Hello Mr. Nick. A very nice and effective video, But I have a problem. I want to avoid freezing up in a fight, however, because I am not healthy enough, I do not have the permission to go for martial arts. Is there another way to start training to not to freezing up? I am waiting for your response.

I have no problem in fighting the heavy bag. My shots are strong and got correct form. But when I confront somebody my hands start to weaken and my voice drops.

You need to do some scenario . training, have some guys come at you.

normal response to adrenaline - you feel weak, shaky, heightened - fear and confusion - brain shuts down, can't think. exposure to this repeatedly will numb you to it but there's the rub, got to put yourself into those confrontational situations, e.g. sparring, to do that. Other options are, to understand how you will be effected but have a strong strategic response prepared, e.g., de-escalation, fence etc. To some extent, the pre-fight escalation pantomime that aggressors use can help you to access aggression also. The inertia of not responding proactively increases the sense of fear/freeze, when you start to actively employ the fence and de-escalation, you feel more in control of your situation. If violence follows, you're more prepared to evoke your strategy because you're already moving, blading, talking, protecting your reactionary gap, the flinch response followed by a good short elbow isn't such a leap then.

I literally start fucking shaking and I can't walk properly and my arms and legs go stiff, I'm a kickboxer and idk why this happens. Even if a 13 yo guy would come at me I just fucking start to panic even tho I know I can beat them up. It doesn't happen when I spar on my kickboxing training but idk why this always happens to me. Also if I'm drunk it never happens

@@Kristian01233 bro i feel exactly the same. I am a fighter to, sparring no problem can tale hits and can also hit hard. But in the streets if someone threatens me i feel weak even if i could beat them up easily. I think it is some form of anxiety we have to overcome be just saying fuck it and go in, i think thats where muscle memory gets in. Also when i am drunk or else i do not have that. I am completely calm then and ready to knock someone put if o have to.

there are moments when we might chicken out and get afraid of an opponent who is just taller and having a sharp voice when shouting, this doesn't make him stronger, by the way. The key is building self-confidence by preparation and training. Mr Drossos, I want to thank you for your generosity and having to share with us your precious knowledge and experience.

That happened to me alot. Its the worse feeling ever. All my years of training goes out the window & some delusional untrained chump who never trained in his life, starts beating you because hes stupid to be afraid & I'm just trying to over come the fucking shock & freeze response 😆...the more you put yourself in these situations & dont care you get better at it.

This works 100% of the time! The reality is, you jist have to say "fuck it and MAKE yourself fight with all you are worth. Fuck it, I'm gonna get hit, it's gonna hurt and the only way to reduce the damage is to hit the other person as many times as you can. Focus on what you will be doing, not what the other person may do to you. If you can't reach that "fuck it" moment and force yourself to throw that firat punch, knowing you're going to keep punching, kicking, biting, eye gouging, you're definitely going to freeze up and turtle. Talk yourself into it. Push thoughts of getting hit out of your mind, force yourself to refocus on that "fuck it" thought and jump into action before you talk yourself out of it. Its the same mind set you get before doung anything youre afraid of doing. Jumping off of the high dive platform or the cliff into the water, going on the roller coaster when you're afraid of heights, it's the same mindset that you have used in the past to force yourself into doing whatever you were afraid to do but did it anyways. Don't over think it. Don't allow yourself to talk about what you're afraid will happen. Just KNOW, you're about to throw a bunch of punches and visualize how and where you're about to throw that first strike and how you will follow up with more. Everyone has the power to control their thoughts. Don't allow your mind to go there when doubt tries to creep in and you 100% will be able to fight without freezing up!

This is all good advice. The urban combatives channel do aggression therapy where they simulate someone approaching you agresively. And you have to maintain your fence and you attempts at de escalation.

Great video as always, would you be able to teach self-defense techniques for effective enough for middle and/or high school students, but are not lethal? Nowadays, when students get into fights at school, both kids/parties involved are punished. To prevent the situation from escalating to court, I'm just curious what you would teach pre-teens and teens. Thanks.

watched until the point u said i know the solution to defending against knife, knife defense is run or get stabed, even the most trained guy. WILL get stabed 99% of the time. the illusion that you are so well trained that you will be able to do something while also avoiding getting stabbed by a adrenalized mean dude that have a real intention to stab you is ridiculous. u got 4 chances, run, improvise and find a longer weapon and use reach to your advantage, a gun, or count on the 1% of success doing some bullshido move.
