Aside from meditating, here's what helped me the most: Always be aware of what you're currently doing. You're gonna be surprised just how much control your subconcious has over your daily routines. You'll start to notice patterns such as randomly going to your phone to check a notification, only to end up scrolling on YT/TikTok/Whichever social media site you're using. Focus on what you're doing, and once you notice the urge creeping up, try to resist it and concentrate on your ACTUAL goals at hand. You don't have to use willpower, just let the urge slide and convince yourself to do smth. productive instead. Cravings for small bursts of dopamine will usually subside the moment you enter the Flow State

Hi, if you are in a complete brain rot state, I would recommend you to start walking outside with music without allowing yourself to look at your phone. Bonus point if you put an album on that you wanted to listen to front to back for a long time. This isn't boring but slow paced and a good point to start. Start with 15-20 Minutes and most likely you are in flow by then and can do more easily. It was my start and now I walk 60-90 Minutes multiple times a week without even music, just thinking about my life and who I even am. It is a worthwhile pursuit. Good luck guys!

It sometimes baffles me that this sort of thing isn't taught as widely as physical exercise. I'm a psych major as well and even just one semester of one psych class taught me more about my brain and especially the processes involved with neuroplasticity that I believe everyone should learn. Why are psychologists the only ones taught that parts of your conscious AND subconscious mind are physically and tangibly changed with time and effort? Sure I always heard things about meditation helping with focus and stress and whatnot, but I never really believed it until I understood the physical and tangible process behind said phenomena.

When I used to skate and it would fill up with a lot of people (kids especially), I would get nauseous and loooooaads of anxious feelings, which would lead to... dun-dun-dunn, an anxiety attack. 😀 Back then, I would use methods to ground myself in hopes of it working on the spot, but anxiety was something I didn't know how to handle that well, nor did I know anyone who could help. (My dad's best advice to this was to "just calm down," as if I'm not trying lmao.) A few years back, right around quarantine because I was taking up journaling again, I realized that in a crowded room, the space in my head was even louder with thoughts that don't even matter to me. (After meditating, even though anxiety attacks still happen, it isn't as bad anymore and a lot less frequent.) Like the person above me said, this video inspired me to meditate a lot more again. I've been slacking with poor excuses to make myself feel better, but it's (imo) better than any medication out there. Seeing everyone's comments helped me see that I'm not the only one, so it's easier to be forgiving toward myself for that. I'm really glad to be in an era where so many people are connected like this. Otherwise, I would've never found out about meditation or its benefits. These people are really amazing, so long as you look for them. :)

Hey! I'm not the pearson who wrote the original comment, but I'd like to answer your question haha. I'm addicted to scrolling and started meditating a month ago with the help of an app called Atom. My anxiety and procrastination are weaker now! Of course, at the moment, it hasn't been life changing (one thing I've learned in this journey is that the turning point happens gradually) but I know that, in some months or even years, I'll look back and think "wow, now I see how it was life changing". Well, for now, the things I've noticed are: if my thoughts are consuming me, meditating helps not only to quiet them considerably at the moment, but also that effect stays for some hours after I finish my meditation. They dont go away, but man just having less of them is of big help to my concentration. I have more will not only to work, but also to take care of myself properly - clean my room more often, eat healthier meals, exercise... And, an important disclaimer: these changes didnt happen exclusively because of meditation. I've been working on myself in different areas of my life for 3 years now. I'm not trying to lessen the importance of meditation for my life, I'm just trying to be realist. With that in mind, hopefully you will start meditating (or some other self care and self improvement habit) and feel better :) Good luck and goob work guys!

Something I've been doing is a thing called morning pages, it's three pages every morning of stream of consciousness writing. Writing whatever comes to mind. I'm doing this in a classic composition notebook so the pages are fairly big (compared to most journals) so writing tends to take me 40 minutes to an hour depending on how focused I am, no phone, music, etc. Since it's writing, it's also interesting to examine the how's and why's of endless scrolling. For me it seems connected to my fear of waking up in the morning, the fear of having to face the world, so scrolling numbs it. I've been actively using the internet less (endless youtube videos and social media) and there's been a direct association for me to dissociate less, have less panic attacks, and be generally better in my skin. I believe it's because I get to curate more what I want to see, been using a pocket notebook to scribble, write down ideas, etc and when bored I've been looking back into that notebook which is 1) limited in information due to size and amount of pages and 2) things I care more about than random instagram crap. Also started a commonplace book for information I'd want to retain, another way to curate what I take in and want to remember. Paper has really been changing my life

I followed this one meditation video for 30 days in a row. It was meant for ADHD people (such as myself), so it had a sound cue to redirect your attention back to the video. After some time of listening to that same video every night, I noticed I was able to focus much better even without the sound cues than I was when I first listened to it. That was huge progress for me, since my mind usually tends to run from thought to thought, but not during meditation. I can wholeheartedly recommend meditation. The better focus is not the only benefit you get from doing it. It increases your dopamine levels (which is directly linked to your focus. More dopamine = better focus). Meditation also helps you calm down and release stress, possibly slowing down your thoughts and focusing on the present or on your body (this is called mindfulness). Putting your electronics away an hour before you go to sleep and then meditating can improve your quality of sleep as well. Meditating every day improves your mood. And possibly loads of other benefits that I can’t think of right now. 100% recommend. Edit: just gotta say that now I want to close KZbin and do something else. I was originally gonna watch some shorts, but this video was a great reminder of what’s actually healthy

My internet went down for about 10 minutes during the exercise and I was thinking, "This has to be the longest 30 seconds of my life". I'm not a newbie to meditation but I haven't done it in a long long time, even when I wanted and needed to. Thanks for giving me that push again, I can't remember the last time I relaxed.

Hello there! General Kenobi! You may not like this advice but try going to church, you will find more than what you are seeking. I recommend the Orthodox because it takes its faith very seriously and the priests are mentors that mentor you to become a better person and to get closer to God.

note: i don't feel like editing my reply but i just mean that i only watched documentaries in my freetime and nothing else. i quite literally did not have any hobbies at all. like can you imagine a 7 year old just coming home from school to watch like two documentaries and play Club Penguin for three hours before going to sleep at 8-9pm? that was my daily life💀 i started from doodling silly little anime style eyes in the margins of my page (even though i don't watch anime) and i got to where i am now after six years or so, so that's something... also please don't judge my pfp :') it's from 2020 so it's four years old but i got too attached to it so i don't really want to change it as such- that's all i have to say :P thanks for reading

Hobbies are more than just entertainment, It’s rewarding to refine a skill or talent. Passive entertainment is lack lustre, many businesses bank on us procrastinating rather than them actually wishing to enrich us with art etc. hence so many bad films and tv programs. Finding a skill or talent that you admire or see value in could be a way to get hobbies, even if you’re not a natural just dedicate yourself to practice and it will become much more rewarding as you get the hang of it. Social engagement is rewarding like team exercises and stuff.

guys try to do a 1h rep of reading twice a day then 2h rep a day, you'll find how much time it takes for you to fall off in focus and to focus back on the subject at hand. you can like in your work outs put objectives and write the results down. reading is the best exercice to perform better.

I hope we can all get through this guys. Know that you are not alone and if we try enough, we will be able to focus on things again :)
@CallummullansАй бұрын
You can think of attention span as being elastic. It’s easy to pay hyper attention to short bursts of information such as instruction and then snap back just as fast when the instruction is over. Focus involves attentiveness.
@Scarshadow6663 ай бұрын
Along with meditation, I think something else that people should do to help is having goals (or something small like some events or hikes or something) to look forward to, as well as seeing if there's some IRL things/issues going on where something is missing (and doom-scrolling is a way to help fill in for what's missing). Sometimes people turn to doom-scrolling if their IRL relationships are poorly and/or distant, if they need to decompress from school/work/major responsibilities or expectations, if they have confidence issues/don't trust their own perception of things and turn to others to corroborate, etc.

Phone is my biggest distraction. So this Sunday I just took a notebook and wrote the things I wanted to achieve I wrote that I’ll not look at my phone, I will do push ups every day, crochet and some other stuff. And it’s going pretty well right now it’s my 3. Day and I just looked 4 hours phone this week what’s really an small amount for me. I’ll give an advice to you guys. First of all think how serious your problem is. Don’t hurt yourself be positive tell yourself that you can do this but be “honest” with yourself! After this throw your phone on your bed and start by tidying your room. Or the homework that’s been waiting for you for days! But never ever take the phone before your done with your stuff. When your done with that stuff you will have that feeling to achieve something. After that hide your TikTok, Instagram, KZbin,… somewhere between your apps or delete it. 2. part done. Now you can start finding new hobbies. Reading book, go shopping buy new stuff, learn something. But like really try to do that! Just put your damn phone away and do it! Take fresh air see how beautiful the world is! What you can do! Just believe in yourself guys! It’s not impossible!!!

Really good if you have too many thoughts to be able to sleep. I started doing it just to try to think about nothing, absolutely nothing out of curiosity, it was hard, it felt weirdly nice and then it hit me that it was actually what people called meditation.

This was truly enlightening. It emphasized the significance of being mindful of my actions and highlighted the shortcomings in my attention span. It provided clarity on why I've been struggling to meet deadlines, facing criticism for unfulfilled promises, and experiencing a lack of rhythm in my life. Recognizing my need for constant stimulation, I often become overwhelmed when it's lacking. The video underscored the importance of grounding oneself and the value of meditation. I'm committed to incorporating meditation into my routine again. Thank you for sharing this insightful content. Keep up the excellent work!

Just my two cents as a muslim, waking up early in the morning and praying fajr has a similar effect to meditation, at least for me. It feels rewarding pouring all your focus into worship first thing in the morning, and sitting calmly with a clear head afterwards. Helps you keep track of what's most important, i encourage my fellow muslimeen to make more of an effort in praying fajr on time in this age where technology consumes us

I like the idea behind this video but for me personally the idea I had for meditation was bad. When I started I was told to focus on my breadth, and I done that so well that it became like a new distraction. As a result I wasn't able to view the images and thoughts that emerged from my subconscious because I was still unconscious. Besides meditation what really helped me alot is journaling. Preferably for me at the end of the day, when we tend to distract ourselves. I'd review my day and look at what my concerns were throughout the day. Fears and concerns. After doing this, then going into a meditative state I think is beneficial. Breathwork became a sought of drug I used to experience a temporary bliss.

thank you so much for this video... i think i might be able to focus on my work now i'm currently procrastinating on 20 hours worth of catch-up work i have to do as soon as possible for my week of absences a month ago. i wasn't able to focus and i was just scrolling and biting my nails... they're quite bad, like i've measured them and the nail beds are 1-2mm long after the cuticle (after biting in about 1.5cm) and i tend to think about them a lot as well? got distracted during the video thinking about them haha i don't not enjoy studying, in fact i really do, but i just find i can't really focus on anything anymore because i find myself so stressed out by the workload there is in secondary school i know i'm not that old yet, but it really scares me that i'm not too far from not being a minor anymore, and it doesn't help that i tend to complete things slowly as well as how anxiety and derealising often goes i think i'm going to finally close YT now and focus on something. it's 11pm here so i probably should anyways. thanks a lot again :) and sorry to anyone who read all of this and wasted their time... i just needed to get this out of my system :P have a nice day ^^

I know some people have already said this but being aware of your actions is a big one, one thing to help this is (I haven't done this much but the times I have it helped); saying out loud what you are going to do something before doing it (ex: "I will do homework now" or "I will walk to my room and then clean it)
