Description:
The easiest way to adjust and fine-tune your gears is to reset the trigger, remove the chain and release the derailleur cable. That is the neutral point for the adjustment.
Reset the trigger.
Shift to the highest gear -- smallest sprocket.
Screw the fine adjustment screw all the way in and then a few clicks back.
Remember to remove the chain and release the derailleur cable.
There are two adjustment screws on the back of your derailleur. Use the top screw to set the outermost position of the derailleur. Push the derailleur toward the spokes and use the lower screw to set the innermost position.
With that set mount the chain back on the bike. We use chain links because it is more convenient than Shimano's pin system.
Now it's time to attach the cable. Gently pull on the cable and fix it in place. Don't pull too hard, just enough to feel the tension.
Run through the gears a couple of times and use the adjustment screw on the trigger to fine-tune your gears.
If it's all done correctly your chain should run smoothly through all the gears.
Most common problem with gears not shifting properly is bent derailleur hanger or derailleur cage itself.
