Thank you for this, Jake. Some of my family and I have started archery a little over a year now. And supposedly, the person mentoring my sister has told her that she needs to focus on the sight pin rather than the target. Now, before we started, we've been watching your channel, NuiSensei, and others so that we can have some sort of foundation before we had our beginner's course, and even when we spoke to other coaches in the club, they said ignore that advice and focus on the target, not the pin. So, this video came at a good time to further argue against that person's advise. But to be fair to that person, they're not a qualified coach, they're just a club member who was asked to keep an eye on new members.

Thanks for this Jake, i know i try too hard to keep the sight pin still over the gold which leads to too long a shot time, tiredness, shot anxiety and ultimately inconsistency, so i'm going to take on board what you say when i go to the range later today, coz sometimes when i hit a gold i know my pin wasn't over it and think 'how the hell did that happen' lol, so what you say makes a lot of sense. Jake. Learnt so much from you recently. Been shooting a very bare, really un tuned, bow for fun for years. Sticking with the very bare bow but added a bit of tuning etc thanks to you. Wanted to give something back so wondered if you ever read 'Zen in the Art of Archery'. A very old book but weirdly it's often about things you teach. Concentrate on the target and aiming will 'happen'. Leave the arrow to fly _ don't rush to where it lands. The release, form etc. If you can't find a copy happy to send you mine. What ever tho thanks and keep it going.

Hi Jake, thanks for the informative video. Can you make a similar video for barebow aiming? I understand, that the priciple is the same, but i have difficulties aiming over the tip of the arrow with the string in the way. It might help if you show what the sight picture should ideally look like.

Such an excellent explanation. Relevant to archers of all abilities, but also other target sports - this is also very relevant to aiming open sights or diopter sights on rifles. Time spent away from sights with a barebow can be very useful for people with 'sight fixation.'

Coming from a photographic background I found that I could use a pinhole "lens" to make both be in focus. A pinhole camera will have a focus from extreme close up to infinity, I made one out of card stock and put it on my glasses. Everything was in sharp focus from sights to target. I shot like this every day for a good year+ and it messed up my eye. I now have a spot/ distortion at the center of my vision right where I was looking through the pinhole. So I have to use my left eye for mostly everything which sucks being right handed. I tell my stupid story as a warning to others to not do that...

mike, I commend your sharing the mistake you made to help protect others who might make the same error. I noticed your comment of having a photographic background. I'm looking for camera gear to setup self discovery of my archery form. I know pretty much nothing photographically. I assume a cam that can link to a pc to sync with 2 or more other video recorders. Might you point me in a right search direction? I have no clue how to explore my desire. I doubt Jake would notice my question so looking for ppl like you to help me. start
@-mike-8134 Жыл бұрын
@@philtrimby9574 I'm not sure where to point you to video camera system wise. I have used a couple of cameras to record my shooting practices but not synced, just viewing them afterwards separately. I know that is easy to do in editing but I don't think that is what you have in mind. The only systems that I can think of off the top of my head would be for security video systems, they are made for multiple cameras feed into a computer, viewed simultaneously and recorded too. I have no experience with them or their capabilities. Sorry I can't be of more help but google and youtube are full of experts willing to help....

Another really good video Jake- well ecplained. I have a huge issue that has plagued me throughout my 5 year archery journey. That is...expanding through the clicker and allowing my hand to relax to release the arrow. I find that I'm on the target and anticipating the click but then spring my fingers open, or pluck badly. I've tried shooting without a clicker, and my release is much better but adding the clicker back in results in wide open groups and low scores. I've also shot blank bale with good results. It seems that my brain can't process aperture, clicker, and release. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jake, I've just started archery using a recurve 40lb bow. My question maybe abit odd, also may not have anything too do with archery but i found it strange this happened. Ok my first day shooting was fine, although i was so excited i didn't put my arm guard on, got a pretty bad bruise from that so lesson 1 learned, always have your guard on. But my pulling arm has also got a bruise just on the side where the elbow joint is, inside arm. Now I'm 52 but work out abit have been to many gym's and use all sorts of tension machine, one we called a pull back because that's what you are doing, the form is simular too an shooting method i.e you are pull a sting that pulls up the weight on the machine, never got a bruise doing that. So is this common, would it have anything to do with my shooting form as i watched one of you're vids and you spoke about pull threw, i however didn't pull threw, i left my arm still and when i let my fingers go for the arrow to fly i didn't pull threw. Have you ever seen this yourself in bigginers? Obviously i spoke to a doctor and she was absolutely confused and said you must of knocked it, but its inside my arm, only way too knock it would be to purposely hit something with it. Maybe i wasn't in the figure T I'm not sure, it's not painful only when i squeeze it but that obviously would be on a bruised part of the body. So do you use muscles in the pulling arm that is just not used normally in day to day life? Again have you ever seen this yourself? Thankyou and new sub as I'm joining a club soon but wanted some tips so i could be as accurate as i can, and have abit of knowledge before i join.

Jake would a warped riser affect aiming ? I bought a new bow thats incredibly difficult to aim with.. Ive shot lots of recurve and compound in the past and have never dealt with having to manipulate my head to align the string to my prefered position on the limbs to having a sight thats siting outside the target to the right .. I know there somthing up, because if I adjust my windage to where I can align the string and look straight down through the sight without manipulating my head or body to get there, I will always end up missing off to the left.. I checked the alignment of the string to limbs and middle of the riser the other night, and noticed that the stabilizer was waay off lning up with everything.. At a guess it looks like its 3 inches off at the weight end.. I took everything off the stabilisers, and just screwed in the long rod without and extension when I tried this.. The riser has non adjustable limbs.. not ilf..

Hi Jake, Great infomation. Does this translate to Barebow by just letting the tip of your arrow blur out and laser concentrate on the center of your target? In barebow, my greatest problem is what and how to aim for the best result. I have my process, get to anchor, set, look down my arrow to my target, put the arrow tip on where I want to hit the target. But I feel if I look at the target and don't see the arrow tip where it is supposed to go, I am not going to score the shot I need. Your video suggests that I let my concentration go to the target 90% and just let the arrow almost become equal to string blur. If that is correct. I will try it. Thank you for the content on this very confusing part of the shot process. Rick Mansberger Redmond Sports Group Patreon Member

Yea that’s precisely what I would recommend, possibly even less than string blur, but only less if your string alignment is dead consistent and non moving every time.

Also can you get back too me on my compound bow has a little metal ring tide into the string and i know im shotting at distances that normally make people sweat. Is it normal to have the object become too far and too small in the ring and then im literally dancing around with my site on my bow just not lined up right and i can see the trying to aim too hard part😂 i land 9 arrows and the 10th i hear a bad firecracker. And i normally group my arrows pretty tight i sometimes worrie about robben hooding a arrow cause that absolutely Annihilates 2 arrows or one is gone and the other has PD Disease 😂

Just a warning your sight on target should never be a reason to shoot & your eyes should never follow your pin. Get your pin on target then forget it. Next if the shot is prepared correctly proceed to conclusion with back tension. Pin on target shooting or following the pin( pin chasing)lead to Target Panic!
