Such beautiful people. Thank you so much. Can She kindly let us know what she did to be competitive to be accepted, how did she prepare herself to apply in terms of other qualifications or certificates, projects, research, that boost her CV that she thinks aided her approval into the program. Maybe if she can share important pointers on how she prepared her CV and motivational letter that would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I believe the letter needs to come from your medical school. To find more specific information about the process for each program, check out their website. They have a checklist or list of what to do; they also have a contact person in case you have more questions.

How about primaries? I’m from Namibia and fellow medical officers have been writing those in order to go specialise in South Africa. Also does entry into ophthalmology require primaries?
@knowyourdoctorbydr.l62528 ай бұрын
I believe that all subspecialties require primaries. But please don't just take my word for it. Please look up the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. They list all the exams that are required for each specialty. Go through the ophthalmology requirements to get more answers. For universities that offer the program, you could look up individual universities or search for universities that offer ophthalmology and you’ll get the list. All the best with your studies! And thanks for watching 😊

Hello! Thanks for watching 😊. Picking a specialty is very personal so I am unable to point you in one direction or the other. What I would advise is to reach out to residency programs close to where you live and arrange for a rotation as an observer in the specialties you are interested in. This will hopefully help you make an informed decision.

Hello! Thank you for watching and for your questions. I think the best thing you can do to help improve your chances is to reach out to: 1. Work with Opthalmologists where you are in order to get some exposure 2. Work on some research project, write a manuscript or two (case reports/series) 3. Reach out to the different Ophthalmology programs in SA (at least the ones you are interested in) to find out about application requirements: www.wits.ac.za/clinicalmed/departments/division-of-ophthalmology/ 4. Take the part 1 HPSA exams if you can 5. Join one of the Ophthalmology societies www.ossa.co.za
