NOTE TO FORUM: This clip is only the result of a question from a subscriber. I have a complete knife fighting system that cuts to the chase of what real knife assaults look like and what you need to expect if you are training well to avoid being stabbed or critically wounded.

As both a Filipino American and a current FMA practitioner, I will have to admit that this is a hundred percent correct. Usually, AT MOST, the best things you may possibly learn is angles, reflexes, and dexterity. If we were to really be honest, 99.5% of FMA taught out there is pretty much padwork with sticks and kknives. Well how bout those fancy entries that show "The stick can translate into knife into knife and empty hand." Again, not always what it's cracked up to be. Sayf mentioned many times the whole "leaving the arm there for a minute to dance around". If you happen to be some who just can't live without entries, the fact of the matter is: there are better arts for that itch. Wing Chun and JKD get you straight to your important targets faster - and I'm not saying those arts are the end all, be all, either. I salute Sayf for spitting truth, because the FMA can sometimes be as big or bigger of a marketing machine as BJJ

@ainako255: Thanks dude! BTW, I think FMA has much to offer. I personally got much use from Panatukan and how it flowed into Bareknuckle boxing.

@ainako255: In all fairness, Wing Chun and JKD have their issues also lol. Most WC is not functional and JKD is more like kick boxing if the right one is not teaching it. Thank you for being so open minded.

Excellent video, I always had the same criticism of all major defense systems, they are based on single strike attacks when virtually all knife attacks are frenzied type attacks with multiple stabbing actions. This is the best knife self defense on the internet I've seen since the 1940s marines one, as it basically is the same concept, block the attack on the forearm of attacker but behind the blade, close the distance and manipulate their wrist until you can disarm them.

Thanks, Brother. It's the principles and I trust your authenticity. Doc said attack the attacker. You redirecting and using his thrusts against him. I trust what you just demonstrated

@SunMagnetic: Please, try to avoid ALL encounters if you can. If you cannot, have something worth living for. That is a MUST when defending yourself.

great video. if i may ask, after sweeping his knife arm away from your centerline, is it reasonable to get into a muay Thai clinch from the side and start throwing knees?

I remember you talking about knife defense years ago. I think the most important thing I took from your view was that you have to accept the reality of more than likely you are gonna get stabbed. But the point is to reduce the damage.

Thank you for the demonstrations and teachings. Can i ask you what do you think about trapping the knife with an improvised piece of fabric and then applying a submission hold to take the attacker out or make him to release the weapon? In hema it is the original cloak and dagger style except you also have a hidden dagger

a technique like that is fine motor. Not likely to work when the chaos starts.

Hey coach, when your transitioning from your left arm(block) to your right arm, during the passing phase, of the knife, would it be feasible to also bring in (pull back) your lead leg simultaneously as well, just as a security measure? Or is it not necessary.
@TheUmmahFightCamp
@TheUmmahFightCamp Жыл бұрын
@shaun4889: It would not hurt, but it is one more thing that you have to be concerned with while someone is trying to run you through. I think the downward passing of the knife across the body is enough. Great comment! That leg does look like it can be gotten! lOL

I've.seen where the forearm is used to control the victim and knife.used in a sewing machine stabbing motion. Also seen people.where they thought they were punched but then noticed they had holes on their chest. A knife attack is personal and nasty. Great video.

Yes! In fact, my brother was stabbed several times while in the armed forces and he thought he was being punched! Great observation!

Coach….that would have been perfectly acceptable at the place where I learned Krav Maga. The idea was when you’re fighting for your life there are no rules. When you did the first block when the student kinda gives you a hook punch stab on the outside was to block and at the same time ideally throw a punch/palm heel/mush him in the face etc. but if that wasn’t possible then it isn’t possible and you defended the second thrusting attack. They even tell the class; you’re probably going to get cut, but it’s better to get a cut on your hand or finger than your neck. And defending against a knife when you have no other choice.

How well does this hold up in a real life scenario? Especially since the margin of error is so low (just one slash could end you) and as with street fights/assaults movements are much quicker and awkward.

I hope you NEVER have to find out! My point is that you need to keep the knife OUTSIDE of your center.

I would have to agree. A knife attack is a scary proposition in my humble opinion. My best guess would be to hurt him (eyes or throat) ASAP to distract him long enough get control of the weapon hand and break at lest one joint (easier said than done). Perhaps breaking the collar bone of the knife hand would be "better" if you could manage it (would end the fight). Then again, if you can get control of the weapon hand, might want to kick out his knee and work in a few kicks or stomps to the ribs and head before disarming him (again, easier said than done). Bottom line is.....I think you're most likely gonna get cut anyway, and if you want to avoid serious injury or death....you're gonna have to badly hurt him to get the knife or end the attack. I never want to face any of that. Pray tell, how did you survive yours? Great video

I think that’s why I agreed with some styles of Kali, the BEST defense is to not be there, the second best is to have a bigger knife/longer reach.
