I was literally just drawing wondering how to deal with this exact issue. I was planning to use the absolute color of objects, then use some multiply/addition/i-dunno-i'll-figure-it-out-when-the-time-comes kinda mask layer on top of it to make them all fit the scene somehow. this seems like an infinitely more elegant solution, thank you!

Art is so hard to think about on a technical level for me; I think this will greatly help with my awful coloring. Thank you!
@shrimpfffffffft3 жыл бұрын
Learning to work with a limited color palate definitely allows you to be more resourceful with your colors and I think this is just as important as being able to accurately see which values are darker/lighter than each other when you draw objects with a multitude of hues and apply that to a black and white drawing

this helped!!! It never crossed my mind that that would be the way to replicate traditional paint mixing on a digital medium.

I have hear of a color map before but where I heard it, they didn't explain it as easy to understand as you just did so... thanks a lot! I recently started to want to color my sketches so this helped me very much

I'm pumped as hell to use this, while I love high saturated stuff for my silly cartoon art whenever I transition to more realistic stuff or comic stuff found myself doing what I called "painting by number shit" where everything was like...well how you explained it. I can't wait to give this a shot.

Fantastic, short, and actionable video on color theory. One thing I recommend is to buy watercolors and play with mixing and color gamut’s by using only a few colors. I prefer using a split primary palette with warm and cool versions of the primary colors. I recommend Winsor and Newton Cotman watercolor set of 12 colors. It’s not too expensive and great for learning color theory which transfers directly to digital.

This is really well explained through that example, and the lesson really shines through, those limited palette drawings are really eye-catching and individual. This is probably one of the simplest and most important coloring videos I have ever seen - excellent work to the creater.

Coolorus has a gamut mapper if folks use photoshop. Coolorus, Chameleon Addaptative Palette and Prisma Pallete are plugins I would recommend. Also Magenta is a lie... it does not exist except for in our heads.

I see... So if i use this kind of triangle then i don't have worry about the hue and saturation sliders but rather should only worry about the values of my painting and whether i got them correctly... i'll attempt this tonight but please correct me if i'm wrong....

hue, saturation, and value for properties of a colour, and gamut mapping for artificially limiting the scope of colours you use and walking the map toward a colour you may want even if it is not in the triangle. ok, these feel like good tips

The argument for color being westernized falls apart when you look at the psychology behind color pairings, triads etc. Visual communication speaks to the subconscious...

For me, the technical side of color theory doesn’t make sense to me when explained, but i still utilize its concepts, basic and complex without knowing it; just wanted to say for peoples who head spins when learning and treating it like a textbook; observing and breaking down pro artist works in your head, especially for me, is the best way to learn, letting you bring the knowledge to apply through trial and error into your pieces and studies Gl anyone reading it and just remember, if it was easy everyone would do it :)) Also great video, well broken down for my monky brain🦧
