Welcome to the Build the Backhand playlist. The advice in this video is more important than any of the technique pieces we discuss moving forward so I hope it will serve as a reminder when you are in the oncoming plateaus. Remember, good form is built over years and it takes a long time for your body to understand what it is your brain is trying to tell it.

New to this and with no reference through 50 or so backhands and injured my elbow. A week later still with no reference, measure my throws. Average distance around 120-130 feet with a long of around 175. Now I’ll start over with this as lesson one. You’re a great teacher and presenter of what you teach and you keep it interesting. In a few months, I’ll pop back here and note if this helped increase my distance and accuracy. Thanks

After watching Robbie's putter video...I went to the park.. I used a 3 finger pinch grip, concentrating the disc rotating before it rips out, my reach back was way from my body. More of an out, in, out movement. Keeping my wrist above my elbow...transferring weight from back leg to front...it seems to work for me. I usually force my putters out to 150', today with good timing and all of the other stuff, ie (Robbie stuff) I threw my Proxy 200'.

The video reinforces what I have been forcing myself to do. Work on one maybe two things until they happen without fixating on them. I was just watching video of my throws from yesterday and I am finally getting my elbow high enough. First throw of the day was good. After my throw, I noticed another discer was watching me. Second throw, I dropped my elbow. Evidence I need to keep absolute focus or it isn’t going to happen. I said to myself “just keep working on it” and immediately thought of this video.

This really helped explain the process. I always had the mindset that of “I’m working to a single goal” then get annoyed when something different happens each time. Id watch a video, get the concept, then try to apply it and it often didn’t work, or it just added a new swing thought. I didn’t understand how to make that happen without obsessing about it on the tee. As a newish player in my 30s I’m going to use the offseason with a net in the basement to give these mechanics time to sink in.

For me, I have to focus on one thing at a time, especially during a round. Having more than one swing thought helps me master nothing. Once I've confirmed on video I got a skill down and it's natural, I move on the the next focus, and check in on what I was working on last to make sure old habits don't creep in. Oh and working on form never ends, so just enjoy the journey and celebrate your achievements.

I’m a consistent 250-300 forehand thrower, but am struggling to get to 250 on a backhand. I used to throw 300, but have almost gotten worse. I’m starting a journey now to try to get my backhand back up to at least the distance my forehand is at right now

You probably already did a vid on this, but i feel its important to take a step further back and look at prioritizing form fixes. If i have multiple issues, there will be an appropriate approach and prioritization as one issues will likely be the root cause of another one.

The BIGGEST hurdles I had to overcome for a pretty decent backhand (in my opinion) firstly rounding, secondly timing, and thirdly nose down or nose flat. I still can't break 450 but I don't care anymore, I'll have to gym or do very small fixes on foot work and timing. I'm still struggle getting off the back foot and full brace foot but I'm okay with it

I've been doing field work mostly (not much playing) for about 6 years. Watching form guides, videoing myself, etc. In that entire time I've never broken 350. For a year or so I was doing at least four hours a week. Haven't watched yet, but this better be good ;p

This is for myself to track improvements and anyone who is wondering if this playlist helps I am new to disc golf started October 2023. First course almost all throws where nose up most shots hardly got the disc past 150 feet. Made it through the first two videos already saw a big improvement in the field almost no throws nose up leading to more consistent shots and a bit more distance. I’ll try to update as I make it farther into the playlist still ironing out grip and lead arm.

Hi Josh, I really like the videos you guys do. I gave you affiliate credit when I got my techdisc, and I ordered a gyro-box! Is the order in the play list the best order for somebody fighting a nose up issue? Are you going to do the same treatment for forehand?
@OverthrowDiscGolf
@OverthrowDiscGolf 8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much Dennis! The same treatment will be done for the forehand. Nose up is one of those things that I feel like can be dealt with it anytime and will probably be dealt with multiple times throughout a form journey.

Winter is coming. Have y’all ever experimented in virtual reality? I have a quest 2 and I can practice stand stills (FH and BH) in VR using off the chains disc golf. Last winter I even recorded myself using my iPad to make sure I had good technique. The game will NOT force you to throw correctly but I can tell when I yank toward the end of the throw. It goes way right. I need to figure out how to record mixed reality. I also have a net and just got tech disc but virtual reality is just one more way to get in lots of reps when stuck indoors.

Been watching all these vids. Just started playing 2 months ago (max drives are only around 325 feet) I have a handicap in that my left foot has "drop foot". I'm still trying to develop muscle memory but that x-step is really clunky for me because of my left foot drag. Any tips on maybe a modified approach that I can really hone in? I'm so new I haven't had the chance to develop any bad habits with only getting on the field maybe 10 times. Thanks for a place to develop, keep up the good work!
