Hello. Tell me, does Salomon Shift have an adjustment of the position of the ski mount head (forward-backward along the ski)?

@foxred2556, The Shift toe piece is fixed on the ski and the heel piece can move about 15mm bigger or smaller from the original mounting position. That means you can totally change boots and adjust the heel to fit.

I read somewhere that Salomon had reduced the AFD gap from 0.5mm to 0.1mm. My boot toe moves up & down slightly even when adjusted tighter this gap, and is denting/marking up the binding arm rollers. And that's with the boot toe pulled up hard up against the underside of the front binding arms & forward pressure properly adjusted. I've seen lots of pictures of marked up rollers on the net, suggesting this is not an unusual problem. And I've noticed that the AFD has some spring to it, when pressured, which seems the source of the movement. As such what else is there to be done? Just accept the AFD is flawed?

Sounds like you should bring your skis to a shop and have a pro check them out!

You jumped right in to where the boot fits the binding, and skipped the part about adjusting the bindings to the boot length, which is what I need.

I changed to a smaller boot. 10mm smaller sole length. So I just keep thightening the binding until the forward pressure indicators are lining up? I did so, and the binding seems to be really tight even tho I didn't change DIN settings from my previous (9)

It’s always good to get your bindings torque tested at a certified shop if you feel like something is wrong. They can test operations and release to make sure things work properly.

@@TheSkiMonster Why do you make a guide about the bindings if you won't provide information about them? I meant to ask do you have to start measuring it with a measuring tape when switching boot sizes or does the forward pressure indicator tell you directly when the binding is adjusted to the required length. You don't need to feel like having responsibility about someone elses binding. If the forward pressure indicator does not tell the right adjustment lengthwise, then just state it.

Really disagree with the afd setup here. The afd is actually indexed rather than a continuous adjustment. After speaking to a lot of ski techs and shift owners, they all recommend setting the afd as tight as it will go, then dropping it back half a turn so that when you pressure it, it will go to the nearest index. That adjustment has worked for me the last few years and ive had reliable releases during big crashes and very few pre releases. This is personal experience though and im not a professional, go talk to a tech if anyone is worried about it

We go based off the manual the manufacturer supplies and information provided by the product managers. Definitely always best to see to see a certified ski tech. In most cases, people have had issues with the Shift AFD because the boot was not properly set up in the binding during install. The boot cuff should be knocked or pulled back firmly to seat the toe lug high up under the toe wings; then the AFD should be adjusted. Cranking that AFD height all the way increases the amount of force required to release laterally from the toe, and not always for the better… not all skiers need to be welded to their skis.
