Should have made them internally captive. Just need a cavity and a pause to pop them in while they are printing. No glue required.

4:30 "There's easier ways to do everything I do most likely." -Joel I'm sure that extends to this sort of thing as well. Although not having to pause the machine, Joel's way in this video, may be easier in this case.
@hotaru8309
@hotaru8309 5 жыл бұрын
Depending on how you feel about pausing and how much your magnet likes your nozzle, it might not work out as cleanly. I think the magnets will work through most materials though, so your idea is certainly an understandable plan.
@TheThursty100
@TheThursty100 5 жыл бұрын
That's how I did it. The problem is, while the Nozzle isn't magnetic, the cooling vent I have on my hot end is. And if I don't align the print correctly, or press the magnet down with the tweezers for the first layer, the magnet will attach to the vent, which is no bueno. That said, I wanted to print a new Hotend housing anyways, and as of now, regular old PLA isn't magnetic
@CJICantLie

@@TheThursty100 I have seen suggestions to print a cap for over the magnet and have the pause be a bit further up to fit that cap. You put the magnet and the cap in at the pause and it can resume with a material it sticks to as well as limit the magnetic issues.

Great video! I particularly liked 1. Your beginning to explore meshmixer. I too have been intimidated by meshmixer's complexity and a video like this shows what it can do that other tools maybe can't and provides an on-ramp 2. Bring sure to mention getting someone else's permission before using their stuff. There is a range of experience in our community, so some might think that it's obvious while others might never think to do it

Good vid Joel, I especially liked your more detailed approach to recording how you use MeshMixer, and also the detailed approach to Slic3r PE. I think it shows many inexperienced users some key tips, and also not to be afraid to "just try it", as it was obvious even you had/have some "ummmm...sure......, that''ll work....." moments :) It's videos like this that give a lot of ppl invaluable knowledge in this hobby. Keep it up!

This is a great review of BUILD TECH SHEETS the magnets are ceramic because only ceramic and alnico and only epoxy which is brittle and silicone rubber adhesives can take 375 F. So they didn't get the message on adhesives. A few other adhesives get close but no margin of safety left. They chose cost over reliability.

Hi Joel to improve the quality of boolean difference you generally need to increase the mesh density of the primitives. Turn on wireframe view and select some of the vertices of the box object. Then select modify->select all then remesh to make more faces. After this, the boolean difference will give you better results. Sometimes you need to remesh the object you are cutting too depending on how many faces it's got.

@@3DPrintingNerd Yeah no problem; I went through a lot of iterations yesterday trying to carve some simple v slots into the base of a model to improve bed adhesion on my Anycubic Photon by breaking up the base into smaller areas that would be less prone to warping. The spheres were making a great cut, but the box and cylinder were just awful, especially when stretched out. Remeshing totally fixed it. I did also get a lot of crashing with Meshmixer as well. Sadly this is not an area where it is a very strong tool.

Atari ET T-Shirt for the win! Is this the second style of ET-T-Shirt you have worn in a video. I think I remember one other one. I was going to point out that you probably want the magnet hole to be not quite as deep as the magnet so it will stick out a bit and have better contact with the fridge, but it looks like you adjusted that for some of the examples. I know there is nothing wrong with my printer since other prints works just fine, but as soon as I design and try to print something narrow and a bit high, it fails just miserable ... Tried placing the model in different angles, changing speeds, infills, supports, wall thickness, all I could think of. Would very much appreciate a new perspective on this phenomena ... Magnets don't like heat. You can demagnetize any manufactured magnet by exposing it to enough heat for enough time. For this reason, I wouldn't try the magnetic build plates. I know they will eventually fail. Rare Earth magnets are notoriously subject to demagnetizing at lower temperature than ferrite magnets. Cobalt holds up to a bit higher temperature than neodynium (neodymium is the type used in most RC hobby brushless motors) ******************** In USA, you can get packages of neodymium appx 1/4 inch diameter appx 1/8 inch thick magnets cheaply at "Harbor Freight" Very good to insert into your small 3D prints. Make your D&D minis stay firmly in place by having a metal sheet under the battlemat. Put a magnet in the base.
