Land early, hit the Blue Lagoon, coffee, Red Bull then stay on your North American clock for sleep. Iceland in summer barely gets dark and so many trails and access points are open 24hrs. We just did this, skipped the crowds and busy roads and LOVED it!

i always drink the tomato juice on planes. I don't normally like tomato juice and never drink it any other time. For some reason it tastes good while flying, plus it's packed with nutrients and hydrating.

We arrived at 6am. I preplanned areas to explore south of the airport for a couple of hours before heading in to Reykjavik. It's the landscape you see from the aeroplane, really unique, easy to find parking areas to stop for little walks, good brisk winds to wake you up, really quiet and a nice slow pace when you are not feeling the best. Empty roads gave us time to get used to driving on the opposite side. It also gave us a sense of familiarity when we drove there later in the dark to search for the northern lights. Buy a shockingly expensive meal at the airport cafe to keep you awake! They have delicious food.

+1 tip. Adjust your clock to the destination and sleep according to it from 2 days prior to the journey.

Great advice! We lived as expats when our kids were very young so the 30 hr trip home was interesting (plus 9 hr time zone to adjust to). First, change your watch to the new time zone so you register what time it is there. Absolutely agree with light meal before boarding, start relaxing with music or book in a headset to lull outside noise, sleep as much as possible until 2hr before landing (wanted to use the restroom before the line formed). Once you land you must keep moving out in the daylight - we often take public transport from the airport as we are not likely to fall asleep. Drop bags at the hotel, a change of clothes and clean up to face the day. Keep going until at least 8 pm at the new time and then crash. We are heading to Amsterdam to play a bit and the cruising to lovely Iceland.

So much great info on your channel. I'm going to Iceland in a couple of weeks, and this channel is helping me a lot. My flight leaves Montreal at 11 at night, and I was just planning on taking Nyquil before take off so I can sleep on the way. My brother travels all over the world and that's what he suggested. I agree though, that hydration is important on a flight; those pressurized cabins are dry af.

Get up at 5-6am US time, Take a flight from Boston in daytime. Lands at 10pm. Go to sleep at Iceland time 2am, which is about 9pm eastern us time. Get up at 9 or 10am Iceland time. Easy and no jet lag

I’ll be traveling to Iceland next summer. I’m excited, but kinda dreading this flight over. This will be my first overnight, overseas trip, and I don’t have a lot of confidence in my ability to sleep on a plane. I did upgrade to a roomier seat on the plane and will look to go to bed earlier in the days leading up to the trip, to hopefully minimize jet lag. Maybe we’ll cross paths at some point next year? :)

Melatonin and Emergen-C are my usual supplements. Thanks for the Vitamin D tip. Will do. We always nap for a couple hours, but perhaps this time (arriving August 14) we'll try to push through. Maybe that first afternoon would be the best time to get my tattoo done.

I’m traveling with long haul flights two to three times a year. My tips of avoiding jetlag are similar to yours: get refresh before flights, no alcohol and caffeine before or during flights, use ear plugs and dress comfortably. I have back pain issue so I always wear my compression socks on flights also, socks are also helpful is you have to walk a lot during the trip. Once arrived at destination, just follow the Sun...if you arrive in the morning and feel really sleepy, take a shower before a 30 min. nap then wake up and have a cup of coffee.

Jeannie, if I have snacks (such as nuts and dried fruit) in my luggage, will I be able to enter Iceland with it? I know that some countries (looking at you, Australia) are very restrictive about bringing food products.
