Welcome back to the channel ya kooks! Today we are wrapping up the project with Adam and his Ford E-350 4x4 Powerstroke Diesel. Today's project is installing knotty pine tongue and groove wall panels inside his van. We have finished this project in just under a week and have realized that this is a huge help for vanlifers just beginning their build and need a helping hand. Really love seeing more of the older cargo vans getting shown some love. Really like the idea for the transposing of the back portions of the walls. I will have to try that when I redo mine in my Chevy 1500 later this summer.

Looking at the pine T & G I wish I had used some of that in my van. It looks great guys. I used a lot of that T & G when I built a big log cabin in the 1980's. I used secret nailing into the tongues.

Oh dang! That’s rad. Yeah it turned out great and was pretty straight forward gives it a nice warm and cozy wood cabin feel in a van

Nice, but I highly recommend stainless screws versus nails. Nails pop out of anything that’s exposed to expansion / contraction (heat and cold), especially things like vans that vibrate. It was more work, but the cedar in my Skoolie has all pre-drilled and counter sunk screws and still looks awesome.Finish nails might be okay if it’s only holding the item while liquid nails dry, but if it’s not glued, you’re asking for issues.

Yeah we glued it down pretty good with liquid nail. The nails have really lasted the test of time on our van that we live in but it also has liquid nail as well. Our buddy swears by nails and wood glue. But we have screwed the t&g on a few times and it does look pretty sharp. Thanks for this. Also good to know on the expanding and contraction tip. I may just go back to screws.

Nails at 90 degrees along with glue are possible okay for cabinet trim, it’s when they are in the same axis as the pulling force that is becomes an issue. Even with glue the nails can back out. Screws are definitely the gold standard. The construction adhesive is always a great go to. I’ve built a skoolie, doing a pro van build now. Good luck with you builds. Thanks for sharing on KZbin.

No because you really want to fasten the T&G to the framing it gets very bumpy in the van especially a lifted 4x4. Adam is gonna get after it so we put in some 1” nails to keep it on.

It went under it and is held up by it. There’s enough nails and support across the ceiling to hold it in place

At 5:05 she talked about separating the wood to metal. What is the proper way? Are you referring to thermal bridging? Do you stick a piece of foam behind siding before screwing into metal. Whats the proper procedure? Thanks!

Yeah basically you are attaching the wood to the metal but that reflectix layer separates the wood from attaching directly to the metal. Thanks for watching!

Depends on what type of batteries/electrical systems you use. This set up was probably around 5000. The power system will be your biggest hit.

It varies. This was probably around 1,500 walls, flooring, ceiling, it’s a small van. 3M thinsualte will be the most expensive material in this process.

What size cedar tounge and groove do you guys normally use and would you frame it the same using cedar ??

Cedar would work. We've used most types of tounge and groove it all will work in the van the thinner stuff is easier to deal with.
