DESCRIPTION:
Watch as Chris shows you how to install a bass shaker onto the bottom-side of a chair. This method can be applied to multiple different objects around your home so long as the bass shaker has area to be held down properly and is attached in such a way that the vibrations can effectively travel through to your object.
The human ear has the ability to hear a wide range of sounds, however, some sound is simply too low to hear and must be felt through the body. Feeling this extremely low frequency sound adds a new dimension to your listening, gaming, and movie experiences.
With a Dayton Audio BST-1 Bass Shaker installed in your home or auto sound system, you’ll feel those low bass notes or the thundering weight of a dinosaur’s foot slamming against the ground as it approaches. Your favorite action movies will come to life as you feel the cannon blasts and explosions impacting your body! If you’re into die-hard gaming the BST-1 Bass Shaker is the perfect addition to your gaming chair or couch! The power and impact of a football tackle puts you on the field and in the game! Feel the kick of your proton gun as it fires against the enemy!
Unlike subwoofers, the BST-1 Bass Shaker will not overload your listening area, and the perceived loudness of the BST-1 Bass Shaker improves listening at lower sound volumes. The engineers at Dayton Audio designed the BST-1 Bass Shaker to reproduce accurate, tactile sensations from your music and movie sound tracks. When a BST-1 Bass Shaker is installed on a resonant surface, it increases the portion of tactile sound as being "felt" beyond what is normally produced by subwoofers and ordinary speakers. Conventional subwoofers are traditionally considered optimized when you can feel rather than hear the bass. By using a BST-1 Bass Shaker in your system, this goal becomes easier to achieve -- enabling the subwoofer to perform at a more natural sound level.
A specially formulated nylon/fiber spider and the selection of quality hardware components allow the BST-1's internal motor structure to not only outperform the competition but increase the product lifespan. Simply put, with a Dayton Audio BST-1 Bass Shaker you can count on years and years' worth of amazing blasts, shakes, rolls, rattles, rumbles, thumps, bangs, and bumps!

Pro tip. When you drill a hole for wood screws, you want to bore out the hole in the top board larger than the screw's threads. If the threads grab both boards, you won't get a flush mount. If the threads only engage the bottom board, the head of the screw will press the top board against the bottom as it is tightened. That's why wood screws don't have threads on the shank.

Under extreme conditions they can get pretty hot, but that is only if you run them at full power continuously for a long period of time. For example with a 30 Hz pure tone at 50 watts for over an hour, they can get upwards of 150 degrees F. But that is hardly a real world situation unless you are just building a massage chair, lol. Even at that temperature there is no risk of fire. Under real world conditions they shouldn't get over 110 degrees F. There is a lot of heatsink area to dissipate the heat. With a metal frame chair/couch you will need to use some creativity to fabricate some sort of mounting plate.

Instead of wood screws, attach a board with nuts and bolts. Maybe add foam to the wood next to metal so it doesn't rattle. If you were worried about fire, don't have cloth near it. Just imagine it as a heater. There's not that much power going to it anyway. 50 watts is low. Most electric heaters are 500-2000 watts. I'd probably run a few of them on a couch.

Which Y adapter do I get? I cant seem to find one that has 3 males on the end. You need one male to go into the receivers lfe spot then you need the other 2 male ends to go into the left and right low level input. All I see are the 2 males to one female or 2 females and one male. What am I missing?
@PartsExpressOfficial
@PartsExpressOfficial 8 жыл бұрын
Most subwoofer amplifiers will accept either mono or stereo low level inputs. If your subwoofer amplifier does have an input labeled mono then you should be able to use a single RCA cable from your receiver to amplifier. If you do need a stereo (or dual mono) signal the you would generally use a 1 male to 2 female y-adaptor at the receiver and use a standard stereo RCA cable (male to male) from the y-adaptor to the subwoofer amplifier. If you have any other questions or for a little more clarification feel free to speak with one of our technicians at 1-800-338-0531.

I have an amp that is rated for 2-8 ohm, and I'd like to wire one of these bass shakers in parallel with a 6.5" 150 watt 4 ohm sub and have a 2 ohm load on the amp. The amp output is less than 100 watts (probably around 75 watts). I'd like to use both, the bass shaker and the sub with this one amp and not have to use two separate amps to drive both. Does this seem possible?
@DeliberateNRandom
@DeliberateNRandom Жыл бұрын
What you're going to run into running two different types of loads in parallel is you're limited by the lowest wattage component. So the bass shaker will max out before the subwoofer. If you don't plan to use the sub to its full capacity, then go ahead.

I have a JBL BASS20 Subwoofer. The manual says the output is 'Full Range Speakers'. Neither the speaker or the manuals say how many Ohms the output is. Can I use 4 Ohm Bass Shakers with this Subwoofer output? I assume 'Full Range Speakers' will output the high frequencies as well as low, which is not good? Thanks for any help. Here's a link to the manual: servlib.com/jbl/audio/bass-20.html?limit=4
@DeliberateNRandom
@DeliberateNRandom Жыл бұрын
From what I can tell on the last page, it looks like they're running the speakers in parallel and 8 ohms each, which would make them 4 ohms. So I would assume you're getting 150 watts RMS at 4 ohms. Typically, these amplifiers can run a lower load, so you might want to run two of them in series for 8 ohms, or be very cautious of the volume. Turn the frequency knob down all the way, turn it up to the preferred range if you're not getting all the bass frequencies because it's cutting it off.

Do I need to have a separate amp besides my home theater receiver to power these bass shakers? will my receiver's sub output be enough to power them?
@PartsExpressOfficial
@PartsExpressOfficial 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, you will need a separate amplifier. In most cases any amplifier with a low pass crossover will work, depending on the type of sub out your receiver has you may be able to any amplifier. The amount of power needed will depend on the number of bass shakers. One of our technicians will be happy to help you with some suggestions, please contact us at 1-800-338-0531.

The APA150 should be a solid choice. Even with Dayton Audio, Aura, or Buttkicker baseshakers.
@DarthHater100
@DarthHater100 7 жыл бұрын
+Luis Xavier Whether you need a separate amp depends on if you want to run a full surround-point-one setup at the same time or not. Like you can use extra back channels on your receiver for 2 channel music, running them full range. My base shaker's best value is in headphone listening. . . it really gives you that subwoofer layer missing with headphones. I just put the receiver in 7-channel-stereo and run them off the surround channels, which are duplicates the fronts in that setting. As a 'purist', you'd want to get an amp, but there are ways to make it work with just your receiver, especially for headphones or if you want to try them out before making a decision on what amp to get.

isnt connecting speakers in series or parallel mostly a no no?
@LordPrometheous
@LordPrometheous 5 жыл бұрын
No. Also, these are not speakers, they're bass shakers (electromechanical motors similar to speakers, but they do not produce audible sound). There is no other simple option if you have multiple speakers (or bass shakers). Whether it's done in series or parallel depends on which way best matches the total impedance of the circuit to the amplifier's requirements. You never want to go below your amp's rated impedance. Ie: If your amp can only handle a 4 ohm load minimum, you don't want to have your bass shakers or speakers wired in a way that drops the total circuit below that impedance (3, 2, 1 ohms, etc) Higher is safer and preferable, if you can't get a perfect match (you've got two 4-ohm shakers, and series gives you 8 ohms, parallel gives you 2 ohms, so parallel isn't an option with a minimum 4 ohm rated amp). I know it's a late response, but maybe it will help someone.
@DeliberateNRandom

It's mostly necessary to wire them that way. I don't know any situation where you shouldn't, as long as it's within specs of your amplifier.

It's all the same. It depends on your sound system. You could get one of those 2.1 system kits on here, build up the two speakers and run the sub output to this, or buy a 2.1 speaker set and replace the sub with one of these. I'd recommend getting smaller ones with the same impedance. It's probably an 8 ohm speaker, so if you can't find a shaker that's 8 ohms, get two at 4 ohms. Just wire them in series to match the wattage of the speaker you're removing.

Can you somehow wire this to a sound bar? With a wireless sub
@PartsExpressOfficial
@PartsExpressOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
It is possible as long as you can find a way to get a line level signal from the subwoofer. If the subwoofer or sound bar has a line out (RCA output) then it will be easy, just run that to the bass shaker amplifier. If there is no line out then it can be a little tricky. I suggest contacting our technical support staff for recommendations . :)
@DeliberateNRandom
@DeliberateNRandom Жыл бұрын
If your sound bar doesn't have RCA output or a wireless subwoofer you don't plan on using, it will be tricky. Basically, you need a line output converter or amp with high level input. I don't know about home audio, but for car audio you would need a 12V adapter and the L.O.C. Then you can run RCAs to your amplifier. If you get an amplifier with high level input, then just run the lines back to the sound bar. Either of these ways is probably more complicated than just getting a receiver or sound bar with a subwoofer output.

Do these wirelessly work with soundbars or do you need an actual reciever?
@DeliberateNRandom
@DeliberateNRandom Жыл бұрын
You would need some kind of amplifier. Preferably, a subwoofer amplifier. If you get a regular home audio subwoofer, you can just pull the speaker out and run wires to the bass shaker. Make sure the speaker is the same ohm rating as the subwoofer. You will need to turn the gain down all the way for testing or you'll blow the shaker. I'll either use one of my spare amps and mount everything under my bed. If your sound bar has a low frequency output, you would hook it to that. If you had a sound bar with a wireless subwoofer, you could remove the speaker and run wires to it. You could also look for some sort of wireless audio transmitter and connect them from the sound bar to the amplifier if you don't want the wires, but there could be issues with not just using wiring from the receiver if it's not meant for low level output.
