Seriously, it's pretty crazy. I've been following the training conceptually (haven't yet bought the ebook, but given how it is going I'll definitely get it). I'm a capoeira practitioner of around 8 years. There's always some people that just "get" moves, and I've always wondered why, and your explanation really nails it. They usually grew up running around playing soccer or something. I've started training Chen style Tai Chi due to your work, not just for the hyperarch but also the whole cultural package. Your concepts have really let me do the silk-reeling drills properly, and "feel" how they are done. I've mainly been doing them to activate the hyperarch, as well as some of the exercises in your videos. I've also been training a lot of capoiera, walking everywhere and thinking about connecting the glutes, fascial tension in the feet... and I can say, the results after a month are very noticeable and you can feel it. A few things: 1. When punching and kicking (on a heavy bag), I can feel my punches retracting and extending faster. I actually hurt my foot because I was surprised how FAST the right leg from the rotation came back when I low kicked the bag, and I just rode with it. That made the foot hit the bag at at weird angle and it hurt for a few days. 2. The feeling up the glutes really had a major jump in the last week after I started to feel more. Whereas a few days ago, I could feel just a tiny bit, today I can feel it significantly, I can feel it up my lower back now.. and it feels like.. armor. Honestly, like a sort of internal structure/armor. Because of this I stand now in the correct posture - automatically! This really blew my mind on the internal arts. 3. My feet start to SWEAT. My capoeira academy has a fairly slippery floor and I used to only have trouble when I do handstands, but now my feet keeps sweating and I am slipping after 15 minutes of training! 4. My handstands are more stable. I think it is because I've developed more sensitivity to the fascia so I can "stack" my body up easier? 5. I seem to be less tired and can go on for longer. It feels like the structure is "supporting" you as you move. I feel I am progressing really fast, but I have been exploring my glutes, lower back and flexibility issues (it seems to me that if you glutes are sleepy you can't really progress in hamstring flexibility) with PAILS, RAILS and all those, but it always felt TOO hard, like I achieved more range in the joints but it felt forced, and while there were results, it wasn't really that significant. I also think that as someone that practices an acrobatic art I already have a certain amount of sensitivity in my body. I actually think that Capoeira is a very fascia-based art. When we swing side to side in the ginga (the swaying base of capoeira), we create fascial tension in the ankle and "bounce" back (I've been focusing on engaging the glutes as I do it!). Since we are always moving and swaying, we need to manipulate momentum very well and use our body like a spring, my theory is that you NEED to feel the fascia connection more or less to make the movements smooth and fast. So far the modest awareness has already helped with my movements and I look forward to seeing how the hyperarch will affect my movement.

Very good observation, there is not a sport that does not rely on fascia. You will be the 1% who see this.

@@gongfutaijimy thanks for sharing. I am curious about capoeira, what is it exactly? Is it like brazillian breakdance where you move to different angles in order to strike/kick your opponent? I think Michael Perreira used it in his recent fight

@@paulocosta2859 Capoeira is a game. It's roots come from Africans that were captured as slaves to Brazil. These slaves came from different tribes, and they were treated like animals and all put together to do the work. In African tribes many tribes have their own version of combat games, each with their own social significance. Some might be to prove your value as a mate, another might be a coming of age ritual, whatever, but when they were captured the context for each game was lost, cause everyone is from different tribes and don't speak the language. This collective cultural heritage evolved into capoeira, which it's values of resistance and survival in a harsh environment, anti-establishment, malicia, etc. In practical terms, you gather in a circle with an orchestra playing music, 2 people go in the circle and play. It's kinda like ballroom dancing where you interact with your opponent with your body, the difference is that in capoeira you can choose to work against your partner as well. So the idea of "betrayal" and trickery is rampant in the game. For example, you can pretend to "flow" into beautiful movements with your opponent and then try to sweep her. It is using your body to converse with another person in a ritualistic setting evolved to heightened the experience by having a group of people watching and provide energy for the players. Honestly it's one of the most fun things you can ever do, IMO.
