The alt languages do not show up in battle, each player sees the card s as their games language.

battles work differently, they always use the language you set your game for the obvious reason of reading card effects during battle... it would be a hassle when you battle into cards you dont know the effects and they are in a language u dont understand

Yup, battles default for whatever language you have selected. This is more for being able to permanently acquire them in these languages for your collection / showcase.

That is japanese ,koran and Chinese (Traditional). Chinese (Simplified) is not on the list.

is there a way to make sure you keep japanese cards when upgrading flair?

When consuming a dupe to give a card flair it will let you select which language version you want to consume. Then you can add your flairs after you put the card you want to showcase in a binder etc.
