Ive done HR and Recruiting for 16yrs and I NEVER as those corny scripted questions. All you're doing is encouraging people to lie to you. I believe through dialogue, not Q&A you'll get all the answers you need from a potential candidate. Ive learned when a candidate is comfortable their true self is revealed. When they've remembered prepared answers to prepared questions its just an act. Of course you have to ask basic question especially about previous work experience. But I'm not asking anyone "why do they want to work here" or "why you are the best person for this job" or "why should i hire you". That's so 1960's and 1970's.
@gettintherejanice62165 жыл бұрын
those three questions are part of the reason I keep going back to the idea that suicide seems more logical than attempting finding a job. I get sick thinking about being asked those questions. I am glad there are people who don't do that to people but because I don't know how to deal with those effed up questions I can not even bare applying anywhere ever. I don't know how to find out who doesn't do that to people. I think there is likely 10 to 20 percent of jobs maybe a little more that the person has a connection store with. there really isn't any place that has a connection story for me and I can understand that question for a high up position but I have been asked on min wage jobs,

@@gettintherejanice6216 I understand. When I relocated to Florida after working 15 yrs with the same company, I ran into these same silly questions when looking for a job. And it can be depressing. If 15 yrs of experience isn't enough for why I'm the right fit, then I don't know what to tell you.

Keep employees excited and enthusiastic about what they do and appreciate them as people alongside the pay.
@RealChunka6 жыл бұрын
@Chris Patrick...I disagree. "Money", answers the question "why do you want A job", not why you want this particular job. While we all want to earn enough to support our preferred lifestyles, I believe there are as many if not more people that are willing to accept less to do work that they love, as there are people who spend their precious, short lives doing work that they hate, because it pays well. There are so many other factors that come into play as well, such as location, flexibility, benefits etc...so I'm not sure if you were just trying to be funny by over simplifying it, but wanted to comment just in case.

I must have the financial and the knowledge to be productive. With no money I can't get there, function in the company, nor become mebtally and financially stable. Definitely made me think that they cared enough to prepare.
@warmgulfwind6 жыл бұрын
Unless you're a volunteer, your chief reason for applying for a job IS the money. That might not be the best answer to give to that question, but if an employer thinks that their company is so amazing and does such positive life-affirming work that prospective employees are lining up around the block to "make a difference" - they drank the KoolAid. Employees are there so they can continue to afford to eat and have a roof over their heads. Every employee would prefer not to work at all. Think of the popular conversation topic 'what would you do if you won the lottery'? No one says they would keep their job. Certainly nowhere near the majority of employees would want to keep their job. To pretend otherwise is delusional.

I think this applies for dream jobs but sometimes you gotta provide for your family and you’ve been out of work for 5 months. At that point, the reason just isn’t that deep, especially when you’re submitting 4-5 resumes a week to various companies for months through search engines, competing with anywhere from 300+ to 1,000 other resumes per job. It comes down to creating reasons why you “want” this position but it’s really about the paycheck, in most cases.

I love the way you speak. Even though you made up the scenario, the way you phrased your answer was so heartwarming - helped me so much in phrasing my answer!! :) thank you for the video.

Applied to NorthWest Airlines. My very first flight all by myself was on NWA. I was 7 years old flying from KBUF to KDTW to see my grandparents. I remember the FA's taking me to see the flight deck and the pilots being larger than life-and all those gauges! I already knew I wanted to be a pilot someday. I knew that day that somehow, someday I would fly for NWA. Got the job. 18 mos later was furloughed and changed careers.

Good advice, I have a Master's in HR, not sure about the emotional connection though, if you are applying to a company who has posted a position in which you feel qualified. Most of the time you match your skills with the job description and elaborate on those skills, it's not necessarily an "emotional connection".

Now I understand something I didn't understand before I wondered why the company I currently work for held on so long during the hiring process I Was sure the job they were offering me Would have been given away by then Now I see that my connection story was very compelling I currently work for A-day care that used to have a Hebrew school on Sundays the that I attended as a child I express how much I missed the building Thank you for helping me understand this it means something to me

Maybe you can flip it on the feeling of how you could assist with making the company better. When you do your research and you see numbers like assisted 800 people you could say, "I saw on your website that you assisted 800 people with me as a team member I can increase that by 15%. It may not be true, but they don't know that... yet.

It's helpful if the assumption is a face to face interview is available. Many are interviewing with strictly online programs. Sometimes it's harder to get past the pre-screen process.

Celia Curillan H Quick question. Did her advice give the slightest assistance in obtaining the position that you were seeking 7 months ago?
@justsaying155 жыл бұрын
Often this question is thrown for one of two reasons. 1) as a warm-up to the interview, because many people have created good answers to the question, and the question can be seen as a warm-up by the candidate, or 2) they are an untrained interviewer (often not from HR) who are not sure what to ask, but found this question when they did a quick Google search.

Because you asked I’ll comment. You describe what I did inadvertently 30 years ago. I wasn’t that smart but just happened to do what you’re suggesting. It led to a job that I’ve held for three decades.

I always answer "I thinks that's why we are here, you are trying to decide if I am right right for this position and I am trying to decide if this is a company where I would fit in and contribute." After the interview process I always follow up with a thank you email with an answer to that question.

Just had to answer this question.... it was asked online , if I get asked in person I’ll point out that there are videos mocking the question and answer and in an effort to be honest my response is that I understand there is a potential to meet 2 needs: the company needs a worker and I have what they need to offer. It’s my opinion that an interview goes both ways, if the potential employer doesn’t meet your needs you need to make that choice of not taking that job. Unemployment is historically low for a reason, tons of jobs out there. Keep this in mind guys even the interviewer has to meet a job goal, to find people to hire and often they have some pressing need to get that done too.
