I just want to say, I'm a beginner in my mid-thirties and today I had the first session with my first pair of roller skates -- I loved it! I did my first bubbles and fell twice (my pads are awesome!). This was the first skating video of yours I watched (while waiting for my skates in the mail) and have been hooked on your channel ever since. Hey Coach! Coming from the world of gymnastics, dance and professional ballroom, I should have loosened my trucks from the beginning of my skating journey a year ago. I’ve been doing my edge drills and they’ve been so challenging, the moment I loosened my trucks it’s like im on a whole other level. I’m transitioning like a boss, manuals are controlled and I’m spinning on my heel/toe and and I haven’t even watched that video yet. Thank you so much for everything! Now, how do I know if I have them to loose? I’ve got them tightened just before I can hear/wiggle the that top washer.

Hi, if anyone can asnwer this, i have these skates, adult ones, with the plastic trucks, like the one in the video. I tried to adjust them until they do like 3:45 but the thing is, they still dont. I loose it, like more than a whole turn, more than 2 whole turns, and as in the video katie says that just a little makes a difference, im afraid its because of the quality that they wont get loose enough without compromising the truck stability, or maybe its because in this case i do have to loose them quite a bit. What do I do, try to loose them more to see if i get them right, or do i leave it like this? Its not like I have a place to actually skate, so i practice a bit at home, with the exercises for indoors from another video of hers, so maybe i dont really need right now the trucks to allow me to bend my foot if im not gonna make turns or anything. Any advice?
@Skatie
@Skatie 2 жыл бұрын
It could be that the rubber bits the cushions are too hard so even though you loosen the trucks the rubber is too hard to squash and give movement.

I have a question. I recently got a pair of Chicago Classic Women's Roller Skates. And they came with a jump bar. So when I adjusted my trucks when they first came, I only loosened the bolt on the bottom. But after watching this video, I looked at my trucks, and there is a nut on top of the jump bar. Now I'm not sure if I even did it right. I did notice a difference after I loosened the bolt, so I thought I'd done it right. But what should I do about about that nut on top of the jump bar? And, do I need to keep the jump bar on them? I want to make sure I do this right and would appreciate any help you can give me.
@Skatie
@Skatie Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you’ve loosened them correctly. I would leave the jump bar on these as it gives extra strength to the plate. The chicago skates will be ok to start rolling in but you may find you need to upgrade quite quickly as you progress.

Depending on the plate you’ll need either an 8mm or 7mm washer. Most likely a 8mm. If you check your bearings. If they are label as 608 then you’ll need an 8mm washer. If they are labelled as 627 you’ll need a 7mm washer.

Hi, I just got my skates and want to loosen my wheels a bit but when using the skate tool, the nut doesn’t budge! @Skatie

The wheel nuts can be quite tough to undo and sometimes need a bit of 'encouragement' to loosen, especially if they have been on there for a while. Make sure that you are using a tool that fits the nut securely. If you are unsure, you can always visit your local skate shop or rink who may be able to do it for you. Let me know how you get on. xx

Ugh I’m so confused. Trying to adjust my skates and every video I’ve watched so far has said your wheel should not be right and have a little wiggle so they can roll more freely. Now this says it should not wiggle. Don’t know what to do :(
@Skatie
@Skatie 2 жыл бұрын
👋 you definitely don’t want the wheel to have any up an down movement on the axel. You can tighten the wheel and then just back it off slightly to make sure it rolls freely but not so far it starts to move sideways on the axel. The nut should have a locking nylon inner ring. Make sure the end of the axel is always visible above this nylon inner ring to engage the locking system. Let me know if you need any more help x 💕🛼👍

@La Miss Most plates will take the 63mm wheels, the 65mm can occasionally cause problems. However, if you find the nut is scraping you can firstly try putting a few washers on the axel to push the wheel out a little or you can use a Dremel to cut off any excess bolt below the nut.

Unfortunately because I’ve been skating forever I have some unusual equipment. This wheels are from a Skechers Britney Spears skate from the 90”s. They are the softest wheels. Thank f you look for something around a 78a. 62mm. They’d be great for outside. The Britney Spears wheels are probably a little smaller around a 58mm. But bigger wheels are better outside so the bottom is the skate has better ground clearance.

Well done. Often the skates need adjusting when they arrive. Glad you fixed it. 🤩

I can't take my wheels off and there is so much hair stuck in them

Yes I always get those little rounds of hair around my axel. Yuck. Do you have a spanner or socket you could use to remove the nut?

Dear Katie, It seems you've removed your spacers. Their purpose is to eliminate the axial force on the bearings, which acts as friction. With the correct size spacer (as in new skates), you can tighten the nut without restricting motion. Beginners usually get skates with the correct size spacers and should not loosen the nut. Not using spacers creates friction, defeating the purpose of having harder wheels (though this might not be noticeable when spinning the wheels with your fingers) and can be quite dangerous.

For inlines spaces are definitely needed but for quads they work fine without. Some higher end wheels ship with spacers and speed and artistic skaters will use them. But for beginners they cause more trouble as people will transfer the spacers between wheels and if the spacer is too big it can stop the bearings seating correctly. It’s ok to roll quads without them. I have spacers for my bones and some of my roll-line stuff but I tend to roll without. The beginner sets ship with spacers because it stops the machines over tightening and squashing the bearings but even then most beginner skates ship with crazy tight wheel nuts. It’s a minefield of potential problems. 😜🌟😎

Honestly I thought the wheels are supposed to be very slippery
@Skatie
@Skatie 10 ай бұрын
For inside you can go as slippery as you can manage but for outside softer is better as it absorbs the bumps but it’s always preference.

Are you using a crab tool or a “proper” tool? You’ll get much better torque from a full sized spanner.

i recently got skates. They came with a tool. I tried to use that tool to loosen my wheels but for some reason they won’t give and I ended up just bending the tool somehow 🥲 help?

Sometime those T skate tools aren’t up to the job. You can also try a standard wrench. They’re much stronger.
