Ive done HR and Recruiting for 16yrs and I NEVER as those corny scripted questions. All you're doing is encouraging people to lie to you. I believe through dialogue, not Q&A you'll get all the answers you need from a potential candidate. Ive learned when a candidate is comfortable their true self is revealed. When they've remembered prepared answers to prepared questions its just an act. Of course you have to ask basic question especially about previous work experience. But I'm not asking anyone "why do they want to work here" or "why you are the best person for this job" or "why should i hire you". That's so 1960's and 1970's.

those three questions are part of the reason I keep going back to the idea that suicide seems more logical than attempting finding a job. I get sick thinking about being asked those questions. I am glad there are people who don't do that to people but because I don't know how to deal with those effed up questions I can not even bare applying anywhere ever. I don't know how to find out who doesn't do that to people. I think there is likely 10 to 20 percent of jobs maybe a little more that the person has a connection store with. there really isn't any place that has a connection story for me and I can understand that question for a high up position but I have been asked on min wage jobs,

Wow 16 years! you seem to be young and I admire the work efforts in HR you have chosen to put your mind to. Im sure people like to at least feel prepared.

@@shanellvioletslecarr2689 I'm going to take that as a compliment...(-: I started fairly young in HR as a clerk right out of college. Chris Patrick... absolutely. I would have remained employed cleaning offices of there was a purpose. Long story short. I NEEDED MORE MONEY. Such as respect and honesty. The concept of ensuring I can also pay my car note and service bill to get there, take care of my family, and have benefits they employed in the documents. Keep employees excited and enthusiastic about what they do and appreciate them as people alongside the pay.
@RealChunka
@RealChunka 5 жыл бұрын
@Chris Patrick...I disagree. "Money", answers the question "why do you want A job", not why you want this particular job. While we all want to earn enough to support our preferred lifestyles, I believe there are as many if not more people that are willing to accept less to do work that they love, as there are people who spend their precious, short lives doing work that they hate, because it pays well. There are so many other factors that come into play as well, such as location, flexibility, benefits etc...so I'm not sure if you were just trying to be funny by over simplifying it, but wanted to comment just in case.

@@RealChunka I can relate to your comment... But for my situation.. $ is one of the key factors contributing to why I would choose a specific job or career. Secondly, I applied for it because I feel deserving of it; thirdly, I went to school for it. I only apply to jobs I feel confident in doing that would benefit me my family and my lifestyle immediately and the way I see it is when the training is accessible and the pay is acceptable will speak volume. I must have the financial and the knowledge to be productive. With no money I can't get there, function in the company, nor become mebtally and financially stable. Question why did you choose this position? Um because it was posted and I was browsing the description that said will train🤔. I will gain a niche later but right now I have a car note and utilities to pay and children to care for

I try to keep it simple and only focus on the things I have control over: myself and nobody else. But it is working!!! You have to speak life into your own life: I can do this. I am smart, capable, and balanced. I can make and reach goals. Everything will not change in five minutes every time you do this. A lot of times it actually will tho. Or if not in five minutes, five hours, or five days, or five weeks. But you need to set your self up to win more by believing you can win! I believe in you. I'm gonna be praying! Have a blessed day!!! ☺🙏🌱💖

There are movies like “office space” for a reason. Truth is, most of us work to live, not live to work. So it’s a loaded question. Much like the useless STAR interview questions. You can demonstrate with your answer that you understand the value they offer customers who choose their brand because of what sets it apart. Even automotive oils differ from one another in the details of their formulation and compete to give themselves the best edge in the market. Show that you understand their Brand A is unique so offers higher value than some other brand, and that you have benefitted from or seen costumers benefit from that leading edge. Try that.

I’m on the other side of the table and am now a hiring manager, I can say this is 100% true. I had 2 well qualified candidates but could only choose one. I went with the person who had the better answer to this question. I did phrase it a bit differently “why do you want to work for us here at Apple” and the more genuine answer who did more research and had more thought into their answer got the job. Definitely made me think that they cared enough to prepare.

I have a "normal" name, am a good communicator, and have a degree and a lot of freelance experience in my field so hiring managers call me a lot. I do well on the phone interview, am invited for an in-person interview, and then never hear back. Unless you're a volunteer, your chief reason for applying for a job IS the money. That might not be the best answer to give to that question, but if an employer thinks that their company is so amazing and does such positive life-affirming work that prospective employees are lining up around the block to "make a difference" - they drank the KoolAid. Employees are there so they can continue to afford to eat and have a roof over their heads. Every employee would prefer not to work at all. Think of the popular conversation topic 'what would you do if you won the lottery'? No one says they would keep their job. Certainly nowhere near the majority of employees would want to keep their job. To pretend otherwise is delusional.

Let's be honest, most of us are lying to the establishment on why we want to work there. I think it's pretty useless thing to ask, especially for an entry job. This hurts a lot of chances for autistic people since they just speak their mind and take things literal. That's just my opinion. Good video!

Answering questions focussed on what might be of interest to the employer is a great tip. I recently answered, "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" by giving a completely self-centered response. It was true to my goals. However, I could have phrased it in a way that really highlighted how the professional growth promised by the prospective position would have been an important part of my journey to where I wanted to be. The hope is that the employer would see that the position is more than just a job but part of who I want to be.

I think this applies for dream jobs but sometimes you gotta provide for your family and you’ve been out of work for 5 months. At that point, the reason just isn’t that deep, especially when you’re submitting 4-5 resumes a week to various companies for months through search engines, competing with anywhere from 300+ to 1,000 other resumes per job. It comes down to creating reasons why you “want” this position but it’s really about the paycheck, in most cases.

“Why do you want this job” is, often, a trick question. It forces many to lie. Many people are working in jobs they hate because they went to the interview and lied about why they wanted the job. It was not to stay and make a career out of it. It was to pay bills. Authenticity in interviews is rare, both from the interviewer and the person being interviewed.

Thank you! I just landed an interview for a dream job for this Monday morning, but I haven’t worked in a little over 5 years (busy having / raising kids) so as thrilled and excited as I feel, I’m also so nervous and intimidated! I don’t want to mess this up. I haven’t interviewed for a new position or with a new company in over a decade, because I worked for my last one for so long. Your advice on the most basic question to go ahead and share some personal reasons instead of giving a generic answer is helping to inspire confidence and formulate an appropriate answer that is also genuinely heartfelt. So long ago, the advice to “be professional” was centered around basically removing yourself and your personality and the goal was to come across as neutrally as possible. Things have really changed, apparently. I’m relieved because I was nervous that my excitement might show through but it seems from your advice that if a little enthusiasm sleeps out for the company specifically that would be ok. Phew! What a relief!

Often this question is thrown for one of two reasons. 1) as a warm-up to the interview, because many people have created good answers to the question, and the question can be seen as a warm-up by the candidate, or 2) they are an untrained interviewer (often not from HR) who are not sure what to ask, but found this question when they did a quick Google search.

Applied to NorthWest Airlines. My very first flight all by myself was on NWA. I was 7 years old flying from KBUF to KDTW to see my grandparents. I remember the FA's taking me to see the flight deck and the pilots being larger than life-and all those gauges! I already knew I wanted to be a pilot someday. I knew that day that somehow, someday I would fly for NWA. Got the job. 18 mos later was furloughed and changed careers.

Just had to answer this question.... it was asked online , if I get asked in person I’ll point out that there are videos mocking the question and answer and in an effort to be honest my response is that I understand there is a potential to meet 2 needs: the company needs a worker and I have what they need to offer. It’s my opinion that an interview goes both ways, if the potential employer doesn’t meet your needs you need to make that choice of not taking that job. Unemployment is historically low for a reason, tons of jobs out there. Keep this in mind guys even the interviewer has to meet a job goal, to find people to hire and often they have some pressing need to get that done too.
