Hey! I'm Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is deeply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label (dropped 6 months later) and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my KZbin channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, KZbin channel and I work directly with labels internationally alongside owning a live agency and management company.

Problem is, I think they are just too short if anything. If you got a 5 minute song, a 15 second video on repeat is going to get very boring very quickly.

No one is going to sit and watch the video, but it engages the viewer/listener quickly - they know it's a loop and will move from it but if it keeps them on the song for an extra 5 seconds, then that might be enough to grab their attention and engage with the song (like, share, add to playlists, etc). As most songs don't have one, it seems more professional or larger than what it is so you can stand out more. One more point is that the video, if it's relevant to the song, can give the listener a visual idea/mood/feeling of what the song is about before the song truly starts - this can help them vibe to it more and maybe even stay longer.

I agree. It seems like yet another hoop to jump through, and it feels very gimmicky indeed. Having said that, it's there so we might as well make the best of it.

Done. I must say it has to be EXACT 9:16 ratio, and Premiere Pro tries to round this off a bit, so during export you have to tell it to do manual 9:16 ratio or 720x1280 and then it works. PITA with Premiere.

Totally right and informative like always, I would ad two things: it's sometimes easier to upload by using your cell instead the computer (don't know why, but I made the experience). And another thing, Spotify is strict with Copyright issues, so you can't use any video pictures you haven't got the rights to.
