Being late and having to rush is exciting, fun, and we don't have time to overthink our choices, we have to act and commit to the first best option. We're not suffering or struggling emotionally over the task anymore because we are rushing to just get it done before its too late

This almost exactly describes my own procrastination. The overwhelm is the worst part. I start low key panicking about how much work I have to get through that I end up doing nothing as time ticks away. I came up with the same solution. Write out a priority list and start working on the first chunk or the most pressing part of the work. Forget about the rest until that first chunk is done. Quality can improve over time but the first priority is getting something finished. Once you start building up a record of completed work or success you can start gaining a bit more self belief.

I love V0. I've been trying to psych myself up on the idea of rough drafts/explorations that no one will ever see, but something about how snappy V0 is clicked with me. It'll help me mentally compartmentalize early attempts, because I sometimes get attached to the first version of something instead of reworking something from scratch, even when I know it's better to start over.

Ppl will opt for things they like to do over things they don't like to do. It is that simple. Use your active imagination to visualize all the benefits of doing the thing you don't want to do. When you procrastinate, your mind equates the boring activity vs the fun activity in THE PRESENT MOMENT, however, the benefits of the boring activity will come in the future. So close your eyes and to that so you're brain can measure results vs imediate pleasure and not boring vs fun. Visualize, use your imagination, enamorate with that feeling accomplishment that you know you'll get. See yourself working and then see the results in your mind. That will make the fear go away, and it will put things in perspective for your brain. Not trying to be arrogant, but this advice is better than anything you'll find on youtube. You're welcome.

My accountability is to my diary. At the start of a productive day, I will make appointments with myself to do each of the things I need to do, and it really helps me to keep on track. My diary is broken into 10 minute intervals, and everything goes in there, including coffee breaks. Coincidentally, every unproductive day is when I haven't done this, and every productive day is when I have.

Using music is literally the only thing that can get me to even write a single word for my term papers. It's when I don't know what to listen to when it becomes a problem. Or when I spend two days procrastinating on even pressing the play button because I know that music = having to start with work. So I kinda add the V0 method to that and press the play button and chill with my laptop next to me, not pressuring myself into beginning the work. When I feel ready I start typing. It's not a perfect system but I guess it's the best we've got.

2:31 Oh boy do I have a specimen to examine then - me. If I need to go to the kitchen to get a specific thing, I'll freak out, sweat, shake, keep rehearsing in my head what I'm going to do, etc. You're right, though, that it's a relatively easy task when I'm just meandering through the house, opening the refrigerator and cabinets just to look at things with no real goal. As for mail - in a month I'll have lived at my new house for two years, and just last month I finally started being able to convince myself to check the mailbox every 1-2 weeks (aka, I've done it two times so far lol, prior to a month ago my roommate would just get it every day); even with that I had to sort of "trick" myself by doing when I took the trash out next to it. It's wild that I've been taking the trash out for this long, literally standing *inches* away from the mailbox, but being unable to get over my stress/fear of opening the mailbox (a lot of it was irrational ADHD nonsense with no real reason for being "scared", but a tiny fraction of it was the flight response because I knew if I took the mail out that there might be something inside that I have to do).

Hi! I liked the video. I struggle a little with this matter, but I'm implementing what you showed. In 1 month , I will come back to give my perception and results. Week 1 and 2: plan the week (high level) and focus on only identifying what the root cause is. Take notes. At the end of the period, sum up the results. Week 3 and 4: plan the week (high level) and focus on using the solutions. Take notes. See y'all 13/08

Hi everyone, sharing the results. During the first two weeks, I noticed an overwhelming sensation about 83% of the time. However, on the following weeks, I experimented that taking the first step really worked in reducing this feeling. But it became crystal clear to me that there's no avoiding procrastination if you don't know what needs to be done. Therefore, I highly recommend starting your day by listing and organizing your time, which helps tackle procrastination problems. I must admit that I'm not a machine at fighting procrastination; it does take time and effort. The key virtue I want to emphasize is patience. Wishing you all the best!

It’s another stream of income which multiple streams of income is what everyone nowadays should try to create being that job security isn’t really a thing anymore and the cost of living constantly going up I LOVE buying courses and have learned SO much from them, especially being that most free info out here is surface level plus when you pay 💰 you pay attention When you’ve paid for something it motivates you more to wanna get an ROI from it so paying for a court on a subject can actually HELP you take it more seriously when it comes to implementing it

🎯 Key points for quick navigation: 00:00 *🧠 Understanding procrastination starts with identifying its root causes, not just applying generic productivity tips.* 01:22 *📝 Productivity hinges on clear goals and priorities; lack thereof fuels procrastination, especially for those with ADHD tendencies.* 02:16 *😨 Procrastination often stems from fear (of failure or inadequacy), lack of interest aligned with personal values, or feeling overwhelmed.* 06:03 *🚀 Overcoming overwhelm involves focusing solely on the first step of a task to reduce perceived stakes and initiate momentum.* 08:23 *🎶 Addressing boredom or lack of interest in tasks can be alleviated by making them more enjoyable, such as listening to music or finding ways to engage with the task.* 09:17 *🛠️ Managing fear of failure can be approached by starting with a "vzero" version of the task, a low-stakes initial attempt that reduces pressure and allows for iterative improvements.* 12:33 *🤝 Accountability from others, whether friends, family, or mentors, can significantly help in overcoming procrastination by providing external motivation and support.* Made with HARPA AI

Hi, Informative video! I think a lot of procrastination comes down to, not knowing exactly HOW TO DO something that you want to get done. so as you said, you need CLARITY, and to just START. I think there are very important steps , BEFORE you start anything with multiple tasks involved. 1---A materials list Like Envelopes, paper etc. 2---- A ---HOW TO DO LIST--- This is where you list all the tasks in order, which when completed will lead to finishing whatever it is you want to get done. It is important to break down your tasks to smaller easily manageable chunks Check out Tony Robbins, in his talks about CHUNKING! Great videos! Thank you!!!!.

My criticism is pointed towards the nature of this self help bro industry using inflated corporate terminology to pull people in and drive profit. People like me come here to improve their lives, and figure out at the end of the video that this was just an AD for a course or group membership. It's annoying. This is not a phenomenon unique to you, it happens everywhere. And I am annoyed by it. Most people won't care, but I personally don't like this trend. It's pay to win irl. I have another channel that has 40k subs where I don't sell anything. For those people who are serious about change, faster change requires more resources such as coaches, community, etc, which cost $ to run. It's optional. But yes, the coupling of overwhelm and fear leads to procrastination which creates anxiety, heightens fear, creates more overwhelm, etc. Then when you finally sit down and take the very first step, you can finally breathe again and you wonder what kept you from starting in the first place 🤦‍♂️

very basic and lacking information, but I understand it is more of a starting point. HOWEVER, the "steps to hyperfocus" thing seems out of place because you just say "oh ADHD something something" and move on. I think you can just remove it, at least for this type of video, since it keeps itself on a surface level and true to what you're actually proposing, instead of tackling an extremely complex subject and dismissing it in 2 minutes as if it were not important (for people with ADHD)

The philosophical presupposition behind the term "procrastination" is that there is something that I am "supposed" to be doing. What is that thing that I'm supposed to do that "procrastination" describes my unwillingness to do? Who decided that I'm supposed to do that thing? Why do I care if you're a NASA engineer? Does that magically give you insight on how to answer this question more so than anyone else? Looking into the description of the video, I can see that you're selling a course, which indicates that the main purpose of this video is not to answer the question, but to sell a course. So why should I listen to you? Also, if you truly figured out the answer and you were completely content with your life because of that knowledge, what led you to start a channel and post the knowledge online? Why not just live and be happy and content? Because you have a desire to help people? We already figured out it's for money, so don't lie to me and don't lie to yourself. Whenever you're in a blissful moment, the last thing you think is "You know what, I'm having such a great time, lets create a KZbin channel and share it with everyone." Anyone who genuinely wants to help other people has to consider a variety of factors that would paralyze anyone into inaction. Thus, I shouldn't listen to you because you're essentially a liar in a variety of ways. Think yourself out of that one.

Good questions -- I have another channel with 40K subscribers that I started 3 years ago where I do not sell a course and barely make money. I think you have a belief that people don't do things just to share knowledge or help others. Maybe I get satisfaction from knowing my content is helping other people, but money is not the primary incentive.

@@alialqaraghuli Hey man, you know what. The kind of cynicism I posted isn't helpful or warranted. It's needlessly critical and doesn't inspire the best parts of us. You took the risk, started a channel, put yourself out there, and I'm just some guy hiding behind a computer making a rude comment. But despite that, you didn't stoop to my level and instead responded with a clear and concise post without any seeming anger or resentment. That's a great character quality. I feel inspired to be the same way. Sorry for my rudeness man. Don't let it stop you from helping others and bringing knowledge to the world. You're doing something great. Just wanted to set the record straight, rather than let this kind of negativity get the best of us all.

Unconciously i had been following similar pattern and the three reasons that you have mentioned is pretty much what also applies to me. i cannot think of any more. now after watching this video i can articulate and breakdown the reasons of my procrastination. however, i always end up procrastinating in new scenarios and new projects once i get off with old one. have you figured out any way to constantly fire up yourself to carry on with the necessary without any external pressure?

I've been using a version of the V0 concept to get my writing started for a long time. Most people know that the first draft is always bad, but even before the first draft you sometimes have to put some even worse garbage on paper to get the ball rolling. Improving something is always easier than making something great in one go. 👍 Good luck with your work everyone.

Hello Ali, i like your delivery style. It's transparent and like you said at the beginning it's not the cookie cutter style approach that typically saturates KZbin. I have a real issue with not having proper goals in life in general. So i find myself fighting many small battles day to day without understanding the purpose of the war. Your systems approach to breaking it down to a few components resonates with me. Will look out for more vids.

from your science perspective, do you think procrastination has something to do with child hood trauma needed to be resolved first? healing the past trauma etc.
@alialqaraghuli
@alialqaraghuli 3 ай бұрын
that is very likely, for both overwhelm and fear -- especially fear. Fear of failure likely has a lot to do with early childhood criticism. Same goes for perfectionist tendencies. Research is still premature here but my intuition trauma is the main amplifier of all psychological disorders.

Personally I find most things pretty pointless due to some pretty irrefutable objective rationalization and having done most things I wanted to do. I don't have any complaints or regrets. If I had some anti procrastination drugs to make things more meaningful and mystical again, allowing me to subjectively transcend the annoying deep existential irrelevance that over comes my mind now when pursuing even the most interesting things that would be great. Unfortunately music or other simple stimulations don't cut it. Everything emotionally seems like a piece of burnt toast at this point lol....

Life is very subjective -- it's one perspective to view things as meaningless, I;ve been down that rabbithole myself. But then I realized it doesn't really serve me, plus what if I am wrong? I am only a human, there;s no way I have figured this entire life out. My meaning now comes in doing things that help others, as well as experiencing things myself, and being open to the idea that there is something more
