-10 is being used because its the most favorable overlap in most situations. If the bass is too heavy, set it with -5. If you really hate bass, you can set it at 0db but the amp wont put out much power LOL

i do all of my adjustments as close as close can be, and by ear. my deck can go as high as 42 out of 50, using an oscilloscope, but my current subs are underpowered with the amp i am using. so the gain is set higher than recommended, by the amp itself. my only problem with the mids and highs amp is the ground loop i hear, especially with no music, which of course sucks balls, but nothing i can do about it cause i have already tried everything to clear the ground loop. i have the big three update, just not an alternator. the alternator in my jeep seems to do a really good job, which leads me to think it is already upgraded. no charging problems at all. and my voltage doesn't drop below 12.3 at idle while in gear at red light. using a 1200 watt max pioneer at about 1.3 ohms for three 12in subs that can handle 1100 watts each quad stacked, underpowered. the amp itself is over 10 years old and still does what it is supposed to.

The dock connector test highly depends on the deck. So does the bluetooth. Cause the dock (USB and bluetooth only sends digital data. So it depends on how the deck converts i into analog signals. But as long as you got a good quality deck it shouldn't be any problem at all. Over all a good test! Very fun to watch. :)

This is very interesting Steve, the blue tooth is not that big of a surprise that it has distortion but I am very surprised with the straight audio port. I would still recommend using an external DAC but nice to know apple has made some improvements to their ports.

Why the -10db track when setting the gains? Wouldn't you want your signal to be at 0db since when audio is playing the signal is going to be set there?

I know it's an old video, but you should know some of the Sony's out of the box have a +6db gain on the Bluetooth input.. This is why you had to bring back the iPad volume 2 clicks. Wouldn't have been the case with the Sony settings for Bluetooth gain set to 0db. The iPad should've had no distortion over Bluetooth on full volume also. Great video though

my question is are we stuck with listening to our music in the flat frequency range since that is what we tune from? how is the the dd-1 tuning effected by things like pre set equalizer selections and "loud" settings? thanks
@christopherwise7067 Жыл бұрын
those settings are for your mids and highs. you want your subs to be a base levels... zero everything when setting the amp for your subs. do not add extra bass. and absolutely no treble... you want your subs to work off the settings you have to mids and highs....

@jeffreyseverance42317 жыл бұрын
hey steve. big fan by the way. I had a question. So when using the SMD to set distortion, after everything is set right is possible to get distortion still at lower volumes on the deck if the cd changes the sound? What I mean is that I've noticed some songs differ in volume. One CD sounds louder than another one for some reason, yet leaving the volume on the deck at say 30. Could the louder cd cause distortion at volume 30 where the other one didn't?
@dj4monie7 жыл бұрын
You can rip your CD's to wave and use Levelator to to make all the levels the same from disc to disc and burn it back to disc if you which.
@tke7405 жыл бұрын
Isn’t it better to use the discs if you have a cd rom drive? I ask because I know that digital music is compressed and you cannot completely remove the %THD. If you use a cd, you still get the hi-fi quality that most newbies forgot exists since they were only born in the realm of compressed/downloaded music. I still use discs with an old laptop with cd rom drive and I have an external cd rom drive that works with any laptop that had usb.

Say Steve, tech question for you. first off i'm a big RF enthusiast so I plan on using every component they offer down to the speaker wire & that's where my question comes. I only see that they have the 12 gauge speaker wire, is that what you used in the Tahoe (not that i'm gonna go that serious LOL) or did go with somethin else? and also I know that the speaker wire plays some factor in the sound quality, but how much?

Are you setting your gain with the -10dB track to overcome additional distortion known with compressed audio files? I have used the DD to tune highs to -3dB and Bass to 0dB since I wanted my highs to play cleaner than the bass.

It might also be helpful to be setting your volume limit settings while your detecting gain. I use the volume limit on my older iPods and such, so that I know I won't get distortion when it's all the way up. 'Course, that's not a problem anymore with RockBox installed. Ooh! And Psyph the cameraman! That's pretty cool.
