How To Apply 2-Way Mirror Film on Glass and Plexiglass

Since I've done several videos where I used 2-way mirror film for the project, I realized that it would be beneficial to have this video where I go over the process in more detail than I do in the individual videos.

Johnson and Johnson baby bath, the blue coloured bottle works very well to make the ‘slip’ solution After squeegeeing the film, leave it to dry with apthat tiny edge of film left on, then once dry file the edges with a small flat nose needle file (the sort of hobby files used for fine detail work) 👍 gives a seamless finish and won’t peel back

Thanks for sharing the tips! The slip solution I've been using sometimes seems to degrade the adhesive while it's still wet, even though this is what it's made for. I'll have to try your suggestion!

So im still not quite sure if we want to have the mirror foil on the inside or outside of the glass, since the foil i bought has the protective layer over the mirror side which normally is placed inside the home or office however i feel like it might be better to paste the other side on the glass panel so the mirror tint is directly exposed to the insides of the infinity mirror and the reflections do no have to pass through the glass, any thoughts?

Will this definitely work with acrylic? I'm planning a whisky half barrel infinity table build and hoping to use 8mm clear acrylic for the top with mirror film underneath. Lots of people say the films don't adhere to plastics though so I'm unsure now.

That's a really good question. I've used it mostly with acrylic. The biggest issue that I've had is it will sometimes peel up at the edges. I think that this is because cut acrylic will often be not flat at the cut. The best solution that I've found is to trim off about 1mm around the edges of the film after it's in place. Then make sure it's completely dried before doing anything else with it. Also, making sure the frame supports the film around the borders will help keep it from peeling away over time. I've also had issues with the lubricating liquid weakening the adhesive. Both of these are issues I've had with acrylic and glass. You can also try it on a smaller piece of acrylic to get a feel for how it works. I hope this is helpful.

I plan on using this tip with a thin sheet of acrylic for a faux stained glass window look. I may try to dilute some clear Elmer's glue to use in a spray bottle, then tape the ends of the film. Thanks for making this video!

How does this work with plastic

Question, if applying this to plexiglass and then using said glass in front of a tv… what side do I apply the film? I assume the inside/back of the plexiglass…. Meaning the part the will actually rest on the front of the tv with the mirror side of the film showing thru the plexi right? And do you know where i can get a roll of 60” wide and 48” tall? I can find window film but i do not know if this is the same

Yeah, the side that would be closer to the tv is the side with the film on.. Here is a link to a roll of film about that size, (a bit longer): amzn.to/3DWJloM I haven't used this brand so I'm not sure how well it will work, but it should still work.

That's a good question. I've used it on plexiglass with about the same results as glass. It may depend on the brand of film though.
