I just wanted to add that make sure your MCAT score is balanced. Meaning the scores are above 125 minimum. I scored 513 (129,123,130,131) on my MCAT. As you can see my CARS score was 123 which caused me some issues to get some interviews.

Thanks so much for sharing! On my last MCAT, I scored 499 and I was so afraid to re-study for it because I don't know how high I should score. I am so relieved now knowing I can set a goal knowing what is enough and work towards it. This definitely decreased my pressure and made it more achievable!

This is great information! I've been preparing for over 5 months and was scheduled for my exam on March 27....but.....da rona changed my plans (for everyone pretty much). The great thing is that I got a May exam and more study time. I'm definitely going to dedicate time to revisit my weak areas for content and continue using my resources and doing practice exams! So glad I came across your channel and btw I LOVE the set up for your videos!

Hey JR, congrats on your acceptances! You're an inspiration to a lot of people. I want to point out that while MSAR is a great tool and a necessary tool for realistically forming a goal score, it can also cause a lot of anxiety (at least for me)! Of course depending how you look at it; personally, I was really discouraged after researching schools and seeing their statistics on MSAR. Thanks for pointing out the 'All Matriculated Students' tab-definitely alleviates the anxiety a bit haha
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for those encouraging words! And I completely understand that. MSAR added a little to my anxiety as well, but it only shows average stats for a school, and so much more goes into the application than your stats. So even if your stats don’t match the mean scores of the the schools you want to go to, that doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t competitive for those programs. My stats were honestly far below the averages for the schools I got into lol. Check out this video to see how relatively low my stats were compared to the schools I got accepted into: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqfWcn6Hi96gfrc

Thank you for your videos. I am learning a lot. Your comments on tailoring your study schedule to the score you need seems to be analogous to a long jumper measuring the distance to the bar through their strides. How would you relate your experiences as an athlete to preparing for taking the MCAT?
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic 4 жыл бұрын
I think that’s a great analogy! Being an athlete has definitely given me a certain perspective and in track, our biggest competitor was ourselves. Working to “PR” is analogous to working to do the best I can on the MCAT, not really worrying about everyone else

Really great video. I had one question about research ~ although unrelated to this video. I think you said in some other video that you had many publications. I have been working in a research lab for 3 years now, but I have been unlucky with the publication. The farther I have gotten is poster presentation but that's about it. I think I like biological research and want to publish in this field but have gotten minimal opportunities as an undergraduate research assistant. Any advice? Also, what is your email? It would be grt to personally ask you med school related questions
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reaching out! Great question! My research was clinical research, so publications happen much more frequently than in basic research. But that’s not a bad thing if you’re passionate about basic research. In terms of comparing the two on a medical school application, I’d believe that being heavily involved in basic research for 3 years is just as interesting and impressive as a few publications in clinical research. In terms of long term career aspirations (e.g. being a well published physician-scientist) you will have many more opportunities during medical school, residency and beyond. My advice would be to continue pursuing what you’re passionate about in terms of the type of research. You’ll enjoy your work, have something substantial to talk about when applying to med schools and set a foundation for you to flourish in that type of research during your medical career. I hope this helps! And my email is: Evolvingmedic@gmail.com You can also dm me in instagram @EvolvingMedic anytime!

Hey! I'm new to your channel and I just want to let you know that your videos are SO inspiring!! I am senior right now who plans to apply this cycle, but I haven't taken the MCATs yet. I have taken Next Step practice exams and have been scoring 505 consistently (127/123/127/128). I end up running out of time for the first three sections, guessing on 1-2 passages. I know that you got around the same score when you first took your exam and so, I am wondering what was it exactly that increased your score significantly? Right now, I feel as if I am not improving no matter what I do. I review my exams thoroughly and I usually make silly mistakes because of time pressures. What's your advice for someone who always runs out of time when taking practice exams? Also, if you don't mind me asking, what was your science GPA? I am just concerned because I feel as if the MCATs is CRUCIAL for me to compensate for my mediocre grades (less than 3.5). I apologize for this extremely LONG comment, but I would greatly appreciate it if you could offer some advice!
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for just getting back to you! I must have missed this comment when it was posted. But the I saw the biggest improvement in my MCAT after taking about half a dozen practice exams. It took about that many attempts to begin getting comfortable with the time constraints on each section and thats half the battle. Unfortunately theres no quick fix to large improvements on the MCAT. It just takes a lot of practice, but not just practicing answering questions correctly, but also answering questions efficiently and getting comfortable moving at a good pace. I've attached a link in this message to a video where I go into my gpa and science gpa. I hope this helps and again, I'm sorry its so late! kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqfWcn6Hi96gfrc
