If I did this to Aftermarket clear controllers you think I could splice into the incoming cables from the console? Or would there be a way to test the board to find out which are positive and negative?

A multimeter, but I doubt the pins are in a different order so I'd just follow this tutorial as is.

hey antonio! thanks i appreciate it! the LEDs i used where 3mm blue flat tops www.ebay.com/itm/3mm-Blue-Flat-Top-Ultra-Bright-Wide-Angle-LED-50-Pieces-/271863314415?hash=item3f4c50f7ef:g:9mcAAOSw7NNULHtU you dont need to use a flat top led it really doesnt matter, the flat tops just give off a wider angle beam then normal Leds. also for wire i would recommend 30 AWG

I understood how to use 1 470hms resistor and 3mm 1.8V leds in red color, like other ports I have not tried because I do not know very well about kkk, I am following your design.

Hi, I have a question. Would my n64 be okay if I modded all 4 of my clear controllers along with the n64 already being led modded with 4 leds? Or is that too much stress on my system?
@TechnoOnTop
@TechnoOnTop 6 жыл бұрын
iv heard of people having issues with LED's not all lighting up, but iv never encountered it myself iv had all 4 controllers led modded with no problems. personally i wouldnt worry to much

Matt dh what size are you using and what color? Iv did this to a few different controllers and I found I had some 5mm whites that didn't work, and some 3mm yellow, are you using resistors? The game pad gets very little power, do they react the same in day controller port 2-3-4?

So I attached the LED's but my 64 pick up the controller anymore. My other controllers work just find, so it isn't the controller port. Any idea where I messed up?
@TechnoOnTop
@TechnoOnTop 7 жыл бұрын
what size, color and amount did you use? i found while doing more controllers that some colors made the controller not work because they where pulling do much current. i would first try disconnecting them. if your controller works then either try some smaller or use less LEDs. if it still doesnt work you may of shorted something and fried the controller

I have a clear purple N64 controller that I'd like to refurb with a new analog stick sometime (damn Mario Party wore out my original stick, lol), I'm willing to bet that some purple LED's would make it look super cool while I'm doing that. Btw, did you check out my message on your discussion page about the N64 mod? I can understand if your busy so no rush. :)

My stick is worn tf out on all my controllers, I had to put sewing thread in the joystick to keep me playing for now. Racing games are crap tho, and walking in sensitive places in ocarina is a bitch 😂

te resistor is only to low the brightness?
@TechnoOnTop
@TechnoOnTop 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm pretty sure the source is some really low like 3v's so you can get away with not using resistors... even with the resistors it's extremely bright.

+luther303 not much the power your connecting LEDs to is 3.3v. i had some white LEDs that my console couldnt power. a quick and easy test to see if a particular LED will work or not is turn on the console take your positive leg of the LED and place it in the left most hole for player 1 (console controller port) the put your negative in the farthest right for player one (www.raphnet.net/electronique/gcn64_usb_adapter_gen3/gc_n64_pinouts.png) check that image if you need help. also do this at your own risk it never ruined my stuff but i cant guarantee it wont cause harm

+TechnoOnTop Thanks mate, I appreciate the quick response! I ended up sorting it out. They were 5mm leds and for some reason they wouldn't power up from one to the next like you did, only when I connected them to a 12v cordless drill battery. I ended up soldering two wires to the negative and positive and soldering resistors to each led and the running all 8 wires from the 4 leds to the two wires. A friend of mine borrowed my N64 and returned it today. I jumped the gun and wired it all up last night before he returned it lol Re wiring it all today gave me an excuse to change the wires to thinner wires too, because it was painful trying to get the case to shut last night. Appreciate your help dude.

This is probably a Stupid question, but does this method work with Multi Colored Leds?
@TechnoOnTop
@TechnoOnTop 7 жыл бұрын
J Meister if your taking about the self contained rainbow leds then yes, they have a controller built into them. But Rgb leds typically need some type of controller. So if the leds have a positive and a negative then your good

Thanks alot for the tutorial! i made an extreme green led modded controller :P with 8 leds! turned out great! You can see it here if you want. nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=7&threadid=167854&StartRow=13#bottom btw i tried your method of putting the metal led leg in the back of the controller but it kept shorting so i just did two wires off the top. i also angled the leds up top for better coverage. and used 24 gauge clear speaker wire to blend better
