So easy to upgrade the memory on the Dell Inspiron 15 3521 model. Great video. I just updated my Dell Inspiron 15 3521 laptop from 4GB to 12GB with an 8GB PNY Technology DDR SODIMM 1600 MHZ RAM. The laptop application and response time has improved dramatically. BTW, as of this post, I only paid $42 for the 8GB of RAM. I'm still surprised at how much cheaper RAM is today, as compared to years ago...

Yes. You can upgrade this laptop to 16GB of RAM. Each memory module can support up to 8GB of RAM. The Dell Inspiron 3521 model (this particular model) has two memory modules which can support up to 8GB of RAM in EACH memory module. This brings a total to 16GB of RAM of total system memory with both RAM slot filled to max.

16gb is bit overkill unless you are you video editting. I was planning on getting 8gb for my dell 15 3251, majing a total of 12gb. But can you tell me where you got your 16gb kit ( 2×8gb) kit? Plus if you go on crucial.com it says the 3251 can handle 16gb.

I just purchased two separate 8gb to increase my ram to 16gb on my inspiron 15R 5521. But everytime I boot up its only showing 8 gb installed, and when I do a system scan from crucial.com it says only 1 of my 2 slots if filled, my other is empty. i've reinstalled it 5 times already and it still results the same....any ideas?

Dell support says 8GB max for 3521. You installed 16GB; that's over capacity per the technical specifications. Any issues you faced after this upgrade?

Depends on the motherboard. Go on to Dell website , enter your model in there and you can download the documentation related to your model . It will have all the information needed for upgrades.

Hey there Tech Steve, i have the i3 version of this laptop and was wondering if I upgraded the Ram to the 16gb as you suggested (from the factory 4gb) would this be able to run lower end games like Dayz, Arma 3 and the like decently? Anupam prime It’s not possible. Cos’ the 3542 has only one RAM slot. Think of putting an 8GB RAM (DDR3L) would be preferable.

Get an SSD 2.5 inch, get ram ddr3 of upto 8gb, Dell says maximum upto 8gb but you could try 8gb * 2 and make sure they are below 1600MHz not more than that.Your laptop will run butter smooth.

@@omarshiha3965 Yes, DDR3L is compatible with DDR3 based systems. However, DDR3 is not forwards with DDR3L based systems, if the system requires DDR3L then installing DDR3 may not work.

If I upgrade to 16GB will the system bios not be able to recognize 16GB ? Does it have a limitation ? and will it have negative effects on my PC ?

Krishnendu Bose when i installed it in my computer it was much faster and I didn't see any errors. However I bought the ram from www.frys.com/ local store and checked there return policy. No guarantees tho. You could bump up to 8 gigs and install a Solid State drive if you need performance and speed and stay in the requirements.
