Curriculum. Which is best? It doesn’t matter. So how do you actually make your kid smart? By making them think! Well, how might I accomplish that?
Well, watch the whole video! There are about 6 ways to do it!

My 6 year old has been with an online public charter School since pre-k. It's basically homeschool but they have requirements and then you can add your own things in also. I add a lot to our day that the school doesn't even require. After 3 years we have decided to do this on our own next year! It took me a while to be fully comfortable and gain the courage to do this but I think we are ready. I love the idea of living books but it's so new to me. I need to really look more into this! The things you mentioned remind me of my daughters curriculum for science that the online charter school requires. It's so so bad! It's an online program and it says things like this " engineers use tools. They use tools to help them". And then it gives her a multiple choice question like " what do engineers use?" And the choices are: people, pizza, tools, or hats" I'm not even kidding! It gives her one or two sentences of information and quizzes her. The multiple choice answers are so ridiculous that it almost gives her the answer. It doesn't teach her anything, it just makes random statements and wants her to memorize them. This is what woke me up to wanting to do this on our own. She isn't learning anything in science. We are finishing out the year with this school to make it easier to transition. 4 more months and we are completely on our own! I can't wait!

I could not imagine doing such silly busy-work. The way you described the curriculum, oi. Sometimes I wonder if people that write this curricula really think kids are incompetent dunces. Your kids are much brighter than that. Look up Charlotte mason style curriculums and deep-dive into that. It sounds like that’s the kind of thing you crave. -Andrea

You are from the last bit of folks I’d say that have a true notion of this concept. The more time passes, the idea is lost. They have a more diluted reality and no sense of true hardship. Great for us, comfort is a reward from the pain and struggle. But the pendulum always swings and I’d sure like my kids to be ready. Thank you for commenting ❤️❤️🙏🏼

Oh yes that would be great! I have a 4 yr old but he loves me to read to him. I am preparing and researching everything homeschool to be ready for this coming school year. I love the idea of learning and connecting with the story etc like you were talking about. I am absorbing all your wisdom and I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos!

@@jinaschilling5441 no worries at all, Jina. If you don’t mind I’d like to take some time to write a list from my 4 year old’s library. She’s asleep now, so I’ll be in there tomorrow. I can write a big list of books by ages. I’ll do ages 4, and 5 for you. In the “younger years” some books may not appear to be “living books” because some ideas are taught (ABCS and opposites, stories of good morals and values etc) but I’ve researched each book in my children’s library and I’ve hand-picked them for certain purposes. I am very batty that way 😆 I’ll post my reply to you here in the comments so anyone reading this can glean what they like from the list. -Andrea

Hey Andrea, thanks for making these videos. These are wonderful, and I can't wait to see more of them. I'd like your thoughts on how to turn uninterested kids into readers. I am struggling with my little boy. He's only a year old, but fidgets and squirms any time I try to sit him down to read anything...even picture books! Based on your experience and the many books you've read on child development, do you have any insight about tackling this issue?
@Youmayhavepeace
@Youmayhavepeace Жыл бұрын
Age 1 is expecting a lot! 2 of my 4 kids couldn’t be bothered to sit still for books so I’d say it’s very common and not to worry! It’s the perfect opportunity to cut out screen time if that’s a habit your family has! I’m going to make a video about that soon And truly a little screen here and there, I’ve used shows that aren’t stimulating or book read alongs on yt when I just could not 😆 But ages 0-4 even can be tricky I sometimes give them something to do (building blocks, rice bin, sand, play do) as I read to them
Retain all that you’re consuming!
