Glad to see these continuing to roll out, it makes so much more sense than sending an adapter to each and every owner of a CCS car in America.

I’d happily buy an adapter if it allowed my CCS vehicle to charge on NACS Tesla Super Chargers. There are currently no Magic Dock Tesla Superchargers within hundreds of miles of Los Angeles.
@JoBroProducitons Жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, in it's current state magic dock is totally useless except to a few lucky people. I'm just saying in terms of how many you'd need to make, charger located adapters make more sense. There are something like 20k superchargers in the US, Ford will sell more CCS Mach-e's this year alone. I agree though, if I can get an adapter for my Ioniq 6 before magic dock comes to my area I'm 100% buying one.

That's my neck of the woods. I counted the number of stalls, and it looks like Tesla just quintupled the CCS capacity between Seattle and Spokane literally overnight! Before the Magic Docks, the CCS network between these two cities offered less daily passenger capacity than the once-per-day Greyhound bus.

Good job, Max. Always enjoy your videos. What was your maximum charging rate? Interesting that since your video, both Craig and Lamar, CO have been added to the magic dock map. Glad to see the progress. Limon, CO would be a great candidate since it has so many unused stalls.

144 kW which is standard for my Polestar 2 at 30% - my car is a near perfect scenario being 400V and not having a high enough rated charge speed anyways to need more than 155 kW peak

Max, I think you covered the pricing well, however I feel like it would’ve been good to comment on the maximum power you can get with the adapter I believe even the pole star two would have been limited versus charging on a regular CCS HPC. Also, maybe a comment on 800 V cars like the Ioniq 5, Kia etc EGMP and Porsche Taycan (which I have) or Audi ETron GT.

Between the coasts I see around 4-5 locations where this is available, so let’s not get too excited about this development. The closest one to here is 305 mi away in Ft Worth, TX
@larryhendren9111 Жыл бұрын
28 locations in the US as of today.
@glenngore6609 Жыл бұрын
@@larryhendren9111According to the US Energy Department, there are 1847 Tesla Supercharger sites in the US, so 28 locations with interoperability is hardly a drop in the bucket right now. Only 10 Superchargers sites are located on non-Interstate, US or State highways. Those Interstate highways can be hundreds of miles apart all across the country, so Tesla has a LOT of work to do to make the Supercharger network truly ubiquitous by filling in those huge gaps
@ab-tf5fl Жыл бұрын
I would actually argue that the charger 305 miles away is actually useful for going on road trips in a way that a charger just 5 miles away from you is not.
@glenngore6609 Жыл бұрын
Well, since there are no other Tesla Supercharger sites in that 305 miles at all, and since there are no CCS fast charging sites either, that would make a roadtrip pretty much impossible, especially in the wintertime when range is reduced as much as 40%. The simple fact remains that Tesla MUST start building Supercharger sites along US and State highways now that they have the Interstates well served. People do not just drive Interstates, the rest of the roads in the country, US and State highways, actually carry more total traffic than the Interstates, so they need to be served @@ab-tf5fl

Is it more expensive for non Teslas?
@Geckogold Жыл бұрын
From what I've seen, it's usually 10-12 cents more per kW/minute. But if you subscribe and pay $12.99 a month, you can charge at the same rates that Tesla owners pay. It's similar to Electrify America's subscription where you can pay a slightly higher fee per use, or subscribe monthly and pay a little less. As to whether that's worth it to subscribe, it depends. If you don't use it much, then no. But if you do use it frequently, then it might be cheaper to subscribe to get the lower rates.
@scottlewis1603 Жыл бұрын
Can I charge at one of these chargers if I have my own adapter?
@Geckogold Жыл бұрын
Probably not, because your EV still needs to communicate first with the supercharger stall before it dispenses power. I'd imagine if you unplug just the NACS connector and hooked in your EV without the Magic Dock, the car won't be able to talk to the supercharger, and it won't initiate a charge. A Tesla can obviously do that because it tells the supercharger that it's a Tesla, and has the credit card information, and then the supercharger verifies the information then starts the charging session. Once you're done, then Tesla bills the credit card you have on file based on which one you used when you placed an order online for one. It's also awesome because of how seamless this process is.

Tesla isn't moving very fast with this. There's one of these chargers in the entire state of NY. In a dumpy town that is best to avoid at night. In fact, there's nothing along the entire Boston, NY, DC corridor. Driving a non-tesla EV on road trips is still an unpleasant experience.

@rickvenuto8944 Жыл бұрын
Yep, I read with that. The supercharger near me is almost always completely full. Sometimes you have to wait 30 seconds to a minute for a spot to open up. I can't imagine what it'll be like when they get non-Tesla's in there. Fortunately, I charge 99% of the time at home. I can see it coming. Somebody takes up two or three spaces because they can't get it hooked up in the space allotted, and somebody comes by and gets mad and a fight breaks out. It'll be on the news. I'm not hoping for that. I just know human nature and there are too many people out there that are not patient.
@Geckogold Жыл бұрын
Hopefully this means Tesla can build more superchargers to alleviate the inevitable incoming demand from non-Tesla EV's along with way more Teslas coming too. Especially once they start selling that $25k one.
