How do I prune the Monstera's thick trunk. I want to shift my plant to a better place but the trunk is long and twisted with few leaves. Help!
@Mycityplants9 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching! You may prune your Monstera plant back to any desired width. Not to shock your plant too much, cut the stem in a few attempts - once every 10-14 days. Make each cut above a node. Save the top part of the stem with the node, place it in water to propagate. All other leaves can be cut off as you go and placed in a vase as a nice leaf arrangement. These leaves will last long time, just remember to refresh the water frequently. Green Cheers!

What if the one stem that needs to be raised has extended far beyond the pot? I don't want to lose that stem because it has gorgeous big leaves, but want to have it grow upward instead.
@Mycityplants Жыл бұрын
Hi! It is not always possible to raise a stem when it is matured and not flexible ... Don't be afraid to prune your plants to keep them in the desired shape. If you cut this leaf together with the "knot", you can place it in water and, when new roots show up, potted in the same pot or in a new pot. Green Cheers & Thank you for watching 🌱

This is the most helpful monstera video Ive seen, thankyou. I have a question about pot size. How many plants can you fit in 30cm diameter pot? Is depth of the pot important? How big were the pots in this video?
@Mycityplants Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching! Yes, the depth of a pot is important. larger plants have larger root system - pot should be deeper. smaller plants have smaller root system and the pot should not be as deep as for larger plants. 30cm diameter planter will be a great fit for: - Single 20-23 cm pot diameter of a Monstera plant Depth should be at least approx. 25 cm and no more than 30 cm - Combining 2 plants each 12.7 cm pot diameter Depth should be at least approx. 17 cm and no more than 22 cm ** The planter we use in this video is 33 cm diameter. Green Cheers and Happy Growing!

Sometimes a day after i water the plant i see little drops of water on the leaves. Did i gave it to much water? ..
@Mycityplants3 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching! The droplets of water you’re seeing on the leaves are likely due to a natural process called guttation, rather than overwatering. This occurs when a plant absorbs more water than it can immediately use, and the excess moisture is released through small pores, called hydathodes, on the edges or tips of the leaves. Guttation is especially common when: - Humidity is high or the air is relatively cool, as this can slow down evaporation. - The soil is very moist, which is often after watering, causing more water uptake than usual. - There’s low transpiration (water loss from leaves), such as during nighttime or early morning. While it’s not usually a cause for concern, you may want to ensure that your plant’s pot has proper drainage and that you’re watering based on the plant’s needs rather than on a set schedule. Adjusting to slightly less frequent watering can sometimes reduce the occurrence of guttation, though it’s a normal process for many plants. I would recommend using the Soil Moisture meter to help you to establish a proper watering frequency for your plants. Learn more about how to use this tool here: mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-use-soil-moisture-meter/ Green Cheers!

Can a schefflera amate be planted in complete pon?. I do have a schefflera arboricola that has been in all pon for a year now, and it loves the pon, growing like crazy. Could you please give me your thoughts. All pon or to leave in soil and cover all around with pon?. Thank you so much.
@Mycityplants Жыл бұрын
Hi Kay, Any plant can be potted just in PON. The reason we do not use PON for large plants in that the pot becomes too heavy to handle. Green Cheers! 🌱

Thank you, our monstera is out of control and this is SO helpful! Hopefully we can contain it until spring when I cut it back as you instructed :) 2 Questions for you (or anyone who knows is more familiar with monstera pruning than me!) -- 1. Do you ever cut the areal roots when you prune? Mine are growing all over the place. 2. When staking the plant, do you ever tie the stem to the bamboo up higher, as well as next to the base? As in, do you tie it to multiple spots on the bamboo stick? Wondering if this would inhibit growth or be ok if it needs more support. (same question for my leaning bird of paradise, I just watched your vid on that too!) Thanks so much, I just subscribed and am looking forward to learn from more videos on your channel :)
@Mycityplants Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching and subscribing! Monstera Plant Yes, you may cut those aerial roots. Yes, you may tie stems up higher and at the base - just remember to check on those areas frequently and loosen up the ribbon/raffia, or move it over it to a different spot if it gets too tight for a stem. Bird Of Paradise Plant The same goes for tying stems of this plant. You may see how to in this video: bit.ly/3inszEo Green Cheers!
