Anyway to do this in session view? None of my bands backing tracks/clicks, etc. are in arrangement view - we do everything in session view

Hey man, I believe it can be done but I do not have experience with this approach. I just find arrangement view to be much easier to make changes to on the fly and gives me overall more control for backing tracks. I imagine loading a clip with the same setting into Session view should give the same results.

hi Gabriel I´m trying this way to control my fractal with Ableton but once the scene changed to the scene I have chosen, it returns to scene number one. no matter which scene I had chosen. hope u can help me with it :)

bro this information is gold. I have a question.. my ableton live is not showing in the midi preferences / midi port my fractal fm3. what i need to do in this case. ??? thanks

So glad it was useful for you! Unfortunately, the FM3 does not have MIDI over USB. However, you can pick up a MIDI to USB interface to get the same result. Check out the “Roland UM-ONE mk2 USB MIDI Interface”, it’s around $40. Probably some cheaper ones out there as well. Let me know how this works out!

Hey whats up man! So you’ll need to use a 5 pin MIDI cable from the MIDI OUT port on the FM9 going into a MIDI IN port of your interface. This will allow you to use the FM9 as a MIDI controller for whatever you need within Ableton. I imagine you can “MIDI learn” each switch to whatever parameter you want. This MAY also be possible with just a USB cable, but the FM9 would be sending the MIDI and not receiving it so you’ll have to set that up accordingly within Ableton.

I wouldn’t think of it this way. I would just set the tempo for the song, then change the subdivision (1/2 note, 1/4 note, 8th note etc.) on a scene by scene basis. Hope this helps!

that is rally cool but, how can i change any preset or scene in fractal fm9 launching scenes from push 2 in session view instead of arrange view? i am pretty sure that is possible after seeing this awesome video ... please help me whit that

Hey what’s up man! Thanks for watching. It should be basically an identical process in terms of creating a clip within session view, but how it actually triggers the preset/scene is what I’m not sure of. Since this approach kind of relies on a linear timeline, it’s hard to say. Edit: I missed the part where you’re using a Push. Then absolutely, create a clip within session view, do all of the same steps I laid out and the Push should trigger the preset/scene.
