How to activate wifi hotspot/tether for free

I have a Nexus 7, but not a phone. Is there anyway to just use the tethering app for the tablet where a wi fi is available? Or do I just need to use the ATT Uverse wi fi hot spot? Sorry these are dumb questions, but obviously I am not computer savvy.

Found supersu for my Samsung G3 and the install says riskie to install. Is their a spoofed look alike supersu that could cause some problems? Allow Root Checker Advanced to access your contacts? Is that the right thing to do? or are we looking for something else. Root Checker Advanced is a great tool to check you Root Setup. This does not sound like what we want.

Hey I have an issue, so I rooted my phone and downloaded this app. Then I granted it root access. Next I went to the app and put it on Native Framwork Tether and it still says "What the hell" and the hotspot just turns off. What should I do?

this is only for androids... if you go to google store and put in PdaNet+. this does not require rooting. this app is not compatable with boost or att but that should be all

Or you can do what I learned from Android research from the honeycomb Android era ,around 4.1 came out . You simply put a proxy on you're WiFi settings if you want to use a phone with no data plan for the hotspot.

I used the latest version of PDANet 5.19 and works with Samsung S8+ using wifi hot spot. For mac users, you have to go into your network settings and use a proxy. Instructions are included with PDAnet. Using wifi right now.

I have a Verizon S4 MI1. The wifi tether app was removed from the play store, so I downloaded the 3.3 BETA 2 version from online, but received an error message when trying to connect: "tethering started with errors" and then it doesn't connect. I'm unfamiliar with tethering so I'm not sure how to troubleshoot here. Any ideas?

Wilmac Raymonvil Rootjunky.com , well i can tell you from talking to my carrier last year early 2014 AT&T that they do know when you tether. I was using Foxfi application and they actually called me saying that they detected tethering activity. I don't know the technical details but they said that they could see that the port accessing the internet was different from my mobile phone. Tablets, PC's and Laptops all have different port names/ numbers for identification and ATT told me they could see it. They issued one warning to stop or they would take away the unlimited plan and start charging the fee for wifi tether. Anyways, the automatic update to android os stopped foxfi a couple of weeks later and it no longer works. That seems to be the problem here. The carrier rolls out some update that soon enough breaks whatever free tether app you are using. I don't know of any app that is full proof and just works and on which carrier? If you guys know that, i would appreciate some info.

I have been tethering from my android device for 3 years and have not gotten any notice from Verizon. That is not to say that they do not know that I am tethering using a root app. One thing to keep in mind though if you don't have and unlimited data plan you will pay for any data overages that go beyond your plan.
