How to align, upgrade, change or install a new cartridge on a Fluance HiFi Turntable

i just purchased my RT81 piano black- its a hell of a turntable for the money!!! sounds better than others at more than twice the price I am more than happy with the factory cartridge no need to upgrade folks!!! the Audio Technica AT95E is incredible!!!

I learned from this video, that since there is no height adjustment for the arm, only certain sized cartridges will be a good match. What cartridge measurement will tell me if I can use it, and what, if any, is the acceptable range for that measurement?

Hi I was wondering if you would recommend a good cartridge upgrade from the at91. I have a fluance rt80 and I’m looking to possibly upgrade to a at95e but I was wondering what other options are out there

Well in this video they upgraded the rt 80 to a ortofon OM 5E so that is probably a good upgrade it is also only 80 dollars

Hi, did you find out if the Magaoka mp110 work out ok with the Fluance? I bought the Fluance RT82 and hope the MP110 will fit in ok with supplied headshell??

@@johnogorman2920 sorry, never got a chance to buy it. had a good deal slip through my fingers. I think I've seen other KZbinrs using it in the past, so I think it's okay.

@@johnogorman2920 I just got the MP110 with the attached headshell and it did not work with the RT-82. The MP110 is the same height as the factory OM10 (18mm) but the Nagaoka headshell mounts it a bit higher, causing the stylus to float just above the record. I switched the cartridge to the Fluance headshell it works perfectly.

When you say there's no vta surely inside there's an grub screws that can adjust it. how is it mounted in place can it be shimmed. Might as well put a decent arm on it like Origin live silver, have you tried what's your results. Any benefit is a tight thick o-ring against headshell nut and 2 against gimbal shaft support. Not really the case the cartridge being aligned yes more than likely but really want the counter lever to be aligned using a laser pointer is good down the centre

Is the stylus on the included Ortofon cartridge properly aligned out of the box with a new Fluance turntable? I thought it was a bit odd that there wasn't anything about aligning the stylus in the step-by-step manual (with the alignment instructions just tacked on to the last page).

Hi Mortimer, the cartridges on our turntables are all aligned on the headshell out of the box. This video and the information in the manual are mainly for those that want to change to a new cartridge.

Doesn’t this cartridge weigh only 2.5 grams? So wouldn’t this cartridge be incompatible with the rt81?

Total weight of the cartridge is still 5 grams with the stylus.

Hi Fluance, would an Audio Technica AT-VM95E cartridge be a good replacement for the AT91 cartridge on the RT-80, considering its weight is quite on the heavy side (6.1g) and its tracking angle of 23° ? Thanks!

Hi Benjamin, the RT80 is compatible with cartridges up to 6.5g. The tracking angle should be 20° for the best results. The cartridge will still track, but the audio quality may not meet it's potential without the proper vertical tracking angle.

Great point! As long as the tonearm is not moved with the stylus resting on the surface, it will not be damaged. It's important to be very cautious with this particular step.

If you keep the stylus cover on, the measurement may not be accurate. It should be done without.

Thanks for a great question! From a bit of research, it looks like the weight on that the Red1 is 5.5g. That is well within the compatible range of the RT80 and RT81 models and their headshell. This video will walk you through the process, of aligning, keeping mind that the wiring order may differ slightly.

Thanks for a quick reply! I guess i should have been more specific, would a Grado prestige red2 work? The video talked about vertical height and I am not sure if the Grado prestige red2 would work along with its weight. Thanks again :)

@@scottsloth1915 We checked in on this for your and the height of the provided cartridge is 17mm. Taller cartridges may not perform as well without having the vertical angle adjustment. Let us know if you have any other questions!

It says they don't allow tonearm height adjustment but they do. You can use a screwdriver to adjust the VTA via the screw on the tonearm rest.

Thank you for your comment. The adjustment on the tonearm rest is solely for adjusting the height of the rest. This will not affect the VTA, that would require an adjustment of the tonearm itself.
