Max guard actually makes the boss target you so max guard is really useful too, you want to use max guard if someone is full on hp because otherwise it's a wasted 1/4 of a max spirit while max guard actually makes a difference

I liked the difficulty of G-Max but like you said that they didn't do a slow build-up so people didnt have enough time to catch and power up D-Max mons. And the MP limits should have been raised if they were going to release 3 pokemon at once. It just felt rushed.

Yep. I would love to see the stardust, candy, and some coin purchase analytics for everyone who didn't think the event was an issue. Some of the event defenders might have successfully followed data leaks, announcements, and daily grinded dynamax leading up and gotten through without issue. I'm going to bet a key difference between many successes and failures boiled down to how much money people were willing to spend on particles during meetups. But Mr. Kritorys, isn't that how all the features go in this game? I'm pretty sure I've been able to engage nearly every single raid day in a small group, sometimes solo, and recieved free passes during the event...

According to Trainer Tips, using Max Guard makes the boss target you, so its even more important than the heal. They have attacks that hit just one pokemon and attacks that hit the whole party and the tank can agroo the single target ones by using max guard. If that is the case, could be good having a dedicated healer on top of the dedicated tanker, because the tank will probably just spam shields. And if you are an attacker in a team that has a tank and a healer DONT DO THE SWITCH STRATEGY, because your damaged pokemon has to be the one dinamaxing to be healed and you will not be receiving single target attacks so use the atacker to fill the meter faster.

Was down to my last 800 max particals and didn't wanna do anymore Gigantamax battles. So I'd jump in the battles with lobbies around 20-25 and help them battle enough and then quit the max battle. This way they get the help to push them to get their encounter, while I saved my 800 max particals. Did about 5 gigantamax battles just battling and then quitting right at the end. well there is no shown timer on these GMAX battles but if the battle takes longer than exactly 5 minutes, the GMAX 'mon will become 'desperate' and oneshot everything no matter what (shields don't work against it). So if you can't defeat the GMAX boss under 5min, leave and try again. Also, apparently the person that uses shields will be the only target within that group when the GMAX boss attacks, so having someone put 3 shields up during the first max-phases could also be a good idea. Once all their shields are gone, put up 3 shields again (prefferably MAX shields and maybe someone else) and go back into attack mode.

Great video. Thanks for putting it together. However, there us one major obstacle to these that can be almost unpredictable with a large group: PEOPLE Are they out there? Do they know about the meet up? Do they have the circumstances to show up? Will they show up? Are they a high enough trainer level? Do they have the right counters? Are their counters powered up with max moves? Can they afford the candy, XL candy and dust to power them up? Are they connected to social media to even know this stuff? One comment that you read, daxi, was someone said there were kids there with bad pokemon. Thats a factor that should be included. Families that play together is the community and connectedness that Niantic is after with this feature. Theyre throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

I think I had 500 squirtle candies and now I feel like I'm being punished for not catching every single one in existence and trading them for XL candies. I can't believe how much Niantic relies on the meta to communicate with its playerbase. Meta being metaverse (KZbinrs, tweets, social media, etc). The sad part is a lot of that is telling conflicting stories and the poor people in NZ/AUS are sacrificial lambs to figure out how to do stuff.

If I want to grind and walk 10k some day to save up particles to max out my max moves or to be able to do 2 gmax raids in one day without paying money, I should be allowed to do so. Especially considering its 2km for 300 particles which should then ENCOURAGE getting out more. Smh Niantic

From what I’ve heard if it’s correct… ‘max guard’ also draws the attention of the boss towards you making it attack you more and less on your group until the shield 🛡️ is gone, this might could be useful on when using mons that tanks such as Greedent, as with the extra HP you’ll gain with shield 🛡️ + its normal typing would make it resist ghost fast & charge attacks allowing it stay on field longer and taking most of hits allowing other players Pokémon lasts longer before being taken down.

And local groups are only doing these in areas that are an hour away from where I live and at times I can't go. They're not doing the local ones in the park across the street from me. I can't drive two hours round trip for just one of these, cause I'm not spending real money on this feature. I'm gonna continue but the G-MAX feature isn't getting any play from me. Unless it becomes a doable with a team of 4 prepared and maxed out like the original teaser implied. I don't remember seeing large groups in the teaser. I love the speed of the Dynamax raids. To be a be able to beat Charizard with 8 trainers, you'd need: -15+ people to earn a few Gmax Blastoise -invest a ton of stardust, candies, XL candies and Max Particles to power up those counters and their Max moves -make sure 7 other trainers alongside you do the same in some capacity, and were also able to get some Gmax pokemon earlier -use the proper strategy, and make sure you beat the boss fast enough before it "enrages" It's pretty easy, right? Except that if you miss any of these requirements you won't beat any Gmax. 😂

The most effective way I've found to defeat Gengar is by organizing the group strategically. Make sure the strongest trainers stick together, with their Pokémon having max gard and max attack. Group the weaker trainers separately. Since their Pokémon are likely to faint first, they can contribute by cheering and helping fill the Dynamax meter faster. This support allows the stronger trainers to stay in the battle longer, deal more damage, and take less damage overall

This battles ARE timed. After some time the pokemon will "start to become desperate" and OHKO everybody, essentially ending the battle. This takes time, but be aware that you have to do damage as well, not just survive.

The switch strategy between tanks and attacker is actually not a good (eficient) one if you have a designated healer in your group. The healer will heal your untouched attacker so its a waste heal. And as other comments are saying, max guard not only "gives you extra HP" but makes your pokemon the target of boss single attacks so you're effectively tanking damage and protecting your team

We def struggled with our first gigantamax battle with a Venusaur with 19. Thankfully four more rolled up just as we started, so then with 23 it was easy. Afterwards there were 9 scorbunnies that were left at the spot. I think the first issue is too many people are trying to make it without investing candy/dust. The second is people didn't unlock spirit as many didn't think it was useful. Little did they know. Third - don't use that switch strategy as when you use 'Guard'(as you should be doing every round) it goes away when you switch back to the 'tank.' I don't like that strategy at all as my raid group didn't do this and it is making this unnecessarily complicated and we had one max 3 healer in each group. It is YOUR job to guard and attack x2 every turn. This will keep you alive and maximize damage. Cheers!

But, even if all of us turned up with levelled up Dynamax pokemon, we would fail. If we're going down the route of getting people together in big groups, then we need some in-app (not Campfire, there is one post in there from the last 4 years in my county) support to help people group

I want to share something that happened to a friend of mine. He’s been part of our local Pokémon community for a long time because he truly loves the game. During the G-Max event, he often organized community meetups for battles. A few days ago, a group of new players (about 10-20 people) suddenly joined our group chat, saying they wanted to participate in the G-Max battles too. However, they kept disagreeing with the time and place we’d arranged, I was a little concerned. On the day of the meetup, these newcomers arrived in a car about five minutes early. Even though it wasn’t time to start yet, they rushed everyone to join the lobby. My friend tried to get everyone to wait for a few more players who were on their way, but some of the players joined anyway. Because of that, there weren’t enough players left to battle on time, which really upset my friend. To make things worse, those in the car just laughed at him and acted rude in the chat (the mods did nothing). My friend later told me he felt so disappointed in the community that he decided to delete the game and leave the group chat. I feel really sorry for him, but there’s really nothing I can do.

Boss attacks are actually assigned at the beginning of the battle. One Charge move will be the “Large Attack”, which will hit all 4 trainers at the same time, and the other Charge move will be the one that only targets one trainer at a time. The moves may change if you fail and retry, but for any one battle there are only two Charge moves. It will more likely appear like the move changed the further into the battle you go, but that is only because as your partner trainers lose all their Pokémon, you are more likely to become the target and will start seeing the other move, thus why you would want to prioritize keeping everyone from fainting. Once you know which two moves are involved, you can switch to the appropriate tanks to take the damage for your main attacker.
@sambeaumont39521 күн бұрын
The 25k stardust is a nice bonus, better than a much smaller amount, but putting some context into it - it costs around 225k to level up one Pokémon (20 -> 40). So three Pokemon would cost 675k. So you need to win 27 GMax battles to recoup the dust. Then the best GMax will probably get powered up so another 27 after that. And heaven forbid you get better ivs after the fact. At 1-2 capped per day for free to play that is insane. And just reenforces how much the game is pay to play/win.
@Jacquesss0822 күн бұрын
i also think it's worth noting that the boss scales up with the attack bonus in the power stop. This is just what I've noticed when battling dynamax alone.

I believe coordination on when you join the battle is important. We know we will be placed in teams of four and that we want specialist on the team. If everyone just jumps in the raid then the players are placed into teams based on the order they joined. If you go through the effort of putting together a team of four trainer and decide who will do what you want that team to stay together. That team has to join the battle together with on one else jumping in the middle. The alternative is to try to find the other trainers you are paired with and hope you can build the proper mix of guard, healer, and attacker before the battle starts.

1. Prioritize TDO (total damage output: basically resistances and defense first and foremost with super effective damage if possible or neutral if not) over DPS. One of the biggest hurdles to gigantamax battles were having Pokemon survive until the first Dynamax. The best ways to do this is to prioritize more defensive counters that resist the boss' attacks and to power them up to level 30 or higher. 2. Max spirit only heals active pokemon, so switching in to your undamaged DPS mon actively prevents your healers from doing their job. Do not utilize this strategy outside of a final push before or during the point of the raid boss getting desperate. 3. A use of max guard grants more temporary HP to your pokemon than any one use of an equivalent level max spirit will heal it. Using it once per Dynamax or every other Dynamax makes it less likely for you to faint and lets your healer keep up your best mon for the entire battle. Furthermore, max guard appears to make the boss target the pokemon with shields for individual attacks that can be dodged rather than constantly using large attacks that hit everybody and can't be dodged. This further limits the amount of healing that needs to be done per round and thus allows for more damaging attacks to be used. 4. The boss pokemon in Dynamax or gigantamax battles will only ever have 2 moves chosen from their pool of possible charge moves (elite moves included). One will be the large move that hits everyone, while the other will be the targeted move used on individuals. These are randomized everyone time you start a Dynamax or gigantamax battle. Certain combos will be vastly more difficult (gmax Venusaur with solar beam as its large move), while others will be much easier (gmax Charizard with dragon claw as a large move). So don't be afraid to try more than once if you should fail. 5. Cheering affects every team in the raid, not just your own. Several times nobody in my team would have been fully knocked out yet and we'd get the cheering notification on the side anyway. So cheer any time you can once your Pokémon are down. 6. Damage fills the max meter. Your fast & charge moves ought to both be doing super effective damage if they can or neutral if not (never resisted). PS: Given our available mons and gengar's extensive charge moves pool, the best counters to it are bite/med shot greedent (if it doesn't have focus blast and especially if double ghost), zen headbut Metagross (if it doesn't have ghost/dark moves or is a full poison moveset), or bite blastoise (if it has both). Blastoise is the safest option, but also the absolute worst of the 3. Greedent is the next safest option with a slim chance of either an exceptionally great or exceptionally poor performance. Metagross has the highest chance of failure (with 3 of gengar's 7 available moves hitting it for super effective damage) but it also shines the brightest when it works (double resisting 3 of gengar's possible moves and taking neutral damage from the last one). Given how most often I'd either still be on my first pokemon by the end of the raid or by the time the boss got desperate (at which point it would start one shotting monster through full max guard shields with double resisted moves, so your weaknesses and resistances stop mattering), it might just be best to bring one of each.
@mikeyfromsantee21 күн бұрын
I second this as the best advice available. I agree that Blastoise/Greedent/Metagross is the best team to bring to the Gmax Gengar battle.
@violeth225518 күн бұрын
@ minor adjustment after doing some gengar. Charizard is a preferable 3rd mon to Blastoise. Takes neutral from most of gengar's moves, but resists focus blast which hits the toise a lot harder than anticipated.

I know this is a little counterintuitive, but Pokemon Go should really have that one Pokémon and a legendary raid could be a legendary. It could be like something extremely difficult like you have to work as a team 30+ players and it would be a Pokémon that we would constantly use and would actually be useful for everything raids/Pokémon battle league and many other things, but it would be extremely difficult making it extremely worth it

Another make up day need to do for Gigantamax Kanto starters. Max out season finale will be repeat entire season events. May be Gigantamax Galar starters during this event? Gigantamax Rillabom, Gigantamax Cinderace and Gigantamax Inteleon debut during this event?

Max guard can be useful for attackers. It can reduce damage and the shields most likely add up.
@justinprice231521 күн бұрын
Here's the thing, generically speaking. If you want to raid to improve your Dynamax IV's you can't power up max moves. If you want to power up max moves you can't raid. On top of that you have to use your candy to power up max moves, evolve the base evolution to final evolution, and your CP. That's a triple whammy on candy that most players don't have. Niantic needs to sort out the compounding resource requirements or these things will continue to look less favorable then your standard raids.

Just throwing this into the void, but with the group I was with we seem to have the best luck with two attackers and one Pokémon with guard and healing that role would guard the first round all three attacks that alone in almost every battle was enough to keep us alive until it went down

I bet Niantic was collecting data on a certain criteria of trainers to flag them on a watch list considering the frenzy of temp bans from the last Gmax weekend.

I will like to mention intelleon has a VERY high attack stat, so using that as a attacker in a team of blastoise would be very useful.

Personally the difficulty was fine, they do not need to make them easier. Gmax should not be able to be beaten with less than 10 people. The people complaining are the ones with all base evolution mons or they evolved to max evolution but didn’t bother with powering up Max moves. The raids were easy and I live in a rural area, just takes some thinking.
@leonli84421 күн бұрын
It absolutely should be able to be beaten with less than 10. Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon aren't valuable enough to be that much more difficult than the hardest regular raids. It simply becomes more accessible to make it require less people or have it be remoteable. Good, consistent raiding communities are a rarity in rural places, and frankly most places that aren't cities. Just because you've got yours, doesn't mean everyone does.

I really think niantic should give more rare candy as rewards for gigamax raids. It will get more people to participate, and it would allow them to power up pokemon more easlily. To be honest I get up to 2000 stardust per day just by battles in pokemon go.
@ianoleary812221 күн бұрын
I’m gonna use the strategy of only evolving,using no stardust and going to the one busiest g max battle downtown to use my one free battle a day, maybe 2 if I didn’t use my mp the day before..Not worth wasting dust and xls on mons I already have maxed out ones of for megas and raids.

Not only is my group that plays to small. But on top of that we don’t have the candy resource to max anything I used all my chamander candies just evolving and making attack maxed. I can’t even evolve my bulbasaur all the way. I’ve only been playing for a year.

idk why people are saying its too hard. like give it a few months and it will become easier. once everyone gets a chance to get there hands on them and more people get them then it will become easier in time. the face that they made it easier already its not a good sign because in a few months everyone gonna have them and it will just be too easy after while. like this needs to be hard and not easy. i drove 40 miles after work to get one of each and 2 of them got away. idk once they lower it they really cant go back and make it harder and once this is too easy then everyone gonna want more content. either way i enjoy playing and gonna keeping

@meph280622 күн бұрын
I didn't have a problem with the difficulty, I had a problem with the fact that you put down 800 particles (which you can't even stack) down on a single raid and the pokemon flees while you've been throwing golden razz excellents 90% of the time. 2 out of 3 gigantamax starters I was able to fight fled.
@yurishorino63322 күн бұрын
A year from now Gmax will be part of the past and people will be taking them down as easily as we do with raids nowadays. It's all about mindset. We had plenty of time to max out good IVs Dmax, people just weren’t interested. Idk bout you guys but I feel like it's easier to get good IV's o the small Dmax bosses but that's just my experience. We were able to defeat the Kanto trio Gmax bosses with our small group of 26 in my hometown. The only thing I'd say would be the best for rural players would be to match the boss difficulty’s with the number of people in the raid. So it would be hard for everyone but everyone could have access to them. Something to think about Niantic.
@colenaber740922 күн бұрын
Your point is well taken, but I think it's also defending a poor decision by Niantic. Why should we have to power up new counters specifically for these raids? I'm a day-one player, and at my peak, I was what most people would consider a "hardcore raider." Why would I want to spend more time and resources powering up new counters whose ONLY advantage is they can be used in max raids? I can't dynamax or gigantamax in pvp, in non-max raid battles, in gym battles, etc. And nearly all of the max pokemon that are out there are severely outclassed in their respective typings in their normal forms. It just doesn't make sense.
@yurishorino63322 күн бұрын
@ Day one player here too. I mean I get it, but after maxing out all the best Raid counters and some pvping mons, what is there left to max out? Plus you can use Dmax mons in raids just like the regular version?
@colenaber740922 күн бұрын
@yurishorino633 I sort of agree if you're still dedicated to the grind. It's just crazy to me that, after all the time, money, and resources players have spent to date, and we're not able to put those pokemon to use for these raids. And there's no precedent for that, btw. The mainline games that introduced DMAX and GMAX didn't have any such restrictions. And yeah, you can use them in raids, but not in their max forms (at least as far as I know, at this time). Most of the pokemon currently available from Dynamax and Gigantamax raids aren't near the top of their respective typings. The only ones that are close are Gengar and Metagross, and even the latter got nerfed recently. I don't remember the last time I used a non-mega starter pokemon in a raid battle.
@yurishorino63322 күн бұрын
@ my biggest fomo would be for Niantic to unlock them 🤣 Can’t agree more on the restrictions tho, I guess it’s Niantic cashgrab endgame 🤣

A problem with G-max raids that no one is talking about - the fact that they spawn for so long, actually coordinating everyone to be at the same location at the same time is made infinitely more difficult. Raids, easy. Most know to rock up when the egg hatched and go from there. G-max raids spawn for ages no one can coordinate. And don’t start me on campfire. It is soooo desperately lacking in features it’s borderline unusable.

Venusaur is a better tank than Greedent because Gengar has a Ghost, Fighting and Poison type charged move. Venusaur is neutral to Ghost and Poison and resists Fighting. Greedent resists Ghost and is neutral to Poison but is weak to Fighting.
@LucasZunigaP22 күн бұрын
But having a slight attack advantage against Gengar is still better than the neutral or not effective damage that Venusaur can do with his Grass and Poison attacks
@vdsp122 күн бұрын
@@LucasZunigaP Both would be used as tanks, so they wont use max attacks when they dmax and thats where most of the damage is being dealt. And also, for a tank, resistance advantage is better than a little more damage if it was the case.
@mikeyfromsantee21 күн бұрын
@@vdsp1A tank should not be a liability to the Dynamax meter charging, though. Part of protecting attackers is charging the Dynamax meter as fast as possible so that there are less of the Boss’ Charge attacks and more of the team’s Max attacks. Venusaur’s Vine Whip and Razor Leaf would be working against the Dynamax meter while Greedent’s Bite and Crunch would be working towards it.
