I’m 71..... it’s genetic but I can pass for 51 and keeping in shape, nice hair, “less is more” makeup and I can almost get away with anything..... however LOOK AT PICS of oneself now and then and if you are honest with yourself - you will cringe at how badly you look sometimes!!!! Self included!!!! I travel a lot and simple classy (even jeans with holes) can look great with classic pumps, etc! Just wearing “what you want” does NOT do much for your self image if it makes other cringe! I like being admired for the way I dress.... not laughed at Just my HUmble Opinion!!!!

I will turn 54 this year and I have no problem wearing what is in style. I do see lots of women my age and a little older who got stuck in the 90s and it does age a person so bad. I won't wear a crop top, mini skirt, or very short shorts but if I really like a style I will try to add it in somewhere. No one ever mentions this but I think staying fit is another way to staying style, or age gracefully 💜💜💜

I wear a lot less make up now that I'm in my late 50's. I wear foundation medium coverage and dewey, but only very neutral/natural shadow only to cover light veins on my lids, a sweep of blush....a tiny bit of highlight on cupids and here and there. I've always dressed a bit bohemian/hippy even as a teen. Yet, I mix it up and have a lot of classic timeless pieces as well as a few age appropriate on trend items which are not at all hippy or bohemian. Shorts are always to just above my knee. I think maxi dresses look lovely on those that are over 5'8" or taller. I agree regarding not pigeon holing ourselves! Your video was appreciated and I enjoyed it!

Fashion is aspirational. Take the details that work for you, your personality, and your body type and incorporate them into a style that’s uniquely yours. I’m only 4”11’ and I don’t expect to see women my size represented in fashion photos - that’s OK. I can still take ideas and fly with them.

I whish the title of this video was: How to look modern at any age, because the only thing that really ages us is time and there is nothing wrong with that. The most precious thing we get with age is that we can finally stop obsessing about our looks, stop trying to look younger (or not looking older), relax about who we really are, feel comfortable in our body (and our clothes) and concentrate to other important things in our lives.

My advice: Taking care of your body (try to stay fit and lean) and hair (regular visits to the hairdresser, not getting stuck in an old style and trying to take care of the hair and also continue to style it at home) as well as good skin care are important. Also avoid using too much makeup but I do recommend to continue to make an effort to look your best by using at least some makeup products (e.g. lightly fill in eyebrows to frame the face, use some mascara, some local covering of strong pigmentation or scars and a little blush).

I don't like leaving negative comments, but I feel the examples shown are now any styles I would want to copy, and some are a little ridiculous in my opinion. I’m 53 and I’m having so much fun with fashion again. It’s a perfect way for me to express myself. I definitely don’t want to wear anything that’s going to age me but that’s just my opinion, at the end of the day I wear what makes me feel good. How I dress really depends on my mood when I wake up and the weather. Taking care of myself and looking good makes me feel great even when I feel like crap at times. Great video, I loved it! Good advice about the fanny packs. Dressing can be challenging for me because of a bulge on my side that I developed after my liver resection. I came up with the idea of wearing lots of different fanny packs to hide it. It gets very challenging with anything that’s fitted and that shows my waistline. I’m passionate about fashion so much and I’m always having to come up with ideas to conceal my arm and bulges from surgeries. Fashion is a great way to express yourselves ladies, have fun with it. Sending positive vibes to all the woman around the world. Remember, we are all beautiful!!! 🙌🏽✌🏼☝️🙏🏿💕

Very good video. I'm 57 finding a lot of joy in styling ideas and I am not limiting myself to what those around me feel is age appropriate. So as long as I feel comfortable and feel stylish in what adorn my body. I don't want to hear other opinion because a lot of us 50+ have worked hard to stay fit and if you decide you want to wear a bikini do it. Happy Birthday! You look fantastic! I will be 65 this summer, and though I look older, I am pretty sure I've never looked better! Super helpful color tip I learned somewhere online: take a color you are considering, and with pulled back hair and minimal makeup, drape your face. Close your eyes for a few seconds and open them and look at your face in the drape. If you see/notice your face FIRST, the color is good. If you see the COLOR FIRST, then it's going to steal your thunder! So much easier and cheaper than all the color consults! And you can do it in real time, while shopping. I see you follow the Accidental Icon, but who else do you follow? Fashionistas "of a certain age"? Cheers!

I am 37 years old but I look better in the more classy styles designed for mid twenties to late twenties. Probably because I look a lot younger then I am because of great skin and short height. I couldn't believe it when some guy said women over thirty are over the hill and should cover up from the knees to the collarbone. He was shocked when he found out my age. He thought I was 25 ha ha. Explains why a younger guy was hitting on me. When it comes down to it age is only a number. Look at a lot of Asian women. They tend age slower then most people because of a combination of genes and good lifestyles.

I didn't understand everything you were saying. The video would've been more helpful if you filmed short clips of before and after of you wearing said styles with your voiceover.

Hi great video and totally agree with all your tips. I know the colour trends can be really off for some. Knowing your best colours to wear is always a plus. It just boils down to caring how we look and not giving up on style as we age. Thanks for sharing! xo

Good tips but wish you would use larger/older models. Hard to tell what something looks like when I am looking at a 20 year old. Also tell us what to wear with a maxi.

Thanks Barbara. Unfortunately, those images are not easy to find and I generally try and get as much variety as I possibly can.

I love love loved this video ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I grew up people watching at Bondi Beach and never followed the fashion trend as such. I learned to walk the beat of my own drum but your video resonated a lot of memories for me with great tips. And you’re 52 😱 you’re looking awesome. Must be the great kiwi gene in you 😃 Thanks for sharing these tips and Thank you June’s Journey for keeping me sane whilst waiting in shopping queues 😁

Here's a tip, don't dye your hair too dark in your 50's, go lighter of it will age you. The dark hair shows up wrinkles

Completely agree!!

Or don’t dye at all. Grey hair can be so chic, if kept in a simple, modern cut. (Or even in a long, wavy, natural style, if that’s your personality) IMO, grey hair exudes confidence.

Yes! And streaks emphasise wrinkles a lot. Its like stripes and stripes. All I see is stripes. And wrinkles look like stripes. Having said that, my own hair has greyed into its own streaks!!! Shrugs... ; )

Ahhhh thank you for the extra perk of confidence. I love the video and on most cases I pretty much already follow what you spoke on. Furthermore, II must say I must find some of those jewelry accessories shown in the video, love them. My issue when shopping is I look about 15yrs younger than my real age and I do have a hard time finding clothing so I spend most times mix/matching outfits without going overboard. However it's a job due to many women sections the clothes look like my mothers though my age supposed to suit that area, I don't get why it can't be easier finding clothing for women later in life without it breaking your purse. Again loved the video.

True 💕. The best way to stay current and up-to-date is to change wardrobe to suit current trends (but not too trendy). I’m same age as u and I love to mix-up my wardrobe. I actually look much younger than my years so I can get away with many styles 🤗.

Great tips! I'm almost 71 and have always been interested in fashion since I studied it at a fashion/art school in NYC and was a fashion illustrator there in the late 1960s/70s! You're right about accessories and nothing looks worst than old worn belts, purses and shoes so those should be replaced when need be. I hate sneakers with skirts and dresses though and think one should wear more appropriate shoes for those. While I was raising my three daughters in the 80s I wouldn't let them wear their sneakers with dresses/party dresses and made sure they had black patent leather Mary Janes with white tights. I was lucky I could pass down many of their clothing from daughter to daughter which saved a lot of money though they had some new fashions as well. Thanks for sharing tips...love your videos!

Thank you for the informative video. What do you think about the saying, "If you were old enough to wear it the first time, you're too old to wear it again" - when it comes to fashion ? Did CoCo Chanel say that? I'm 52 also, and like you I don't want to dress like my 28 year old daughter, but I also don't want to dress like my 81 year old mom either. It's hard , its like walking a tightrope in some regard.

That game looks a lot like Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. She wears fabulous clothes in the series. I stopped wearing black a very long time ago because it definitely made me look tired and emphasized wrinkles. I wear navy as my wardrobe go-to and it is so flattering. Great advice about color trends---I never bought into the blush pink trend because the color didn't work on me. You really have to know your colors and style by the time you reach a certain age.
