When I add photo to symbols it says cant link.

When you upload the photo or when you open it in Adobe illustrator, then make sure you Embed the image, which you can find it above just below the top menu under File, edit etc..... You get a few option for the image you've uploaded, one of them is called Embed then drag and drop it into a symbol. Hope this was helpful.

Have you intentionally disabled GPU acceleration? It really affects the performance.

I guess i did, but it depends on how fast your PC is and its very useful to have GPU enabled.
