The bathrooms being featured in this video can easily fetch 50-100k, which include - design, permits and all construction overhead. Not to mention who ever you hire has to make some money. No one works for free! You can easily do a very simple/small bathroom without a permit for less than 10k 😂

Thanks for the comment! I’ve known people who’ve done shows like flip and flop, and the budget/cost info on the show is partially made up. Suppliers give deep discounts on products to have them be featured in the show. Geography also plays a major role in labor costs for different trades. For instance, tile install is much less expensive in Arizona than it is in the Pacific Northwest where we are.

Heck i am pricing a bathroom addition to my house, which will be adding square footage to my house. I want a one piece surround shower, a toilet, a vanity with sink, nothing fancy. I have 2 estimates so far for approx $35-40,000. And if i understand correctly, i will only get 50% back in the sale of my house, when or if i sell it

I’m looking at adding an addition to a brick house fora master bath and I’m at about $35K with most of that going to the tile and the roof. Granted, I’m doing over 75% of the work myself (contracting the roof, roof framing tie in, electrical, windows, and masonry work.

Great vid! All the folks shocked by pricing most likely don’t understand the full picture, so that seems pretty darn expensive at first glance! Keep in mind, they just touched on pricing in this video, there’s a lot of factors that come into play in that regard. Being a PNW native myself, I know that you’ll spend about 2-3x as much on materials than you would in the Midwest. There’s also a huge demand for contractors currently and so the cost to get projects like this done by a pro are driven up by the market. Take everything with a grain of salt, and don’t expect your process to fit exactly what these channels tell you.

Lol I just had a contractor over and I was quoted only 10k to add a half bath.. 15k to add full bath in basement. That’s a big difference to 60-90k

I do not care if you are adding this bathroom to 1-Million dollar home or 300k dollar home. 100k or anything above 50k is not where that should be even with high quality materials. This video is useless for estimates of that kind. Please present a bathroom that someone paid you 100k dollar for it.

We find that that particular length of time is a good estimate for the types of bathrooms we do, especially considering an bathroom addition or expansion where other factors are involved. For pricing- Portland has a really high cost of living which translates into the price. We get that everyone is different and has different needs, and that's ok!

There are a few things to consider when adding a bathroom. Is there plumbing close by or will you have to route to that section of your home? Will it make the room too small? Adding a bathroom to your home will add value, but you'll want to run the costs to see if the cost you put in, will be less than the value it will add. It can seem like a lot! We find though that this is from data we see due to our location (Portland has a very high cost of living) and the extent of the remodel. Completely new bathrooms or things like expansions and brand new fixtures can add up. We always try to work with our clients and find solutions that fit within their budget- hope that helps!
