It’s interesting because the whole casual look is mostly popular in America but places like Paris, Korea and Italy dress nicely and very put together.

Yes, and to think that since the 1970s the U.S. uniform/"iconic" outfit has been the blue jeans and a white T-shirt..I mean, really, people? That's not bad, it's minimalist and versatile, but is it really the best we can do as casual dressing? I'm not saying we all have to be as committed as Dita von Teese, but come on now.

For ladies in school (middle, high, and college): You could go for the "jeans and a nice top" look then add a layering piece like a cute sweater or cardigan then add some cute shoes (such as neutral colored tennis shoes, pointy toe flats, cute oxfords, etc) this has been my look for years while in school and it has never failed me- it's so classic :)

I have found some great dresses on Amazon for $30 or $40. They have a great and easy return policy so you can try it on at home and then send it back if it's not just right for you. Only keep what is perfect. Lark and Ro has done great dresses on Amazon that are great fit and flattering on a budget.

Have you tried Chicwish and Shein? Chicwish is a little more expensive, but they have sales! With Shein I am just extremely careful and always look at the fabric/material of the clothes I'd be buying. I actually shop by material, not style, color, etc. Because I know that if it's not good material (pure, 100% cotton, for example), it's not going to last me and it's likely to not be good for my skin (polyester, and cheap poly blends, I'm looking at you). And of course, thrift stores, thrift stores, thrift stores.. especially those in affluent areas where people give away designer or vintage clothing because of minimal flaws (a present they didn't like, in a color/material they didn't like, etc).

If you live by a Dillard’s Clearance Center - they have amazing finds if you have time to hunt. Thrift stores and consignment stores are also good. These you will need time to hunt, but it is also fun. Fashion doesn’t have to cost a lot. I never buy full price. Clearance racks are also amazing. I buy winter stuff in the beginning of summer - cheap deals!

Dropping a fork at a restaurant is nothing to worry about. There’s an etiquette rule for that, and it’s that you should never pick it up from the floor; instead you should call the waiter, tell what happened and ask politely for another fork. The waiter will pick it up.

NotYourTypicalMidwife hi there!! I’m a college student loving Mrs. Midwest’s channel and trying to improve my overall image and just be more ladylike. Now although I understand there’s all these rules for proper etiquette I simply disagree with making a waiter do something I can easily do myself. I love helping servers out and being polite to everyone and for example in the grocery store I hate workers having to bag my stuff, sure if they have nothing else to do but really that’s a task I can easily do on my own. Do you have any thoughts on this? I’m sure you may disagree but is it that bad if you just pick up the fork? I mean it takes two seconds and I’m not sure I would agree with these rules if they simply make it difficult for everyone involved

I'll admit, I try to be as feminine as possible, but I refuse to compromise certain aspects of my fashion for it. I am a Goth and proud of it, which sometimes means that people may consider me "scary" or "threatening." But personally, I *LOVE* this. Why? Because when people *ASSUME* that how you dress dictates your personality, it *REALLY* catches them off guard when you are sweet and friendly and 100% opposite of the stereotype. Although I do *ADORE* my spiked platform boots and riveted trenchcoats, many Gothic pieces are very feminine in nature and I do mix in a fair amount of those with the spikes and the chains. ♥ Even though I'm not going to do much with the information given here, I love your videos and think that everything you mentioned here was valid. Sending you little black hearts and happy bats ♥ ~Phantom

Funny you say that, there was this girl in my college class her wardrobe was all black but her poise, speech, her style was soooooo nice that she made it work. She would use platform shoes and earrings but she always look put together. And you know what's funny? I'm more in the colorful side and we'd sit next to each other in class and upfront so it was always a ying-yang moment in class.

@TheMagicCrafter
@TheMagicCrafter 5 жыл бұрын
OH!!! And doll, I will say this... having spiky outfits can give a spiky message, but as with everything in life... what matters is how you carry yourself. For example, when I wear my spikes, leather, chains and spiderwebs, I *ALWAYS* do so with a smile. Not just because I am happiest when dressed this way, but also because I am very aware that how I look can come across as "evil," "wicked," or "threatening." I have had *SO* many wonderful conversations with people and have made great friends with "normies" via my fashion... because sometimes people come up to you to say something rude, and when you turn it around and act very friendly, it opens up room for conversation. Obviously this isn't always the case, but I find that it is more often than not. I'm not a expert in being feminine as you are, but I will say that it is possible to be feminine and pleasant even when dressed in the darkest and spookiest fashion. If you ever want to collab on video covering how to carry yourself like a lady in public for Alternative Fashion gals, I think we could have some fun together! 😂

Love this comment. I feel like different people have different perceptions of what being/acting like/dressing like a lady means, and each one of us should try our best to honor 'our' perception rather than buying into someone else's perception of what being a lady entails. A lot of people 'subconsciously' do certain things because it gets them a stamp of approval from those around. My point is, we shouldn't be scared of facing disapproval. We should try our best to live in alignment with our authentic selves :)

chilloften yeah I found her because her video about bangs was recommended to me, and I of course ended up finding her Kibbe videos and now I’m hooked! Fashion makes so makes so much more sense now. It made me understand why sometimes dressing up like a minimalist made me look completely boring or why too much overt femininity makes me look like I’m playing dress up. I’m a soft gamine, and finding out what lines work for me allowed me to finally dress how I want to dress and be perceived how I want to in a way that actually looks good on me. Mrs Midwest I’m almost sure is a soft dramatic, and it’s amazing how she seems to already gravitate towards what looks good for her type. I suppose we all do to some degree, but it really changes everything when you understand why something works instead of just knowing it does. There’s some other channels that also talk about Kibbe, but Aly I think is one of the women who explains it best. And she has a lovely personality too, which helps :)

One of my favorite ways to dress is feminine with a bit of edge. There are many ways to combine styles to match your personality. If I dressed overly feminine and frilly, I wouldn't look authentic. But if I dress too edgy, it's easy to appear stand offish. To help my style match my personality, I like to pair edgy jewelry with feminine silhouettes. If I feel like wearing all black or even more edgy silhouettes, I pair it with colorful, more feminine accessories. It's an easy way to find balance with my style!

Knowing your style personality is key. Large ruffles and lots of lace look frumpy on me. The garment wears me verses me wearing the garment. On the other spectrum, I look childish with tiny details such as pin tucks and small prints like calico or tiny ginham checks. What I look best in is a true classic style solids, tweeds, herringbone, balanced symmetrical prints not too tiny and not too large. Clean lines. Also modern minimalistic styles look very chic on me. Think Audrey Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn,1940's 50's style. That's me. However, what looks classy, sophisticated and feminine on me for instance, would look boring on Mrs. Midwest, who is more of what is called a 'romantic' personality style. More Marilyn Monroe or Mae West. I can combine some 'town and country' elements when I want certain casual or flirty dressy feel. Knowing your 'style personality' and combing with everything Mrs. Midwest says here is a winning formula for a positive feminine presence. 💞

She’s so Lucky Thank you! And I’m also a sucker for well dressed children. I do find that people seem so happy and surprised by my kids appearance and manners. My kids say please and thank you and shake hands and always say “have a nice day” when they are done interacting with someone. I’m told all the time “you are doing a great job” strangers just walk up to me and say it out of the blue. I think society is starved for it to be honest. I always tell people I wanted 10 kids and feel bad I stopped at 4 and I ask if they have kids or just say “wait till you have kids, it’s the best” I try to acknowledge that I see what I do as different, that raising kids doesn’t have to be the way it’s currently seen. I have an Instagram account called @raisingtradkids I post their outfits and book recommendations and things we do with our kids that are pretty much the things Mrs Midwest says. I can see my children developing self respect. They don’t have a huge wardrobe and we don’t emphasis things over experiences and I think that’s the difference between raising vain and self important kids vs kids with manners and good self respect ❤️

I have spent years dressing really casual/with a masculine/dark edge, and for me I was dealing with a lot of emotional issues - I didn't care or respect myself enough to take care of myself, but also I didn't think I deserved to look nice or feel good. It gave me anxiety to feel noticed so I wore baggy clothes, mens shirts, just tied my hair back etc. Any time I attended a party I'd be a tiny step more casual than everyone else so I wouldn't be noticed because I couldn't handle feeling vulnerable. So I can't speak for everyone, but you're spot on from my perspective. Since Christmas I've been massively working on myself, and I'm to the point now where I'm starting to re-vamp my style, I'm trying to figure out my colours/my more feminine look :)

Marissa Anderson thank you for your very personal response. I hope you’re feeling better with every step you take! It is not easy... but I wish you all the courage and hope you need!! For my part: I always used to adapt clothing/style-wise to my peers, even as adult. I just wanted to fit in. During my depression I kinda broke out and wore whatever 😅 Now that I am better and also not in my old environment anymore I’m trying to figure out who I want to be.

She's right. The feminine factor plays a huge part in attraction; the right type of attraction.For example, over 4th of July saw this great looking guy and guess who he's with? A girl wearing a beautiful sundress. She wasn't the most beautiful and was a little I won't say fat--pleasantly full figure-but she was with I must admit a very attractive guy. Hate these new jeans with holes in them and refuse to buy them.

I think the biggest key to most of these steps is to choose your outfits in advance. Before I worked from home, I would look at the weather forecast for the week and put my outfits together for work. This helped me to choose outfits that were appropriate in the event I had somewhere to go after work as well. It also helped me to pay attention to how often I wore each piece of clothing so that I was making full use of my wardrobe. When you're running late for work or an event, you tend to fall back on pieces you have worn time and time again.

Absolutely love this, what an awesome and original idea! I would love to see a video going in deeper to this topic from practical generality to specifics. Discussing current fashion trends that we may slip into that take away from femininity would be incredibly helpful to those of us who find it easy to fall into just going along with trends because its what everyone else is doing and not noticing negative aspects that more experienced and fashionable women do. (unflattering, off putting, masculine, trashy, etc.) Thank you for putting your time and work in for us, you’ve changed my perspective on everything women! You’re helping women come home to their true nature in such a graceful and humble way. xoxo 💕💐

I'm starting basically from scratch. Everything about me is casual and unladylike, but I want to change and be more mature and put together for my age. I have two kids and it's difficult sometimes, but I know if I can put in some effort that it'll be worth it. I don't have any ladylike clothes, basically no jewelry, cheap bare bones makeup that I rarely use, and not a single clue what to do with my hair. I'm 35 and looking up basic makeup and hair tutorials. It's a shame, but I'm trying! I'm so glad I found your channel!

Hi Cait! Adore your channel. This is a little random, but would you be able to do a video on dressing femininely in cold weather? I know your background is also Canadian, so maybe you can empathize, but I tend toward the same enormous fleece-lined flannels when it gets icey, and would really love to get to wear something that shows a bit more polished and tact. They're becoming pieces that are sort of giving me grief, even just hanging in my closet in anticipation for the winter.

Elise Dobrzynski hi, i'm in high school as well and i think i dress quite ladylike :) stores like gap, h&m, and even the thrift store have some very pretty yet affordable pieces if you know what you're looking for. extremely formal wear tends to age you, so go for clean, well fitted, more casual versons of the typical mature styles :)

It was so easy to be feminine before kids, I struggling with this but thanks for this video I can remind myself some tips, I would like on maybe where to shop feminine house clothes, I have some some sun dreses I wear at home but sometimes a plain shirt and yoga pants are my go to to sleep at night and, I need more girly casual shirts to go with my yoga pants. Let me know which are your girly casual pieces :) when I go out though I always leave the house super feminine.

You might like looking into the Kibbe system of how to dress, he bases it on a balance of yin/yang, and once you learn it you can really learn how to play with the "rules" and what will help make you look more "yin" or feminine. Could you share what kinds of brands you shop for your clothing? I have a very similar shape to you, with sizes accommodating certain parts of me needing to be about 3 sizes bigger than other parts. This of course is a major struggle, because I either then look frumpy or too tight!! I've found a couple of brands that work for me, but they are of course quite expensive, and you seem to have found some things I haven't seen before.
