I just stretch out a 3 min mix of whatever idea I have and listen to it on loop while I walk the dog until my brain decides it wants to change stuff. That part is so much easier than making mixing decisions for me.

Wow. I think I finally got the message. I’ve probably heard this a hundred different ways in all my years of music education, yet I have books of unfinished songs. All I needed was for someone to put it in terms that I REALLY understand. Of course - Martinis! I’ve been writing like I keep trying to fill a freakin Highball glass.

Yeah, I just finished a song last night that started out as a production idea that ended up stemming from me covering another song and finding a synthesizer sound I REALLY liked. The lyrics came as I sang over the instrumental I created. Sometimes, songs just fall out of the sky and you just have to be ready to receive them.

Fantastic way of looking at it. I'm great at the song idea at the top but got stuck from there a lot of the times. The cocktail glass visual brings the process into focus. Thanks.

I'm glad it helped Corrina! It's more of a 'funnel' really, but cocktail glass is so much more fun ;)

true! ideas can come from many starting point.

Start with a feeling, learn your niche, don’t let song structure box you in. If you need that rigidness use it but eventually you should be able to feel where the song is going musically. Be willing to abandon bad ideas or set them aside in a bone pile to be used for another idea. Let songs grow as organically as possible, you will know when true inspiration hits, carve out time for those moments and you will learn to write quickly and from intuition.

I wrote all the songs on my channel last year from March to December. I'd love a critique from your perspective of any one. Thanks for your interesting tutorials.

The truth is fitting words to melody is generally MUCH MUCH harder than the other way around. It doesn't mean one way is better than the other, but they are certainly not the same challenge level.

90% of time I go with music first, because if it isn't catchy, why bother? People can read a book if they want literature.

NOT completely helpful 😮💨 . Not really into the idea of a " song map " or any pre-writting technique . I don't play an instrument , I just come up with lyrical ideas . ♑️✍️🇸🇯🇦🇺
