What about 2001 Polaris rmk 800 (it has the body of the 800 but re placed with 600 motor and been rebuilt recently) gen 2 rmk is there a oli pump adjustment screw on it? Cause she’s not sounding right fouling plugs smoks way to much he’ll shr barely wants to go past 10 mph it’s bad
@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich Жыл бұрын
It's been awhile since I've worked on an oil pump but from what I remember and what you are explaining is that you don't have your oil pump set properly. There is no adjustment screw on the oil pump. It is adjusted by cable tension. There should be a line on the oil pump actuator lever that should line up with a straight line that is on the oil pump housing itself. I believe the procedure is to set up your idle speed first so that your sled idles properly and then adjust your oil pump actuator lever line to line up perfectly with the line on the housing.

4. Remove the throttle cable in order to take the slack out of the cable. 5. Remove the connector from the TPS on the throttle body and install TPS sensor tool on to the TPS. 6. Measure and record the voltage reading at idle. Should be close to .930 volts. 7. Back off the idle lock nut counterclockwise and then back out the idle adjuster counter clockwise until the screw tip separates from the adjusted lever tab.

It may help a little but the main problem would be your jetting in the carb. You need to find out at what RPM your having the lean knock and adjust (Richen) that jet accordingly

Sorry Niko, this way will not work on your sled. The 800 in the Assault is a Cleanfire Injection engine. Your engines TPS is set using a different method. The voltage from the tps is set at idle not WOT. I'll try to post a "How-to"

3. Insert the red voltmeter lead into the terminal above the pink wire, and the black meter lead to the terminal above the black wire. Slowly open throttle and check for smooth voltage change. NOTE: The Fluke meter will change scales and show O.L. momentarily when throttle is opening.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe that you need to reprogram the CDI to change the fuel mixture. If you haven't done ant mods to the Indy then I think I would be looking for other causes. For ex... Dirty injectors or filter, bad fuel pump or what I think it could possibly be is a bad crank seal sucking in air and leaning out your fuel mixture.

@robi0305 I learned it directly from one of Polaris's R&D guys who has been Racing, Designing, Reserch, Development, Building and Testing Polaris Sleds for over 40 years. So when he says that the optimum setting for your TPS is 4.0Volts then you better belive it's 4.0V tested and true. Sure you can play with the voltage a bit because every sled is a little different.. In the end "to me" Barry R&D guy knows best.

8. Loosen screws on the TPS sensor. 9. Adjust the TPS sensor until the voltage on the volt meter reads .709 to.711 volts. 10. Tighten the TPS retaining screws, making sure that the voltage continues to read .709 -- .711 volts. 11. Turn the idle set screw clockwise until the voltage reads .930 volts. 12. Voltage at the yellow terminal should be .920 -- .940 volts at idle. Once the TPS voltage is verified and set, remove the sensor tool and re--install the TPS harness.

@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 10 жыл бұрын
The voltage to supply TPS comes from the CDI box, the voltage is programmed by the manufacturer. You can test the voltage by pinning the wires with your volt meter while the sled is running. The 5 volts is more so for calibrating the TPS

Hi, i have a 2006 RMK 600 HO. At WOT in cant get it over 7500 rpm, sometimes no higher than 6500 rpm. Carbs are cleaned, exhaust valves ar cleaned and checked, cylinders and pistons are mint. Could a faulty TPS cause this? it seems like it hits top rpm, it runs flawless up to the point were i can't get more rpm.
@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 9 жыл бұрын
The TPS doesn't control engine RPM, it only relay's the throttle inputs from throttle plate to the ECM and or ICM. Your problem to me sounds a lot more like it has to do with your clutches binding up and not fully shifting out to achieve maximum speed and RPM. Dirty clutches, worn clutches, worn belt and belt deflection will cause sporadic engine RPM at WOT. Also snow conditions can also have an effect on your RPMs at WOT. Hard pack and ice your RPMs will be higher than in fresh deep fluff. This is more prominent in smaller machines ex 500-600cc

Hey The BCSledder, The black wire from the flukemetre is being grounded to the black wire from the power supply which is connected to the bottom pin on the TPS. 2006 Fusion 600. Goofy misfire on the Mag side at idle. Carb, exhaust valve, wires, plugs all good. Hitt the throttle and it is ALL there. Could this be the TPS? Thanks very much!
@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 9 жыл бұрын
Highly unlikely that it would be caused by the TPS if its only affecting the one cylinder. It can be a hole multitude of different issues creating that specific problem. If it was my machine I'd pull the carb again, give it good cleaning! Inspect the Reed Valves. Swap plugs from left to right to see if there's a different. Next I'd be looking at an air leaks around the power valves, reed valves, carb boots and finally mag side seal!

PolarisRich Thanks for getting back to me. New plugs, new wires, caps good, power valve clean and free, jets clean, idle screws set about 1.8 turns crank seals replaced, new pistons and rings, has impressive power once the clutch is engaged. When the engine was put back in the stator wire was hooked to the temp sensor and fried it. New temp sensor installed. There is ample fuel getting to the cylinder. It has run about 150 miles since the rebuild. I pulled the power valve last night thinking it could be stuck open. Very free. When the rubber was lifted, there is black oil/gas residue behind, but again this is being caused by the idle misfire. I could switch the plug wires, but I don't know if this fires both plugs at the same time. (My Polaris Starfire fired 3 times per revolution.) This sled has 6000 miles, absolutely no salt rash, and has been well taken care of. Again if you hit the throttle is shakes up the boys on bigger sleds. Oh it has a Starting Line air box mod, and is running 420 mains.
@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 9 жыл бұрын
whitepinehost Sounds like you may have a lean condition on that one cylinder. Could be caused by the airbox mod. Hard to diagnose without actually seeing the sled. What's the compression at in both cylinders when cold? What's do the spark plugs look like? Is there a color difference!
@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 9 жыл бұрын
Also when you cleaned the Power Valves did you clean the decompression hole on the cylinder? Its about 1/4" above the Power Valve sleeve.
@whitepinehost
@whitepinehost 9 жыл бұрын
PolarisRich Hi there. It is rich. I switched plug wire, no difference. I turned in the low speed needle half a turn, no difference. Compression is the same on both cylinders. I think I have it figures out. If the float assembly has been damaged at all at an idle it is conceivable that the float level is too high creating a rich environment. With only a blip of the throttle everything comes to life instantly. I could verify by switching between the carbs. Major pain in the >>>Polaris wants 70.00 for the needle/seat and float assembly. This must cost about 18 cents to make...
@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 13 жыл бұрын
You turn the entire TPS sensor untill you reach your desired value. Thats the reason you had to loosen the two anti tamper screws on the TPS. Sorry I didn't make that any clearer. I thought when you see me loosen off the two screws and grab onto the sensor and say "You have to rotate it" was clear enough. Once again Sorry but I hope this video did help.

Can you adjust the tps without the throttle idle set screw ?
@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 4 жыл бұрын
The simple answer is yes! While adjusting TPS you shouldn't have to adjust the throttle idle set screw. Now with that said, if you had to adjust your idle because your TPS was so far out of whack then you may need to adjust it when you bring the TPS back into the proper range. But most times you don't have to adjust the idle screw.

SETTING TPS ON CLEANFIRE INJECTION 1. Assemble your TPS sensor tool (PN 2201519) as per the instructions that came with the tool. 2. Make sure your 9 volt battery is in good condition by inserting the black voltmeter probe from your Fluketmeter in the black terminal and the red probe into the pink terminal. Voltage should read 4.99 to 5.01 volts. If not, try a new 9 volt battery.

Tab Dewolfe Good morning Tad, from what you're describing I don't believe the TPS is your problem. To me it sounds more like you have a carburetor issue. I would take the carbs off give him a great cleaning and sync the carburetors. Also why you have the carbs off give you Reed valves a check. Some of the Reeds can be missing or worn out of position. One last thing to check take a good long look at your carburetor boots. A ripper a tear in the booth could cause that problem also and they have a tendency to dry out and rot.

Sorry to hear it wasn't very helpful!

@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 7 жыл бұрын
Chuck Van The TPS should have no effect on Engine RPM at all, it's sole purpose is to tell the computer where the throttle is in relation to engine RPM. If you did not remove or adjust your throttle stops during the rebuild then I would definitely look at the tension in your throttle cables. One might be out of alignment.

@PolarisRich you wouldn't happen to still have the write up you did for slednutz do you? If so I'd like to post it or you can over at snowmobileforum.com as a few people have been wondering how to adjust and make that tool. Thanks!

Thanks, I did find the parts list but it was missing the type of switch you used and ICR what it was as the tester is at my parents house. IIRC it was a 12v toggle switch with 3 pins on it for ground, acc & power?@@PolarisRich www.backcountryrebels.com/showthread.php?t=1456 and www.backcountryrebels.com/showthread.php?t=21358&highlight=polaris+tester

Someone know if this tool work in the CFI??? And it is ok if my meter read 5.03 volt
@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 9 жыл бұрын
Yes this tool will work for Clean Fire Injection. It is used to supply a constant voltage to the TPS so a measurement can be taken on the output voltage. But you must follow the Clean Fire Injection procedure and settings! As for the 5.03 volts, I think your fine as long as it doesn't go above or below 4.90-5.10 volts

PolarisRich I' Last one for the CFI: I have a dummy question, connection issue, I have on my fluke meter the black one (-) red one (+) on the power supply I made, I have the red (5V) black for (-), so where I'm lost the TPS have 3 pins, do I put the 2 neg. together, Or witch wire go where .

You get all specific throughout the whole video except for the part that you really need to be specific about and film. Nice job otherwise, but what the hell do I turn?

No! You need a steady 5 volt source. Your best to use a 9 volt battery with a 5 volt dc regulator from Radio Shack. You can see how I built mine if you go to ... w w w . s l e d n u t z . c o m and search for "How to Build a TPS tester" in the "Snowmobile How-To's" topics.

3. Insert the red voltmeter lead into the terminal above the pink wire, and the black meter lead to the terminal above the black wire. Slowly open throttle and check for smooth voltage change. NOTE: The Fluke meter will change scales and show O.L. momentarily when throttle is opening.

Hey Rich ! Would this apply to my CFI 2009 RMK 700 ? Thanks ! Great video !
@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 8 жыл бұрын
Your sled is a 2009 CleanFire Injection machine and the process used in this video will not work for your sled. But fear not Doobyboy21, somewhere below in the comments I have outlined the procedure and specs used to adjust the CFI TPS used on your machine. Let me know how you make out and if you need more help feel free to ask.

is the 4.0 the same for a 2003 polaris pro x 800?
@PolarisRich
@PolarisRich 7 жыл бұрын
Shawn Brown I believe the 03 Pro X 800 is a regular carbureted machine so yes the 4.0 volts is the same for your TPS setting. The only time the TPS value would be different is if your engine has Cleanfire fuel injection.
