I slowed the playback down to 0.25 so I could see what you were actually doing. The last video I watched said it's best to have a top coat on the chalk paint before glazing and I don't think it turned out as nice as yours. I'm just beginning to paint furniture and thought the glaze was a nice look. I haven't done a top coat yet so I'll try your technique. Thanks for the tips!

Barb West Hi Barb! So there are two types of glaze looks; there’s a clean glaze and a dirty/muddy glaze. In this video I’m showing you the dirty/muddy glaze. To achieve that you paint and then glaze. To achieve the cleaner glaze you paint, put on a topcoat and then glaze. The dirty/muddy glazed look is a great look! It’s one of my favorite ways to add some dimension to a piece.

Hi Bethany...I continue to learn so much from your videos. I have a question. Can I do a muddy glaze on top of Benjamin Moore advance paint or does the muddy glaze have to be done on chalk paint only? Thanks! Also can I use the general finishes oil based gel topcoat on the blue BM paint?

Darlene Franzone Hi there! I’m so glad you are finding my videos helpful! To answer your question yes you can do a muddy glaze on paint that isn’t chalk paint. Do keep in mind I would get a matte/flat finish. It will be more porous. The higher the sheen the more the glaze will sit on top on the paint giving less of a muddy look, more of a clean glaze. I hope I’m making sense. If you have more questions I’m happy to help.

I did some built in closets and i tried this glazing but the satin paint sucked it up alot. It came out good but i wanted a less muddy look. What kind of sheen white paint should have i used to achieve a cleaner glaze look?

If you desire a cleaner glaze adding a topcoat BEFORE you apply the glaze helps achieve a cleaner look.

Just apply a Minwax polycrylic on top to seal everything together and give a smooth finish

Darla Simmank Thank you so much! The glaze I used was actually a stain. I believe it was Walnut minwax stain. I did another tutorial showing how I glaze with stain.

Hi. I am about to try to update a coffee table using your techniques. I know you said you used a soft white chalk paint. Would you be able to tell me what brand you used? The look of your table is exactly the coloring I am going for.

I used Valspar paint in a matte/flat finish. I then used that to make my own chalk paint. I did another tutorial showing you how I make my own chalk paint. You should check that one out.

@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 I just got done with the technique you used in this video and it turned out great!! I wanted to see if it’s possible to use another coat of stain to make it darker?
@madelinejeanantiquesrestor90744 жыл бұрын
@@jennifersperanza8612 You can BUT be careful if you apply it before the other coat of stain is dry it will remove your first coat. You must ensure that first cost is absolutely dry.
