Another great informative video. I would add, whatever the hitch or implement , a pry bar, such as a five or six steel fence post, is an excellent addition to your Equipment yard to move the implement slightly up, down, left or right with little effort or muscle, that aides in lineup equipment to tractor hitch.
@comlbbeau3 жыл бұрын
When dropping an implement it helps to position it on wood blocks or something similar. Not only does it minimize ground contact but it makes it much easier to "persuade" it to match up with your lower links by moving it slightly if necessary.... and I guarantee you it will be necessary.

A helpful add on to this video would be quick hitch that has a floating implement, such as that deck you were using. Another question would be with the finishing mower you had in this video, the two arms that hook into the 3 point arms, are they supposed to be in the slot that allows for minor up/down movement like in your video or the two static holes above, when coupled to a a quick hitch to allow the deck to float?
@tsafa3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely worth it. The $120 quick hitch from Harbor Freight does the job good. I have 1000 lbs of counterweight on it. Don't use the $30 bushings, use the $3 sleeves. Remove the bolts from the top hook and put in quick easy to move pins instead. Now when I buy implements I just make sure that they will match up to it. Get an adapter plate with spaced-out pinholes for the top for some of the implements .

I did call my dealer and order the quick hitch though to just make it a little simpler hopefully. I bought the Kubota BX2680 with the loader, tiller, mid mount 60" mower, box blade, and pallet forks. Back in the day it used to be quite common for the right hand 3PH lift link to have a hand crank to aid in attaching implements. You would attach the pin on the left side and then turn the crank to raise or lower the right side to aid in getting it attached. This crank could also be used to level an implement side-to-side. Most SCUT/CUT makers like JD and Kubota no longer put the crank handles on the lift links which is a bummer. They all still have some type of adjustment mechanism but these days it's more for leveling rather than helping to attach the implement. I believe New Holland still has the cranks on a lot of their models.
@MessicksEquip6 жыл бұрын

One thing you should have said is that you should always park your implements on flat level ground. When I started using my father-in-law's bushhog I was getting annoyed that it would take a solid ten minutes to hook up, whether I was hooking it up, his farm hand, or both of us together. He has it sitting on a mixture of railroad ties and a concrete blocks...while being about 6-8 inches higher than the path. One time I didn't finish mowing one weekend so I detached it just on the driveway off to the side and the next weekend it took me all of 30 seconds to get it on.

One story was a guy in highschool my aunt knew was out working with his tractor when something got wrapped around the shaft. He grabbed it from the seat without thinking and got ripped off the seat and both arms wrapped around the shaft ripping them both off. He regained consciousnesses got up and went to his house to used a pencil to call a friend who lived near town to get help. As his home wasn't close to any emergency services. It was a rural area in northeast Pennsylvania in the early 70s.

That quick hitch seems like a great idea, but since you said it don't work for all implements, I guess it may not be as useful as one may think. Hi Neal, Love your videos! I've got a question about the PTO shaft. I grew up farming with old pre-1970's tractors and have recently gotten a new JD5045(my family's first new tractor in decades). I was surprised to see that the PTO shaft didn't have a lock-pin hole that would allow me to use my old implements. Everything now is quick-connect. This apparently has been standard for quite some time as I discovered while asking around for a good solution. I got a lot of blank, confused stares when I was trying to explain my situation. I finally found online a short PTO shaft extender that was quick connect and had the lock-pin hole tapped that solved my problem, but I'm wondering when that standard changed and if anyone else out there has encountered this same dilemma?

with regards to an implement with weight-bearing wheels rolling on the ground (such as the mower you just hooked up): can you comment on the position of the implement top pin compared to the bottom two pins - as in: should they all 3 be directly in a vertical plane? should the two lower flexible links on the implement sag at the same angle as the flex link that the tractor toplink is pinned to? the instructions on my Woods RM990 are extremely unhelpful with specifying exactly how tight/loose all these should be in order to let the mower "float" a bit over terrain that is not exactly level. another seemingly silly Q: if there is a lot of extra length to any of the pins, is it of any mechanical advantage to loosely "shim" them up with washers so the lynch pin is not way out all alone on the end of the pin? last point: a Quick Hitch will make it harder to get the implement's PTO driveline on - you simply have more framework to have to reach through/around making alignment of splines/pull-collar-while-pushing-shaft even more of a hassle than usual - just something to consider as well. PS: Harbor Freight Quick Hitch was a complete fail for any of my implements - but it was cheap and i got a free tape measure !!! any chance of demonstrating various backhoe-subframe set-ups and attachment steps? it's quite unclear how much some subframe mounts will protrude into the 3-Pt lift area.

Get a hydraulic top link. I find it’s actually easy to extend that hydraulic top link all the way then connect it, and by retracting it you can pull the implement into place. Of course this only works on implements with wheels or castors. Also make sure your lower links are all the way down and spread as far apart. Keep adjusting the hydraulic top link until the lower arms are inline with the pins and able to be kicked on, or pinned to the impliment. Also. connecting PTOs are my least favorite thing to do. They’re so greasy and you’re working in a cramped area. Not my idea of fun.
