Because the rest of the armour would not move along correctly they need be rigged other wise it looks off, you can try it

I don't rigging is an entirely different process, I actually hired someone on fiverr to rig my armour set for me to the ue5 mannquinn ( not this one it's free online )

But if say you had diffent character you would just want to rig it to that character, although it may be more possible because cause unreal engine new retargetting system make it easy to retarget animations and there tools to automatically rig things I would need to explore it more

Can you make it modular? I’m having trouble with body clipping through the armor. Could we make it go that when each piece of armor is equipped, that part of the body becomes invisible? I realize it would probably mean each body part would have to be its own mesh so each one can disappear separately

you could make a distorted material and surround the head by it, make it so the owner can't see the distortion.

Yes it's because this armour for metahuman, I made mine slightly bigger, although this is just to showcase, because in your game your character would probably have custom armour set for them

there are already dozens of tutorials on youtube that show you how to do exactly this. why not try something a bit different? how about using the same armor on different body sizes (male vs female, fat vs skinny, tall vs short, etc).
