarily an easy thing to play. Perhaps a better direction would have been, "imagine that you just found out you won 20 million dollars" or "You just heard your name read as the winner of the academy award". This would have supported a "surprised" reaction from you because it was a playable direction. Next time you get a "result" direction, turn it into something playable.

no no no you cannot mix looking into the camera and looking at a third person next to the camera. It is the uncanny mistake usually only made by lazy youtubers who do not learn all the lines and need to switch camera to hide going to a new take. Are you even a real studio making this mistake?
