IMPORTANT NOTE: The file path of assets is incredibly important, and the chances are if this doesn't work for you, it's because of the structure of your folders. This page gives a great detailed breakdown of the necessary structure: old.reddit.com/r/wonderdraft/wiki/userfolder The other thing that people have issues with frequently is not being able to color assets. In your user folder where you've placed the assets you should see a text file called ".wonderdraft_symbols". If you DON'T see that, open Wonderdraft as an admin which should force it to be created. In the year or so since my last version of this tutorial was released we've still not got a city-draft, which makes me very sad! I think the time has come for me to investigate making my own city assets and putting together a video on how to actually create the assets for wonderdraft!

Excellent stuff man. The running as administrator was it for me. Also, when you open Wonderdraft you have to open a map, then click Assets at the top, and then check the new folders. Dunno if you mentioned that and I just missed it, but yeah, that's a piece too.

Watched both your videos and after 3 hours, I still cannot get this to work. How hard can it be just to install some custom mountains!!!??? Running as admin, check. Downloaded example folder, check. Copied mountain assets into mountain folder, check. Does wonderdraft see them? Hell no. Is there some other esoteric piece of lore you need in order to install hills/mountains?

Question. The text document that you show in your video generated in my folder, but it doesn't seem to be a text document. Apparently I don't have the correct app to open the file. Any help you can offer would be so great. Thank you for this great tutorial!

Try running WD as an admin, which should generate the text file, then you can use notepad to open that file.

Pretty late but I had encountered the same problem and solved it by simply renaming the file with a .txt at the end, edited it and then renamed it back to it's original name. I hope this helps.

Hello again! Just wanted to say thank you for your help and that everything is showing now. I do have a question about the info files. I've always ran my wonderdraft in admin, in fact i run most programs as admin, but I noticed that i never had any info files generated. Is there any way to force them to generate so I could change my watabu stuff so it'll be custom colors?

That's bizarre. Usually they do generate when you run in admin. If you can see the assets in the program, try placing some down then exiting out and see if that has helped. If you don't have any luck with that check out the support channel of Megasploot's discord and hopefully someone will have had a similar experience.

I'm so frustrated. I have the assets in and working for the most part, but I can't figure out how to change the color on them at all. When I load Wonderdraft as admin, it still isn't generating a text file for me to edit at all. I just want my assets to blend in with my map and I can't seem to make it work.

a question on coloring... whenever ive colored a part of a vanilla uncolored wonderdraft symbol it immediately colors the entire symbol as one color. So im not able to color the roof one color, and the walls of a house another. Maybe im missing something simple here? also in an older watabou video you saved time when coloring your city by using default colors. I dont remember there being a lot by default when i last booted it up. Is there somewhere i can download color packs similar to how we can do for symbol assets and whatnot?

Hey, just followed your vid instructions, and it worked a treat. New Map:Assets shows my Custom Assets, cool. Only thing is, in your video, after opening WD and starting a new map, you choose the youtube test set. How? I don't seem to have an option to choose a custom set I just installed so that these are the only sprites being shown. It structures are in the list, but then so are all the others. Everything.

so weird....so im able to see the symbols i added to the folders, in wonderdraft, and i edited the notepad file with the custom_colors label, and have the appropriate filters for coloring on. Yet still i can only color the land under the symbol and not the symbol itself. Not even the custom color on the top right works

Hello, please help, my Wonderdraft won't show assets. When starting a new map I don't see a column Assets (just Map Size). But when I start map in columns above, called Assets I see my Custom Assets Pack Folder Name) and it's checked. But, when I open the SYMBOLS dropdown menu SET, I doesn't show my CUSTOM pack FOLDER . Why? The folder structure is fine: Roaming/Wonderdraft/assets/custom pack folder/sprites/symbols/png file

That's a strange one! Best thing to do is ask in the wonderdraft section of the megasploot discord. The folks there should be able to help :D

I realize my dumbass typed MyAssests (extra s) instead of Myassets. That one typo months ago has caused me so much fucking stress. Double check your spelling everyone.

I've been struggling with AoA assets for hours now! Followed all the tutorials I can find to the letter and they just do not appear!

I had issues too, but I'll help you all out! You need to go into the zip like usual, but make sure you go INTO the AoA folders (in my case, it was the folder labeled AoA_Volcanos_Pencil), and then open the folder called sprites. Open the next folder (mine was mountains), then the FINAL folder (AoA_Volcanoes_Pencil or AoA_VolcanoSmoke_Pencil in my case) to get to the png files. THOSE are what you need to extract to the wonderdraft asset folder. In short; open zip, then folder, folder, folder, and folder to get to the shiny clack-clacks within.

So I did everything here and still couldn't see custom symbol sets. The only way I could see downloaded mountain and tree assets was if I made an individual folder for each png. So I tried unchecked the default "symbol" category under assets in Wonderdraft, and only then could I see the custom sets I added in the sprites/symbol folder. But when I rechecked it, I couldn't select the custom sets anymore. Anyone have any idea how I can see both?? Edit: So it turns out when I use the search function, the symbols come up, but I it hides the set listing so I can't select to see just that set, which means renaming each png with the set name so it comes up via search. Anyone have any solution? Thanks!

As far as I know WD uses humble bundle to provide the download link, so you should find it in your humble library with whatever email you used when you made the purchase on the WD website.

@@IcarusGames that file directory is still what`s listed in all the related help and faq topics on the discord, down to just a few days ago and it's still what the app requires as of today. It took nearly an hour of sifting through windows 10 help threads to get this hidden folder revealed and by that time I'd used up all the free time I had to spare on this nonsense it feels needlessly byzantine for a program that purports to be user friendly to require this much work to just import a few free assets

If you want something with similar full color options check out Inkarnate, dungeonfog, or dungeon painter studio. Hope you find an option that works for you!

Agreed. How can someone make such a good mapping program, and still require such a picky, ridiculous folder structure? It doesn't make sense. I'm about ready to move on, as well.
